- Using longitudinal data which include real estate wealth, financial assets as well as consumer durables, changes in the distribution of wealth in Sweden are related to major changes in asset prices and in incentives to hold various assets in the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s. Our analysis of the mobility of wealth indicates that mobility is higher in Sweden than in the United States, while the analysis of who is gaining and who is loosing shows results similar to those of previous studies.

Behavioral modeling in micro simulation models : a survey

- Micro-simulation is an approach to analyze the impact of economic and social policy on the distribution of target variables, not just on the means. It easily includes the true policy instruments and handles highly nonlinear relations. Most models currently used in policy analysis are static and they do not include behavioral response to policy changes, just their first order effects. There is, however, an increasing demand for dynamic models including behavioral responses. This paper surveys current theory and practice in micro-simulation with an emphasis on behavioral modeling, and discusses issues of model building, data availability, estimation, testing and validation.

Did the tax cuts increase hours of work? : a pre-post analysis of swedish panel data

- Based on longitudinal data covering periods before and after the major Swedish tax reform in 1991 a difference-in-difference approach is used to estimate the effects on hours of work of the cuts in the income tax. The results show that women increased their hours more than men did. If there is an effect for men at all, then primarily young men have adjusted to the new tax incentives.
