  • Beam test performance and simulation of prototypes for the ALICE silicon pixel detector
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9002 .- 1872-9576. ; 573:1-2, s. 1-3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The silicon pixel detector (SPD) of the ALICE experiment in preparation at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN is designed to provide the precise vertex reconstruction needed for measuring heavy flavor production in heavy ion collisions at very high energies and high multiplicity. The SPD forms the innermost part of the Inner Tracking System (ITS) which also includes silicon drift and silicon strip detectors. Single assembly prototypes of the ALICE,SPD have been tested at the CERN SPS using high energy proton/pion beams in 2002 and 2003. We report on the experimental determination of the spatial precision. We also report on the first combined beam test with prototypes of the other ITS silicon detector technologies at the CERN SPS in November 2004. The issue of SPD simulation is briefly discussed.

  • Industrial Robotics
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Springer handbook of robotics. - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin Heidelberg. - 9783540239574 - 9783540303015 ; , s. 963-986
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Most robots today can trace their origin to early industrial robot designs. Much of the technology that makes robots more human-friendly and adaptable for different applications has emerged from manufacturers of industrial robots. Industrial robots are by far the largest commercial application of robotics technology today. All the important foundations for robot control were initially developed with industrial applications in mind. These applications deserve special attention in order to understand the origin of robotics science and to appreciate many unsolved problems that still prevent the wider use of robots in manufacturing. In this chapter we present a brief history and descriptions of typical industrial robotics applications. We show how robots with different mechanisms fit different applications. Even though robots are well established in large-scale manufacturing, particularly in automobile and related component assembly, there are still many challenging problems to solve. The range of feasible applications could significantly increase if robots were easier to install, to integrate with other manufacturing processes, and to program, particularly with adaptive sensing and automatic error recovery. We outline some of these remaining challenges for researchers.

  • Fast four-channel fibre-optic displacement sensor for measuring impact waves at low cost
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Measurement science and technology. - 0957-0233 .- 1361-6501. ; 17:5, s. 1162-1166
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have developed a fast four-channel fibre-optic sensor for measuring dynamic surface displacements caused by shock waves. Light from an LED emitter is sent through a plastic fibre and reflected from the surface back into the fibre. The intensity of the reflected light gives the distance to the surface unambigously. Based on simple principles and utilizing inexpensive components, micrometre and microsecond resolution is achieved at lower cost and with easier usage than for interferometric methods and with better reliability than an accelerometer. The sensor is comparatively easy to set up. It is battery operated for reduced sensitivity to electromagnetic interference. The design of the fibre probe facilitates access in narrow and hostile environments.

  • A longitudinal study of perfectionism in adolescent onset anorexia nervosa-restricting type
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: European eating disorders review. - : Wiley. - 1072-4133 .- 1099-0968. ; 16:5, s. 386-394
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This longitudinal study analyses self-reported perfectionism, eating disorders and psychiatric symptoms during recovery from anorexia nervosa (AN). With a recovered design, a group of 68 previous patients with AN was studied in two follow-up studies, 8 and 16 years after 1st admission to Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP). Levels of perfectionism stayed the same while eating disorder symptoms and psychiatric symptoms decreased during recovery. Levels of perfectionism were inversely related to duration of remission so that individuals that had short illness duration had lower levels of perfectionism at both follow-ups. Patients with initial high levels of perfectionism may be at risk for a long illness duration which we recommend clinicians to acknowledge.
