- Researchers from Australia, Malaysia and Sweden form part of DRACON International (DRAma for CONflict management) and share the basic view that drama can be an effective way for adolescents to learn to handle conflicts constructively. The main aims of the DRACON project have been: -to develop research methods in order to map students´ conflicts and strategies for handling conflicts and to study the effects of various drama exercises on individual, class and school levels; -to contribute to the development of a theory of conflict processes in different cultures in order to explain the effects of different types of interference´s in adolescents´ conflicts; -to develop and test integrated drama programmes giving adolescents in the three different cultures the opportunity of handling conflicts in a more constructive way. This book is the result of several years of collaborative teamwork between researchers from Australia, Malaysia and Sweden and aims at providing a starting-point for further development of drama and conflict management in educational settings.

Conodont biostratigraphy and sedimentary history in the upper Tremadoc at Uuga, Cape Pakri, NW Estonia

- The upper Tremadocian boundary beds at Cape Pakri, NW Estonia, consist of an extremely friable glauconitic sandstone, which presents a challenge to detailed biostratigraphy. A combination of sedimentological and biostratigraphical criteria has served to clarify the tempo and mode of the processes that formed the sandstone and explain its relationships to strata immediately below and above it. Apatitic conodont elements, which abound in all these sediments, are particularly well suited to tracing the geological history of the surrounding sediment, since they can be repeatedly included in the sediment, eroded and redeposited, often leaving telltale marks on the elements which are nevertheless identifiable. By separating the indigenous elements from those that had been redeposited, we could place the local upper boundary of the Tremadocian at slightly more than 1 m above the base of the c. 4 m-thick sandy deposit. We showed that the sandstone, where 58-97% of the conodont elements have been redeposited, had been formed during four successive phases of sand deposition. The entire sandstone unit belongs to the Paroistodus proteus Zone. In the sandy and clayey Varanguan beds of the Paltodus deltifer Zone that underlie the sandstone, less than 50% of the conodont elements had been redeposited. The upper part of the section consists of limestone beds belonging to the Oepikodus evae Zone, where the redeposited portion of the conodont elements decreases upwards.

Using Ex Post Data to Estimate the Hurdle Rate of Abatement Investments - An Application to the Swedish Pulp and Paper Industry and Energy Sector

- We propose a method for estimating hurdle rates for firms’ investments in pollution abatement technology, using ex post data. The method is based on a structural option value model where the future price of polluting fuel is the major source of uncertainty facing the firm. The econometric procedure is illustrated using a panel of firms from the Swedish pulp and paper industry, and the energy and heating sector from 2000 to 2003. The results indicate a hurdle rate of investment of almost 3 in the pulp and paper industry and almost 4 in the energy and heating sector.

- A novel cryogenic electrostatic storage device consisting of two ion-beam storage rings with a common straight section for studies of interactions between oppositely charged ions at low and well-defined relative velocities is under construction at Stockholm University. Here we consider the prospect of using this new tool to measure cross-sections and rate coefficients for mutual neutralization reactions of importance in interstellar ion chemistry in general and specifically in cosmic pre-biotic ion chemistry.
