  • Computer support for systematic design applied in a cross-functional commercial concept development project
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of TMCE2002, Wuhan, China.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, an empirical study aiming at exploring the practical applicability of a computer support for systematic design methodology is presented. During a six-month project a cross-functional product development team in the automotive industry was studied using an action-based research approach. The team applied a systematic design methodology and used a computer tool that provides support for systematic design. In this paper we set out our conclusions on the effects of the methodology and tool with regards to creativity, quality, time consumption, and the work process of the team. In addition, suggestions for future development of systematic design tools are listed. Finally, recommendations for the application of systematic design in industry are given.

  • Exploring Requirements Management in the Automotive Industry
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: 14th International Conference on Engineering Design Research for Practice - innovative products, processes and organisations.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents an empirical study carried out in the automotive industry, with the aim to bring forward new experiences and knowledge on management of requirements in practice. Adopting a qualitative systems approach, and using multiple information sources, the requirements management process during the development of a passenger car cockpit has been mapped out. The logical reconstruction of the requirements management process is complemented with descriptions of associated phenomena, such as important events and attitudes. Findings are presented, analysed and discussed considering also factors underlying observed phenomena.

  • Product Model for Requirements and Design Concept Management: Representing Design Alternatives and Rationale
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: 3th Annual International Symposium INCOSE 2003.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Throughout the development of complex products, thousands of requirements are established, communicated, followed up, and verified. In addition, even more design solutions, at various levels of abstractions, are created, refined, evaluated, industrialised and verified during this period. Although design tools support the documentation and administration of the output of these activities, i.e. requirements and solutions, they lack the functionality to support the iterative gestation of requirements and design solutions as they are created. This paper illustrates how a product model, focusing on requirements and design concept management, can address these issues by incorporating design rationale, i.e. the reasoning and the justification underlying requirements and solutions considered, with the aim to close the gap between product models and design rationale models. The product model has been implemented in a commercial PDM software and its use is illustrated with the information from the design of a passenger car cockpit.

  • Sustained norepinephrine contraction in the rat portal vein is lost when Ca(2+) is replaced with Sr(2+).
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: American Journal of Physiology: Cell Physiology. - : American Physiological Society. - 1522-1563 .- 0363-6143. ; 282:4, s. 845-852
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Agonist-induced activation of smooth muscle involves a rise in intracellular Ca(2+) concentration and sensitization of myosin light chain phosphorylation to Ca(2+). Sr(2+) can enter through Ca(2+) channels, be sequestered and released from sarcoplasmic reticulum, and replace Ca(2+) in activation of myosin light chain phosphorylation. Sr(2+) cannot replace Ca(2+) in facilitation of agonist-activated Ca(2+)-dependent nonselective cation channels. It is not known whether Sr(2+) can replace Ca(2+) in small G protein-mediated sensitization of phosphorylation. To explore mechanisms involved in alpha-receptor-activated contractions in smooth muscle, effects of replacing Ca(2+) with Sr(2+) were examined in rat portal vein. Norepinephrine (NE) at

  • Modelling Information for Mechatronic Products
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of ICED 03. ; :1331, s. 11-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In mechatronic product development, there is a lack of a common understanding among different engineering domains, regarding the design. One step in improving this situation is to develop information models capable of representing both hardware and software elements. The objective of this paper is to investigate the Chromosome Model’s ability with respect to the mechatronic product and also to suggest an information model which implements its principles. The approach takes its point of departure on a theoretical level by analysing theories from mechanical and software engineering. Further, software concepts of relevance are incorporated into the Chromosome Model. The result, referred to as a meta model, is then transformed to an information model by utilising STEP AP214. Both the meta model and the information model are validated with an industrial example. The conclusions drawn from the work are that the Chromosome Model can be used as a meta model for mechatronic products and that STEP AP214 can be deployed within the scope of the meta model. The resulting information model captures the functional, causal and spatial relationships of a mechatronic product.
