  • The upgraded DO detector
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9002 .- 1872-9576. ; 565:2, s. 463-537
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The DO experiment enjoyed a very successful data-collection run at the Fermilab Tevatron collider between 1992 and 1996. Since then, the detector has been upgraded to take advantage of improvements to the Tevatron and to enhance its physics capabilities. We describe the new elements of the detector, including the silicon microstrip tracker, central fiber tracker, solenoidal magnet, preshower detectors, forward muon detector, and forward proton detector. The uranium/liquid -argon calorimeters and central muon detector, remaining from Run 1, are discussed briefly. We also present the associated electronics, triggering, and data acquisition systems, along with the design and implementation of software specific to DO.

  • Competitive investment with varying risk premia
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This paper considers a model with a time-varying risk premium. The risk premium is driven by a continuous time Markov chain, representing the state in the economy, and the stochastic process generating the cash flows is a Markov-modulated geometric Brownian motion. An existing firm is facing the possibility of competitors entering the market, and due to this, cash flows are limited at levels which are dependent on the state of the economy. This results in a regulated Markov-modulated geometric Brownian motion, and the resulting accumulated supply can have jumps, something that is not possible in a model with only one regime.

  • Despite structural identity, ace-1 heterogenous duplication resistance alleles are quite diverse in Anopheles mosquitoes
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Heredity. - : Nature Publishing Group. - 0018-067X .- 1365-2540. ; 132:4, s. 179-191
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Anopheles gambiae s.l. has been the target of intense insecticide treatment since the mid-20th century to try and control malaria. A substitution in the ace-1 locus has been rapidly selected for, allowing resistance to organophosphate and carbamate insecticides. Since then, two types of duplication of the ace-1 locus have been found in An. gambiae s.l. populations: homogeneous duplications that are composed of several resistance copies, or heterogeneous duplications that contain both resistance and susceptible copies. The substitution induces a trade-off between resistance in the presence of insecticides and disadvantages in their absence: the heterogeneous duplications allow the fixation of the intermediate heterozygote phenotype. So far, a single heterogeneous duplication has been described in An. gambiae s.l. populations (in contrast with the multiple duplicated alleles found in Culex pipiens mosquitoes). We used a new approach, combining long and short-read sequencing with Sanger sequencing to precisely identify and describe at least nine different heterogeneous duplications, in two populations of An. gambiae s.l. We show that these alleles share the same structure as the previously identified heterogeneous and homogeneous duplications, namely 203-kb tandem amplifications with conserved breakpoints. Our study sheds new light on the origin and maintenance of these alleles in An. gambiae s.l. populations, and their role in mosquito adaptation.

  • Maktens fantasier och servicearbetets praktik : arbetsvillkor inom hotell- och restaurangbranschen i Malmö
  • 2007

  • The influence of rocky reefs on structure of benthic macrofauna in nearby soft-sediments
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Estuarine Coastal and Shelf Science. - 0272-7714. ; 52:2, s. 191-199
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Influences of rocky reefs on composition and abundances of species in assemblages of macrofauna in nearby subtidal, soft-sediments were examined by sampling at three distances from four rocky reefs, three natural and one man-made, in Botany Bay, NSW, Australia. There was significant spatial variation in structure of assemblages between transects and among reefs. The proportion of coarse material in sediments was generally larger close to, than far from, reefs. Assemblages sampled close to reefs were generally different in structure from those sampled away from rocky reefs. In multivariate analyses, assemblages close to reefs were spatially more variable than were those far from reefs. Analyses demonstrated that there were more species close to, than far from, the reefs; polychaetes of the family Syllidae were more abundant far from, than near to, rocky reefs. Artificial and natural rocky reefs influenced nearby benthic assemblages in sediments and various models are discussed to explain the patterns detected, especially those concerning predation and characteristics of the sediments. • Quantitative proteomics of the 2016 WHO Neisseria gonorrhoeae reference strains surveys vaccine candidates and antimicrobial resistance determinants
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Molecular & Cellular Proteomics. - : American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. - 1535-9476 .- 1535-9484. ; 18:1, s. 127-150
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The sexually transmitted disease gonorrhea (causative agent: Neisseria gonorrhoeae) remains an urgent public health threat globally due to its reproductive health repercussions, high incidence, widespread antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and absence of a vaccine. To mine gonorrhea antigens and enhance our understanding of gonococcal AMR at the proteome level, we performed the first large-scale proteomic profiling of a diverse panel (n=15) of gonococcal strains, including the 2016 World Health Organization (WHO) reference strains. These strains show all existing AMR profiles - established through phenotypic characterization and reference genome publication - and are intended for quality assurance in laboratory investigations. Herein, these isolates were subjected to subcellular fractionation and labeling with tandem mass tags coupled to mass spectrometry and multi-combinatorial bioinformatics. Our analyses detected 904 and 723 common proteins in cell envelope and cytoplasmic subproteomes, respectively. We identified nine novel gonorrhea vaccine candidates. Expression and conservation of new and previously selected antigens were investigated. In addition, established gonococcal AMR determinants were evaluated for the first time using quantitative proteomics. Six new proteins, WHO_F_00238, WHO_F_00635c, WHO_F_00745, WHO_F_01139, WHO_F_01144c, and WHO_F_01126, were differentially expressed in all strains, suggesting that they represent global proteomic AMR markers, indicate a predisposition toward developing or compensating gonococcal AMR, and/or act as new antimicrobial targets. Finally, phenotypic clustering based on the isolates' defined antibiograms and common differentially expressed proteins yielded seven matching clusters between established and proteome-derived AMR signatures. Together, our investigations provide a reference proteomics databank for gonococcal vaccine and AMR research endeavors, which enables microbiological, clinical, or epidemiological projects and enhances the utility of the WHO reference strains.

  • Rethinking children’s programming with contextual signs
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Proceeding of the 2006 Conference on Interaction Design and Children, IDC '06. - New York, NY, USA : ACM. ; , s. 121-128
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present an approach to children's programming inspired by the semiotics of comics. The idea is to build computer programs in a direct and concrete way by using a class of signs that we call contextual signs. There are two aspects that distinguish contextual signs from other sign systems used for programming. The first is that the signs are displayed in the immediate visual context of the object that they refer to. The second is that the signs are used to illustrate actions and properties in a way that is directly perceivable by the user. We argue that these two properties make contextual signs a promising high-level approach for building systems that are rich in dynamic properties, such as the ones that children often like to build.

  • Higher serum DHEA concentrations before and after SSRI treatment are associated with remission of major depression
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Psychoneuroendocrinology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0306-4530. ; 77, s. 122-130
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and its sulfated ester DHEA-sulfate (DHEA-S), (together DHEA[S]), are the most abundant adrenal steroids in humans and are found in blood and the brain, where they function as neurosteroids with direct receptor affinities. Preclinical studies suggest that DHEA(S) has antidepressant/neuroprotective properties, and exogenously administered DHEA has shown antidepressant efficacy in humans. Nonetheless, the role of endogenous DHEA(S) levels in major depressive disorder (MDD) and antidepressant outcomes remains unclear. Methods Morning fasting serum DHEA(S) concentrations were determined in 36 healthy, unmedicated MDD adults with Hamilton Depression (HDRS) ratings ≥17, and 75 healthy controls. MDD participants then completed eight weeks of open-label SSRI treatment before DHEA(S) levels were re-sampled; those with post-treatment HDRS ratings ≤7 were classified as “Remitters.” Pre- and post-treatment DHEA(S) levels of Remitters and Non-remitters were compared, controlling for age, sex, and BMI. Results Pre-treatment HDRS ratings did not differ between Remitters and Non-remitters (p = 0.179). Baseline DHEA levels of Remitters were significantly higher than both Non-remitters (p = 0.008) and controls (p = 0.004); baseline DHEA-S levels of Remitters were also higher than Non-remitters (p = 0.040) but did not significantly differ from controls (p = 0.096). Non-remitters did not significantly differ from controls. Post-treatment DHEA(S) levels remained higher in Remitters compared to Non-remitters (DHEA: p = 0.013; DHEA-S: p = 0.040). Conclusions These data suggest that higher circulating DHEA(S) levels (while unmedicated and after eight weeks of SSRI treatment) predict SSRI-associated remission in MDD. This raises the possibility that endogenous DHEA(S) abundance is a physiological adjunct to SSRI efficacy, as suggested by prior preclinical and clinical studies.
