    • The strong-interaction effects in antiprotonic 16O, 17O, and 18O atoms were measured at the CERN antiproton facility, LEAR. The shifts ε{lunate} and the widths Γ of the 3d level were determined to be -112±20 eV (16O), -140±46 eV (17O), -195±20 eV (18O), and 495±45 eV (16O), 540±150 (17O), 640±40 eV (18O), respectively. © 1986.

  • Effect of viscosity on the pharmacokinetics and biological response to intranasal desmopressin.
  • 1989
  • Ingår i: Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences. - : Elsevier BV. - 0022-3549. ; 78:6, s. 470-471
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • he effect of viscosity on the nasal absorption and biological response to desmopressin was studied in humans. Nasal solutions of desmopressin with and without the addition of 0.25% (w/v) methylcellulose were administered by a precompression nasal spray pump to 10 volunteers. Plasma levels of desmopressin were assayed by radioimmunoassay and the biological response was measured by determination of the antihemophilia factors (Factor VIII and von Willebrand factor). The results showed that the addition of methylcellulose produced a more sustained and slower absorption, with a longer time to maximum plasma concentration (tmax). However, the areas under the plasma concentration—time curve were not different, indicating a similar total bioavailability. The biological response showed a similar effect. Peak Factor VIII activity was not different, but the presence of methylcellulose produced a slower onset of activity. These findings indicate that although the addition of a viscous agent to nasal formulations may produce a more sustained effect, it delays the onset of activity and no enhancement is achieved in the total bioavailability.

  • Development of Activities - Standard Application Packages according SIV to help you make better use of standard application packages in your organization : Verksamhetsutveckling - Standardsystem enligt SIV för att du skall kunna utnyttja standardsystem bättre i din verksamhet
  • 1986
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The report is published in an English and Swedish version.Rapporten finns utgiven på svenska och engelska. ------------------------------------------------There is a need for a systematic way of working when planning for standard application packages in organizations. We have tried to develop a method for this field - the SIV method (Standard Application Packages in Organizations, in Swedish: Standardsystem I Verksamheter). The SIV method takes the customer's situation as a starting point - a customer view. Furthermore, occasions have been described where a dialogue between the customer and the vendor is necessary, e.g. demonstrations and negotiations. The SIV method gives a survey of the field with emphasis on adaptation of activities and standard application packages to each other. This report is focusing on "adaptation" of standard application packages.

  • Mercury, selenium, and glutathione peroxidase in dental personnel.
  • 1989
  • Ingår i: Acta Odontologica Scandinavica. - 0001-6357 .- 1502-3850. ; 47:6, s. 383-90
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Eighteen persons, dentists and nurses, with urinary mercury levels higher than the group median value of all dental personnel in the country of Västerbotten were compared with a group consisting of 15 persons with low urinary mercury levels working in the same clinics. A statistically significant difference between the high urinary mercury group and the low urinary mercury group could be seen in the plasma mercury level. In each group a statistically significant relation could be seen between the plasma mercury level and the total number of amalgam surfaces. The two groups did not differ with regard to the levels of plasma selenium and erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase, and no correlation between these two variables and the plasma mercury levels could be found. To evaluate organ functions, a large number of supplementary analyses were performed. These analyses did not indicate any influence on organ functions. Although the persons in the present study were occupationally exposed to mercury, none of the biologic variables analyzed seemed to be affected. Even among dental personnel who handle amalgam professionally the number of amalgam surfaces is a major contributory factor to the P-mercury level.

  • Spatial learning and memory following fimbria-fornix transection and grafting of fetal septal neurons to the hippocampus
  • 1987
  • Ingår i: Experimental Brain Research. - 0014-4819. ; 67:1, s. 195-215
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The ability of intrahippocampal grafts of fetal septal-diagonal band tissue, rich in developing cholinergic neurons, to ameliorate cognitive impairments induced by bilateral fimbria-fornix transections in rats was examined in three experiments using the Morris water-maze to test different aspects of spatial memory. Experiment 1. Rats with fimbriafornix lesions received either septal cell suspension grafts or solid septal grafts; normal rats and rats with lesions alone were used as controls. Sixteen weeks after surgery, the rats' spatial learning and memory were tested in the water-maze using a place test, designed to investigate place navigation performance, in which rats learned to escape from the water by swimming to a platform hidden beneath the water's surface. After 5 days of training, the rats were given a spatial probe test in which the platform was removed from the tank to test spatial reference memory. Experiment 2. The same rats used in Exp. 1 were tested in a delayed-match-to-sample, working memory version of the water-maze task. The platform was located in one of two possible locations during each trial, which was composed of 2 swims. If the rat remembered the location of the platform on the 2nd swim of a trial, it should find the platform more quickly on that swim, and thereby demonstrate working memory. Experiment 3. Prior to receiving fimbria-fornix lesions, normal rats were trained in a modification of the water-maze task using alternating cue navigation and place navigation trials (i.e., with visible or non-visible escape platforms). The retention and reacquisition of the place task and the spatial probe test were examined in repeated tests up to 6 months after the lesion and intrahippocampal grafting of septal cell suspensions. The effects of central muscarinic cholinergic receptor blockade with atropine were also tested. Normal rats performed well in both the place and spatial probe tests. In contrast, rats with fimbria-fornix lesions only were unable to acquire or retain spatial information in any test. Instead, these rats adopted a random, non-spatial search strategy, whereby their latencies to find the platform decreased in the place navigation tasks. Sixty to 80% of the rats with septal suspension or solid grafts had recovered place navigation, i.e., the ability to locate the platform site in the tank, in Exp. 1 and 3, and they showed a significantly improved performance in the working memory test in Exp. 2. Atropine abolished the recovered place navigation in the grafted rats, whereas normal rats were impaired to a lesser extent.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 400 WORDS)
