Effects of Stimulus Duration and Type on Perception of Female and Male Speaker Age

Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
- Our abilitiy to estimate speaker age was investigated with respect to stimulus duration and type as well as speaker gender in four listening tests with the same 24 speakers, but with four different types of stimuli (ten and three seconds of spontaneous speech, one isolated word and six concatenated isolated words). Results showed that the listeners' judgements were about twice as accurate as chance, and that stimulus duration and type affected the judgements. Moreover, stimulus duration affected the listeners’ judgments of female speakers somewhat more, while stimulus type affected the judgments of male speakers more, indicating that listeners may use different strategies when judging female and male speaker age.

Facilitating and inhibiting factors in change processes based on the lean tool ‘value stream mapping’: an exploratory case study at hospital wards

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- “Lean production” has become a prevalent rationalization methodology in healthcare. Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a commonly used Lean tool to identify non-Value-Adding-Work. VSM is a participatory tool. Thus it may offer an opportunity to combine interventions for improved performance and ergonomics. The aim of the present exploratory study is to report observations that seem to play significant roles as inhibitors and facilitators for proper intervention processes when using VSM. Seven hospital wards have been investigated in Denmark, Iceland and Sweden. Information was obtained by screening key hospital documents and interviewing participants in and around the VSM processes. Nine tape-recorded interviews were performed. The results tentatively point to the facilitating effect on the VSM process by emphasizing involvement and decision-making among the participants, 1st line manager support and engagement, allocation of sufficient resources, work environment issues as part of the VSM methodology and VSM routines that are well-established and broadly accepted.

α,3-Didehydro-5-methyl-6-hydroxytoluene: Matrix isolation of a diradical related to the neocarzinostatin chromophore

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- UV photolysis of 2,6-dimethylcyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-on-4-ylidene (4), matrix isolated in argon at 10 K, results in the formation of a labile species which is characterized as α,3-didehydro-5-methyl-6-hydroxybenzene (5) by comparison of the experimental IR spectrum with calculations at the ROSS-BLYP/6-31G(d,p) level of theory. This assignment is confirmed by isotopic labeling and by investigating the subsequent photochemistry of 5, which leads to 3-hydroxy-4-methylhepta-1,2,4-trien-6-yne (6). The ring opening of diradical 5 to eneyne-allene 6 corresponds to the reversion of a Myers cyclization.
