  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The EU-VGOS project began in 2018 with the aim of using the VGOS infrastructure in Europe to investigate methods for VGOS data processing. The project is now structured into Working Groups dealing with operations (stations), e-transfer, correlation and post-processing, and analysis. This is a report on the status of the project.

  • Solutions to quasi-relativistic multi-configurative Hartree-Fock equations in quantum chemistry
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Nonlinear Analysis. - : Elsevier BV. - 0362-546X .- 1873-5215. ; 75:1, s. 384-404
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We establish the existence of infinitely many distinct solutions to the multi-configurative Hartree-Fock type equations for N-electron Coulomb systems with quasi-relativistic kinetic energy root-alpha(-2)Delta(xn) + alpha(-4) - alpha(-2) for the nth electron. Finitely many of the solutions are interpreted as excited states of the molecule. Moreover, we prove the existence of a ground state. The results are valid under the hypotheses that the total charge Z(tot) of K nuclei is greater than N - 1 and that Z(tot) is smaller than a critical charge Z(c). The proofs are based on a new application of the Lions-Fang-Ghoussoub critical point approach to nonminimal solutions on a complete analytic Hilbert-Riemann manifold, in combination with density operator techniques. • Collective choice in ants : The role of protein and carbohydrates ratios
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journal of insect physiology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0022-1910 .- 1879-1611. ; 69, s. 19-26
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In a foraging context, social insects make collective decisions from individuals responding to local information. When faced with foods varying in quality, ants are known to be able to select the best food source using pheromone trails. Until now, studies investigating collective decisions have focused on single nutrients, mostly carbohydrates. In the environment, the foods available are a complex mixture and are composed of various nutrients, available in different forms. In this paper, we explore the effect of protein to carbohydrate ratio on ants' ability to detect and choose between foods with different protein characteristics (free amino acids or whole proteins). In a two-choice set up, Argentine ants Linepithema humile were presented with two artificial foods containing either whole protein or amino acids in two different dietary conditions: high protein food or high carbohydrate food. At the collective level, when ants were faced with high carbohydrate foods, they did not show a preference between free amino acids or whole proteins, while a preference for free amino acids emerged when choosing between high protein foods. At the individual level, the probability of feeding was higher for high carbohydrates food and for foods containing free amino acids. Two mathematical models were developed to evaluate the importance of feeding probability in collective food selection. A first model in which a forager deposits pheromone only after feeding, and a second model in which a forager always deposits pheromone, but with greater intensity after feeding. Both models were able to predict free amino acid selection, however the second one was better able to reproduce the experimental results suggesting that modulating trail strength according to feeding probability is likely the mechanism explaining amino acid preference at a collective level in Argentine ants.

  • Analysis of the minimal model for the enthalpy relaxation and recovery in glass transition : application to constant-rate differential scanning calorimetry
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Continuum Mechanics and Thermodynamics. - : Springer. - 0935-1175 .- 1432-0959. ; 33, s. 107-123
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The so-called minimal model is formulated for describing the enthalpy relaxation and recovery in glass transition. The model is based on the Arrhenius law for the enthalpy relaxation, which uses two-dimensional parameters, namely the activation energy and the so-called pre-factor (relaxation time at relatively high temperature). A numerically effective exact analytical solution is obtained for the case of constant-rate differential scanning calorimetry. The developed model is analyzed according to the logic of the model itself without introducing additional simplifying assumptions of thermodynamic nature. For typical range of the model parameters, the resulting differential equation contains a large parameter, which offers an opportunity for the application of asymptotic and approximate techniques. A number of simple approximations have been provided for some thermodynamic quantities of interest.

  • Elliptical adhesive contact under biaxial stretching
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the Royal Society. Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences. - : The Royal Society Publishing. - 1364-5021 .- 1471-2946. ; 476:2233
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Adhesive contact of the Hertzian indenter with an incompressible elastic substrate bi-directionally stretched along the indenter principal planes of curvature is considered in the Johnson-Kendall-Roberts theoretical framework. An approximate model is constructed by examining energy release rate conditions only on the edges of the minor and major axes of the contact ellipse. The effect of weak coupling between fracture modes I and II is introduced using a phenomenological mode-mixity function. This study was motivated by the need to model a passive-adhesive mechanism in cell mechanics on stretchable substrates.

  • Is the roux limb a determinant for meal size after gastric bypass surgery?
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Obesity surgery. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1708-0428 .- 0960-8923. ; 20:10, s. 1408-14
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Roux-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) is an effective weight-reducing procedure but the involved mechanisms of action are obscure. The Roux limb is the intestinal segment that following surgery is the primary recipient for food intake. The aims of the study were to explore the mechanosensory and biomechanical properties of the Roux limb and to make correlations with preferred meal size. Ten patients participated and were examined preoperatively, 6weeks and 1year after RYGBP. Each subject ingested unrestricted amounts of a standardized meal and the weight of the meal was recorded. On another study day, the Roux limb was subjected to gradual distension by the use of an intraluminal balloon. Luminal volume-pressure relationships and thresholds for induction of sensations were monitored. At 6weeks and 1year post surgery, the subjects had reduced their meal sizes by 62% and 41% (medians), respectively, compared to preoperative values. The thresholds for eliciting distension-induced sensations were strongly and negatively correlated to the preferred meal size. Intraluminal pressure during Roux limb distension, both at low and high balloon volumes, correlated negatively to the size of the meal that the patients had chosen to eat. The results suggest that the Roux limb is an important determinant for regulating food intake after Roux-Y bypass bariatric surgery.
