  • Solar Heating with Seasonal Storage. Some Aspects of the Design and Evaluation of Systems with Water Storage
  • 1993
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The report provides a basis for detailed design and evaluation of future solar heating plants with an insulated seasonal water storage. The importance of careful design and plant commissioning is pointed out and a system simulation model for future analyses of system performance is provided. A general evaluation methodology is presented. A pilot plant is described and used as an evaluation example. A system simulation model is formed and validated for the actual system performance in the pilot plant. The simulation model is then used to generalise the results in a parametric study. Sensitivity analyses for modified designs are carried out. The influence on thermal performance of some system design parameters is related to the change in collector area that will give the same amount of net solar coverage for a given storage and load. The report includes important design aspects of storage system layout and collector system heat capacity rate, which confirms earlier recommendations by the author. The influence of storage design on thermal performance is also presented in a similar way for a given collector and load. The cost permissible for a modified design is presented in relation to marginal collector cost. This way of presenting the results enables cost analyses to be performed by those designers who have the necessary knowledge to make an improved design.

  • Paving the way for applying GLIM criteria in clinical practice and research : how to define mild to moderate and severe reduced muscle mass
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: European Geriatric Medicine. - : Springer Nature. - 1878-7649 .- 1878-7657. ; 13:3, s. 611-614
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Key summary pointsAim To report grade 1 and grade 2 reduced muscle mass cut-offs for skeletal muscle mass (SMM) adjusted by body mass index (BMI) to increase the applicability of the GLIM criteria. Findings Grade 1 vs. grade 2 low muscle mass (LMM) thresholds were 1.189 and 0.954 kg/BMI vs. 1.049 and 0.823 kg/BMI in males and females, respectively. Message While validation studies are needed to evaluate their predictive ability, our approach presented here seems applicable and the cut-off values acceptable for use until population-specific values in different populations or global generic cut-offs are identified. Purpose Among approaches to adjust skeletal muscle mass (SMM) for body size, adjustment for body mass index (BMI) correlated better with functional measures. To enhance applicability of GLIM criteria, we report grade 1 and grade 2 reduced muscle mass cut-offs for SMM adjusted by BMI. Methods 301 young, healthy adults involving students, patient relatives and staff working in the university hospital were included. SMM was estimated by bio-impedance analysis (BIA). SMM index (BMI) [SMMI(BMI)] was calculated as SMM/BMI. Grade 1 low muscle mass (LMM) was defined as "mean young SMMI(BMI)-one standard deviation" and grade 2 LMM as "mean young SMMI(BMI)-two standard deviations". Results Mean age was 26.5 +/- 4.6 (62.1% male). Grade 1 vs grade 2 LMM thresholds were 1.189 and 0.954 kg/BMI vs 1.049 and 0.823 kg/BMI in males and females, respectively. Conclusion This is the first report identifying stage 1 and stage 2 LMM thresholds for SMMI adjusted by BMI. Studies are needed to evaluate their predictive validity.

  • Effects of acute cholecystokinin infusion on hemispheric EEG asymmetry and coherence in healthy volunteers
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Progress in Neuro-psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry. - 0278-5846 .- 1878-4216. ; 27:1, s. 179-184
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study investigated the effects of continuous slow infusion of cholecystokinin tetrapeptide (CCK-4), a neuropeptide with panicogenic properties, on functional hemispheric differences, as indexed by quantitative electroencephalographic (EEG) asymmetry and coherence measures. Twenty-four adult volunteers (15 females and 9 males) were assigned to infusion with either placebo or CCK-4 in a randomized, double-blind, parallel-group design, with EEG being recorded before and during (10 and 40 min) a 60-min infusion period. No significant treatment differences were observed for absolute EEG power but, compared to placebo, CCK-4 infusion increased asymmetry and reduced coherence of slow-wave activity at midtemporal recording sites. These findings support the contention that functional imbalance of the temporal cortex, perhaps mediated by CCK-4, is involved in panic disorder (PD).
