- This chapter illuminates what nurses experience as central conflicts shaping their everyday/everynight work, and what forms of injustice they identify as arising from those circumstances. Through the concept of real utopia, we explore what forms of radical visions of care nurses harbour and express. A central argument is that the interviewed nurses suggest a new system of value - in which care constitutes the moral centre of the healthcare organisation,and in which care is allowed to take time and caring time is valued as an asset, rather than viewed as an avoidable cost. We argue that to sustain social reproduction, a new notion of value must evolve in society, one that places primacy on care instead of on accumulation. In the nurses’ accounts, we see radical proposals of such a new system of value - one in which care is the prime resource and a prime profit. Such a vision moves beyond demands for new managerial models, and instead suggests a re-interpretation of how to measure output and what to conceptualise as productivity.

- Det finns ett påtagligt behov att synliggöra problemet med särbehandling i arbetslivet som ett socialpolitiskt problem. Social utsatthet i arbetslivet har ökat och särbehandling är ett rättsligt reglerat fenomen. Rättsskyddet och arbetsskadeförsäkringsskyddet för dem som hamnar utanför arbetsmarknaden på grund av särbehandlingär dock svagt, vilket gör att problemet behöver synliggöras som en socialpolitisk fråga, vilket inte görs idag. Förståelsen för särbehandling som fenomen i arbetslivet rymmer en stor kunskapslucka inom forskningsfältet, avseende praktiken och logiken bakom social exkludering och utmanövrering. Det finns idag en växande kritik mot individualiseringen av särbehandling som problem, såväl i praktik som forskning. Kritiken framhåller att det saknas strukturell kontextualisering till fenomenet särbehandling och att fokus inom den traditionella forskningen, alltför ensidigt, sökt förklaringar på individnivå. Behovet av teoretisk utveckling på organisationsnivå efterfrågas som kan öka förståelsen för problemet med social utsatthet i arbetslivet. Syftet med denna avhandling är att utforska hur särbehandling i form av ostracism, det vill säga ignorering, avvisande, exkludering och utmanövrering, praktiseras och uppstår i den organisatoriska arbetsmiljön med fokus på organisering av arbete, organisationskultur, organisatoriskt klimat samt beslutsprocessen kring utmanövrering. Metoden är organisationsetnografi vilket tillämpas på ett fall inom ett större sjukhus i Sverige, där det pågår utmanövrering på olika nivåer i organisationen. Utgångspunkten för fallet är att ge röst åt en profession inom sjukvården som sällan är i fokus: steriltekniker. Analysen har en abduktiv ansats och sker inom ramen för ett organisationspolitiskt perspektiv. Resultatet presenteras i fyra empiriska kapitel som visar A/Rumslig organisering, professionell diskurs och teknologisk övervakning fungerar som politiska verktyg för ostracism av medarbetare. B/ Organisationskulturen cirklar kring perfektionsideal och varumärkets överordnade plats i kommunikationen, vilket legitimerar särbehandling. C/ En reduktionistisk syn på särbehandling i styrdokument möjliggör döljande av strukturell särbehandling av medarbetare. D/ Beslutet att utmanövrera medarbetare baseras på en form av fabricering som har stöd i organisationens politik och kan ses som en forcerad politisk överenskommelse för att reducera osäkerhet. Tillsammans visas att den organisatoriska arbetsmiljön leder till att strukturell särbehandling reproducerar riktad särbehandling. Resultatet teoretiseras vilket mynnar ut i en definition av pragmatisk särbehandling. Pragmatisk särbehandling kan beskrivas i fyra dimensioner som jag kallar sociala föreställningar, hierarkisk gisslanpolitik, politisk uppmärksamhet och forcerade handslag. Tillsammans förklarar begreppen hur utmanövrering orkestreras som en följd av att medarbetare bedöms utgöra någon form av risk, baserad på sociala föreställningar, för organisationens strategiska intresse och/eller för de aktörer som drar nytta av dessa intressen. Avhandlingen kan ses som en dissonans till den traditionella synen på särbehandling som bygger på antagandet om en eskalerad konflikt mellan ”offer” och ”förövare”. Istället argumenteras för att individualiseringen i arbetslivet driver fram exkluderingspraktik och en reduktionistisk syn på särbehandling, vilket behöver problematiseras inom socialpolitiken.

- The purpose of this article is to identify and analyze the conditions and strategies for creatinga critical and decolonial social work in the urban periphery. IIn this article we explore Save theChildren’s program ”On equal terms”, that during the past decade created a space for local mobilizationin several areas in Sweden, with the purpose of resolving communal problems. The articleidentifies three elements as central for their critical social work: the empowerment of a newgeneration of social organizers grounded in the urban periphery; the forming of alliances for thepurpose of developing new languages and strategies to address problems and solutions in alternativeways; and the construction of counter-publics through the appropriation of space for theestablishment of citizen-driven meeting places. Through these strategies and conditions, a decolonialsocial work was formed. Inspired by theories of resistance and mobilization, we interpret thework of ”On equal terms” as an expression of the politics of public-making and border work thattranscends the separation between activism and social work, giving space for new alternatives andhorizons.

- In Sweden, during the parliamentary election campaign in 2022, birth control and family planning were identified as practices that could solve all variety of social problems, from poverty to crime. They were also presented as a solution to migrant women’s supposed lack of integration into Swedish society.Criticism towards discourses and policies of family planning is extensive, from scholars challenging the notion of ‘voluntariness’ to those arguing that, in family planning, women’s lives are subordinated to economic and developmental goals. While contraceptive technologies hold an impressive emancipatory power in the lives of women globally, vulnerable groups of women have, in the name of family planning, experienced forced sterilisation and reproductive coercion.This chapter aims to analyse political discourses and governmental policies on reproduction through the conceptual lens of reproductive racism. We hope to challenge what we identify as historical amnesia concerning Swedish ‘family planning’ and show how, in different ways, reproductive rights in Sweden are inscribed and embedded into racial inequalities.The empirical material presented here has been collected with the aim of illustrating governmental policies that historically and today shape and frame diverse forms of reproductive racism with a special focus on welfare professionals.

- Inspired by materialist intersectional analyses, this article explores how the dominant discourses about the figure of ‘foreign-born unemployed women’. This figuration is seen as fixed in time and place and shapes a labour force that is trained to be flexible, patient and disposable though various forms of temporal regulation. The article identifies three different forms of temporal control racialized unemployed woman are subject too, waiting, the stealing of time though the devaluation of previous education and life experiences and finally, the strategic unaccountability of the organisation. These different forms of temporal and spatial control combined, I argue, shape a labour force that is flexible, with long experience of uncertainty and the unpredictably, and a labour force that is directed toward the margins of the labour market, to the periphery. The chapter is based on interviews with 30 unemployed women between the ages of 25 and 54 who had all experienced migration from the Global South.
