- We describe a simple and efficient procedure to compute a conversion factor for the absolute potential of the standard hydrogen electrode in water to any other solvent. In contrast to earlier methods our procedure only requires the pK(a) of an arbitrary acid in water and few simple quantum chemical calculations as input. Thus, it is not affected adversely by experimental shortcomings related to measurements in non-aqueous solvents. By combining this conversion factor with the absolute potential in water, the absolute potential in the solvent of interest is obtained. Based on this procedure a new generalized computational standard hydrogen electrode for the computation of electron transfer and proton-coupled electron transfer potentials in non-aqueous solvents and ionic liquids is developed. This enables for the first time the reliable prediction of redox potentials in any solvent. The method is tested through calculation of absolute potentials in 36 solvents. Using the Kamlet-Taft linear solvation energy model we find that the relative absolute potentials consistently increase with decreasing polarisability and decreasing hydrogen bonding ability. For protic solvents good agreement with literature is observed while significant deviations are found for aprotic solvents. The obtained conversion factors are independent of the quantum chemical method, while minor differences are observed between solvation models. This does, however, not affect the global trends.

- The cellular localization of zinc transporter 7 protein in the mouse choroid plexus was examined in this study. Zinc transporter 7 immunoreactive cells were detected in the third, lateral, and fourth ventricles of CD-1 mouse brain. Distinct zinc transporter 7 immunoreactivity was concentrated in the perinuclear regions of the positive cells. The results from zinc autometallography showed that zinc-positive grains were also predominantly located in the perinuclear areas. Ultrastructural localization showed that zinc transporter 7 immunostaining was predominantly present in the membrane and cisternae of the cis-Golgi networks and some vesicle compartments. The results support the notion that zinc transporter 7 may participate in the transport of the cytoplasmic zinc into the Golgi apparatus, and may be involved in local packaging of zinc-binding proteins in the mouse choroid plexus.

- The majority of the world's fishers, fishworkers and their dependents live in coastal tropical areas that are, and will be, highly exposed to human-induced climate change. Projections indicate such change could result in coastal populations being more frequently and acutely impacted by natural disasters. Increasing aid interventions is a likely knock-on effect of such scenarios. How these external natural and social disturbances interact and affect local fisheries and small-scale producers is in part determined by the internal dynamics of the social-ecological system (SES). Economic vulnerability often characterizes communities in these settings and influences the means with which they navigate changes. The patron-client system is prolific in many rural economies and small-scale fisheries. It forms a central element in the organization of market interactions and often provides much needed finance for low-income households in place of formal options. How such injection of capital promotes individuals' ability to buffer income fluctuations at the expense of long-term sustainability of the broader fishery system is still an area in need of examination. This paper contributes to shed light on this issue by using a case study approach to trace the historical development of the fishery system in the Iloilo Province (Philippines) in relation to a major natural disaster-super-typhoon Haiyan, known locally as Yolanda-and the subsequent aid intervention that followed. The aim is to assess how the patron-client system filtered these two related disturbances and to highlight the resulting tensions between short-term individual resilience and longer-term SES sustainability.

- Phonation threshold pressures (PTP) have been commonly used for obtaining a quantita-tive measure of vocal fold motility. However, as these measures are quite low, it is typically dif-ficult to obtain reliable data. As the amplitude of an electroglottograph (EGG) signal de-creases substantially at the loss of vocal fold contact, it is mostly easy to determine the colli-sion threshold pressure (CTP) from an EGG signal. In an earlier investigation (Enflo & Sundberg, forthcoming) we measured CTP and compared it with PTP in singer subjects. Re-sults showed that in these subjects CTP was on average about 4 cm H2O higher than PTP. The PTP has been found to increase during vocal fatigue. In the present study we compare PTP and CTP before and after vocal loading in singer and non-singer voices, applying a load-ing procedure previously used by co-author FP. Seven subjects repeated the vowel se-quence /a,e,i,o,u/ at an SPL of at least 80 dB @ 0.3 m for 20 min. Before and after the loading the subjects’ voices were recorded while they produced a diminuendo repeating the syllable /pa/. Oral pressure during the /p/ occlusion was used as a measure of subglottal pressure. Both CTP and PTP increased significantly after the vocal loading.

- The growth dynamics of self-assembled GaSb quantum dots (QDs) on GaAs substrate was investigated using kinetic Monte Carlo method. The strain induced by the lattice mismatch between the epitaxial material and the substrate was shown to be directly responsible for the three-dimensional QD formation. Different geometries of the initial seeds on the surface which are equally favorable from an energy point of view can result in different GaSb nanostructures (nanostrips and nanoring).
