De många bidragen ger en översiktlig bild av forskningen kring litteratur som historisk källa bland svenska forskare.

Teaching Manufacturing Operations and Strategies in Higher Education

- Students at higher technical educations e.g., bachelors and masters, are traditionally taught in software programming and factory automation. Students at higher economical and management schools are exposed to different strategies and their economical impacts. However, in many education programs, the larger perspective, of how to combine the technical and the economical aspects is not highlighted. Technology Management is a unique program at Lund University Sweden, where a selected number of students from the school of economics and management and from the engineering faculty are taught together during their last year of study. Their views on problems and challenges in todays industry often complement each other. The course Technology, Strategies and Structures includes e.g. projects done in collaboration with industries. This paper includes a discussion about how knowledge about Manufacturing Operations and Strategies, can be incorporated in higher technical and economical studies, and it describes some industry projects done by students.

- The importance of software systems for the planning and execution of production has drastically increased over the past decades. This has lead to a growth in number of software systems used within sites. The company’s problem today is no longer only to find relevant software systems but rather to coordinate and synchronize existing systems. Students at higher technical educations e.g., bachelors and masters, are traditionally taught in software programming and factory automation. Students at higher economical and management schools are exposed to different manufacturing strategies and their economical impacts. However, in many education programs, the larger perspective, of how to combine the technical and the economical aspects is not highlighted. Without a clear structure of how to tackle the puzzle of combining the different software systems, the risk of getting a complex and fragmented information exchange between a company’s hierarchical levels and functions is high, this, with the bi-effect that production strategies with regards to time, cost, flexibility and quality are not maximized. Technology Management is a unique program at Lund University, where a selected number of students from The School of Management and Economics in Lund and from Lund Institute of Technology are taught together during their last year of study. Their views on problems and challenges in today’s industry often complement each other. The course “Technology, Strategy and Structure” includes, among other things, projects done in collaboration with industries. In this course the usage of the ISA 95 standard, as a tool for structuring complex information exchange within production sites and for harmonizing the company’s information flow, is discussed, analyzed and used in the projects. This paper includes a discussion about how the ISA 95 can be incorporated in higher technical and economical studies, and it describes some of the industry projects done by the students.

- History shows us that in the cost/performance ratio of any given product has decreased continuously. This may wrongly have led us to the conclusion that improvements can continue infinitely at the current pace. Our proposition is that we trust a mental picture that is not consistent with the future level of potential improvements in technology and business, which in turn has repercussions for societal change. This article draws on the theory of Tainter (1988) and it argues that recent developments in business may reverse the previous development towards increasing complexity, but it may still increase the risk of an economic collapse.

- When projects are used as an organisational platform to conduct business, a project can be the only project in the organisation or one amongst several others. The latter case is called multi-project organisation. Usually an organization with a multi-project environment has a base organisation, which can be functional, matrix structure or another. The purpose of this article is to develop a model based on a process oriented organization as a complement to functional or matrix organizational structures. The article is written from a management point of view. Management of Multi-projects in a process-oriented organisation is analysed from a strategic point of view as well as from an operational point of view. Theoretical conclusions as well as practical recommendations are presented.

- “What characterizes an acceptable theory of self-realization?” The thrust of the present dissertation is towards seeking an answer to this central problem, which stems from the fundamental human experience that life involves change, and that in a modern society such change is often expected to be towards a realization of potentials and the good life for the individual. The dissertation has a three-fold purpose. The first is to clarify the content of five modern theories of self-realization from three academic fields. The theories are those of the psychologist Abraham H. Maslow, the philosophers Charles Taylor and Alan Gewirth, and the theologians Reinhold Niebuhr and Bernard Lonergan. These are methodologically studied by the help of seven analytical questions. The second purpose is to perform a lengthwise comparatative analysis of the five theories, the results of which lead to the third; namely to critically discuss several elements of the reality of human life which have proven to be missing or supressed in much of the material.The theoretical framework for the dissertation runs along two axes: one concerns what is developed as a distinction between internalism and relationalism, and the other is to cast a critical light on the lack of attention paid by the the theories of self-realization to experiences which run counter to optimistic ideas of individual development, such as death, loss and dependence. The dissertation concludes with an outline for a constructive position based on the necessity of a theory’s closeness to experience, and on the need for reconcilitation of what may seem to be unabridgeble in human life. A theory of self-realization must do more than formulate positive conditions for change. It must also take into consideration conditions that are not directly related to, and sometimes even run contrary to, realization of the self.
