  • Locomotor pattern in the adult zebrafish spinal cord in vitro
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of Neurophysiology. - : American Physiological Society. - 0022-3077 .- 1522-1598. ; 99:1, s. 37-48
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The zebrafish is an attractive model system for studying the function of the spinal locomotor network by combining electrophysiological, imaging, and genetic approaches. Thus far, most studies have been focusing on embryonic and larval stages. In this study we have developed an in vitro preparation of the isolated spinal cord from adult zebrafish in which locomotor activity can be induced while the activity of single neurons can be monitored using whole cell recording techniques. Application of NMDA elicited rhythmic locomotor activity that was monitored by recording from muscles or ventral roots in semi-intact or isolated spinal cord preparations, respectively. This rhythmic activity displayed a left-right alternation and a rostrocaudal delay. Blockade of glycinergic synaptic transmission by strychnine switched the alternating activity into synchronous bursting in the left and right sides as well as along the rostrocaudal axis. Whole cell recordings from motoneurons showed that they receive phasic synaptic inputs that were correlated with the locomotor activity recorded in ventral roots. This newly developed in vitro preparation of the adult zebrafish spinal cord will allow examination of the organization of the spinal locomotor network in an adult system to complement studies in zebrafish larvae and new born rodents.

  • Assessment of the in vivo biomechanical properties of the human uterine cervix in pregnancy using the aspiration test A feasibility study
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0301-2115 .- 1872-7654. ; 144, s. S77-S81
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To date no diagnostic tool is yet available to objectively assess the in vivo biomechanical properties of the uterine cervix during gestation. Methods: We show the first clinical application of an aspiration device to assess the in vivo biomechanical properties of the cervix in pregnancy with the aim to describe the physiological biomechanical changes throughout gestation in order to eventually detect pregnant women at risk for cervical insufficiency (CI). Results: Out of 15 aspiration measurements, 12 produced valid results. The stiffness values were in the range between 0.013 and 0.068 bar/mm. The results showed a good reproducibility of the aspiration test. In our previous test series on non-pregnant cervices our repetitive measurements showed a standard deviation of > 20% compared to <+/- 10% to our data on pregnant cervices. Stiffness values are decreasing with gestational age which indicates a progressive softening of cervical tissue towards the end of pregnancy. Three pregnant women had two subsequent measurements within a time interval of four weeks. Decreasing stiffness values in the range of 20% were recorded. Discussion: This preliminary study on the clinical practicability of aspiration tests showed promising results in terms of reproducibility (reliability) and clinical use (feasibility). Ongoing studies will provide further insights on its usefulness in clinical practice and in the detection of substantial changes of the cervix in pregnancy indicative for threatened preterm birth or cervical insufficiency.

  • Data modeling of traceability information for manufacturing control system
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Proceedings - 2009 International Conference on Information Management and Engineering, ICIME 2009. - Kuala Lumpur : IEEE Computer Society Digital Library. - 9780769535951 ; , s. 633-637
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper focuses on data modeling for traceability in information layer of manufacturing control system. The model is able to trace all associated data throughout the product manufacturing from order to final product. Applicability of designed data-model is enhanced with traceability of associated quality data for the system dynamically. The modeling consisted of four steps, mapped successfully and integrated in one final framework. Techniques and procedures of the modeling are explained along with business relationships. Data model expression based on entity-relationships modeling is proposed. The developed model promises to handle fundamental issues of a traceability system effectively. It supports for customization and real-time control of material in flow in all quality and production operation processes. Recording deviations and assessing their impact become easier. Through enhanced visibility and dynamic store/retrieval of data, all traceability usages and applications is responded. Designed solution is initially applicable in identical lot-base traceability of material in flow cases as a reference data model.

  • Three-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis of GaPO4/Pt Surface Acoustic Wave Resonator Based on Cell Model
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: International Review on Modeling and Simulations. - Italy : Praise Worthy Prize. - 1974-9821 .- 1974-983X. ; 2:4, s. 426-432
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper present a three-dimensional finite element method for the one-port surface acoustic wave resonator base on GaPO4 with 5° cut for high frequency application. Interdigital transducer is assumed a thin film platinum with chromium as an under-layer material. The simulated frequency response and wave propagation are obtained under base cell model at 433.92 MHz centre frequency under ISM band. Frequency responses versus impedance are compared and verify with the known result in literature. The results show that the total displacements are vanished at a distance of about 2 to 3 wavelength from the surface. As expected, the X and Y displacement are 90°out-of-phase with each other. It is observed that the mass loading effect is suitable for prediction of resonant frequency. It is Q found that the factor value is larger than 1000 and the mode shapes for resonant and anti-resonant condition are different at two edges of stop-band.

  • Positive schizotypy and trait dissociation as vulnerability factors for post-traumatic distress
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: British Journal of Clinical Psychology. - : WILEY-BLACKWELL. - 0144-6657 .- 2044-8260. ; 47, s. 245-249
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective. This study investigated whether trait positive schizotypy or trait dissociation was associated with increased levels of data-driven processing and symptoms of post-traumatic distress following a road traffic accident. Methods. Forty-five survivors of road traffic accidents were recruited from a London Accident and Emergency service. Each completed measures of trait positive schizotypy, trait dissociation, data-driven processing, and post-traumatic stress. Results. Trait positive schizotypy was associated with increased levels of data-driven processing and post-traumatic symptoms during a road traffic accident, whereas trait dissociation was not. Conclusions. Previous results which report a significant relationship between trait dissociation and post-traumatic symptoms may be an artefact of the relationship between trait positive schizotypy and trait dissociation.
