  • A Comparison of Rule-based Analysis with Regression Methods in Understanding the Risk Factors for Study Withdrawal in a Pediatric Study
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2045-2322. ; 6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Regression models are extensively used in many epidemiological studies to understand the linkage between specific outcomes of interest and their risk factors. However, regression models in general examine the average effects of the risk factors and ignore subgroups with different risk profiles. As a result, interventions are often geared towards the average member of the population, without consideration of the special health needs of different subgroups within the population. This paper demonstrates the value of using rule-based analysis methods that can identify subgroups with heterogeneous risk profiles in a population without imposing assumptions on the subgroups or method. The rules define the risk pattern of subsets of individuals by not only considering the interactions between the risk factors but also their ranges. We compared the rule-based analysis results with the results from a logistic regression model in The Environmental Determinants of Diabetes in the Young (TEDDY) study. Both methods detected a similar suite of risk factors, but the rule-based analysis was superior at detecting multiple interactions between the risk factors that characterize the subgroups. A further investigation of the particular characteristics of each subgroup may detect the special health needs of the subgroup and lead to tailored interventions.

  • A Welfare State of Mind?: Nordic journalists’ conception of their role and autonomy in international context
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journalism Studies. - 1461-670X .- 1469-9699. ; 18:5, s. 595-613
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • © 2016 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis GroupThe development of journalism in the Nordic countries has been shaped by two interconnected ideologies: the welfare state and democratic corporatism. International reviews have repeatedly emphasized the similarities of the media systems in these countries. However, less work has been done on the professional identity of individual journalists working within these systems. In this article, the similarities and differences between journalists’ professional values and perceptions in the Nordic countries are explored based on survey data from the Worlds of Journalism Study. The results indicate that despite country-specific variance, Nordic journalists share a vision of their professional identity especially in terms of seeing themselves as detached watchdogs and renouncing the role of opportunist facilitator. Another Nordic characteristic is the low level of experienced economic influence on journalistic work. In important ways, thus, Nordic journalists’ professional views appear to reflect central characteristics of the political culture and media systems in which they work.

  • SIOPE - Brain tumor group consensus guideline on craniospinal target volume delineation for high-precision radiotherapy
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Radiotherapy and Oncology. - : ELSEVIER IRELAND LTD. - 0167-8140 .- 1879-0887. ; 128:2, s. 192-197
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To develop a consensus guideline for craniospinal target volume (TV) delineation in children and young adults participating in SIOPE studies in the era of high-precision radiotherapy. Methods and materials: During four consensus meetings (Cambridge, Essen, Liverpool, and Marseille), conventional field-based TV has been translated into image-guided high-precision craniospinal TV by a group of expert paediatric radiation oncologists and enhanced by MRI images of liquor distribution. Results: The CTVcranial should include the whole brain, cribriform plate, most inferior part of the temporal lobes, and the pituitary fossa. If the full length of both optic nerves is not included, the dose received by different volumes of optic nerve should be recorded to correlate with future patterns of relapse (no consensus). The CTVcranial should be modified to include the dural cuffs of cranial nerves as they pass through the skull base foramina. Attempts to spare the cochlea by excluding CSF within the internal auditory canal should be avoided. The CTVspinal should include the entire subarachnoid space, including nerve roots laterally. The lower limit of the spinal CTV is at the lower limit of the thecal sac, best visible on MRI scan. There is no need to include sacral root canals in the spinal CTV. Conclusion: This consensus guideline has the potential to improve consistency of craniospinal TV delineation in an era of high-precision radiotherapy. This proposal will be incorporated in the RTQA guidelines of future SIOPE-BTG trials using CSI.

  • Barn och vårdnadshavares minnen av deltagande i pedagogisk dokumentation
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Nordisk Barnehageforskning. - : OsloMet – storbyuniversitetet. - 1890-9167 .- 1890-9167. ; 17:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract

  • "Sometimes we have to clash" : How Swedish preschool teachers' engage with cultural value differences
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: 27th EECERA Annual Conference. ; , s. 171-171
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Research aims: This study aims to contribute knowledge about how preschool teachers engage with tensions stemming from cultural value differences among teachers, caregivers, and children.Relationship to previous research works: Motivating this work is current socio-cultural circumstances in Sweden in which preschool teachers are negotiating divergent curricular demands that simultaneously promote cultural diversity and a common tradition. Consequently, teachers are experiencing an increased burden to address societal expectations concerning cultural diversity without appropriate communicative and conceptual tools (Björk Willén et. al, 2013; Lunneblad, 2006).Theoretical and conceptual framework: We draw on Biesta’s (2006) – via Lingis (1994) - conception of the rational community (RC) and the community-without-community (CwC) as an interpretive framework.Paradigm, methodology and methods: Project data was gathered through a series of focus group interviews with teachers in two preschools in Sweden, using stimulus materials designed to elicit discussion about value conflicts and cultural diversity.Ethical Considerations: Informed consent was obtained from all study participants.Main finding or discussion: Teacher engagement with questions of culture and values were organized around discussions of actual and imagined disagreements between teachers and caregivers about activities with preschool children. Analysis through the lens of RC and CwC revealed that teachers on the one hand, reinforced societal values and avoided conflict through invocation of the language of the rational community; on the other hand, from a CWC perspective, they developed insights about the value of conflict as means of gaining insight into the perspectives and cultures of the caregivers, as well as about their professional development.Implications, practice or policy: Project findings have implications for the development of pedagogical and policy tools related intercultural processes in preschool education practice and research.

  • 2019
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The program in Social Psychiatric Care is a three-year program at the university level leading to a vocational qualification in social psychiatric care and a bachelor's degree in the field of Health Sciences. Until the spring of 2018, six litters have graduated. Students in the social psychiatric care program often have personal interest, previous professional experience from the business areas or inspiration from related friends working in the field of activity. Personal experiences of problems in the fields of activity are also prominent among the students. Students believe that personal experience, willingness and ability is important in order to work within the profession. Characteristics of the students are also an interest and a clear empathetic willingness to work with people and they consider that the profession primarily requires characteristics such as altruism, empathy, social skills and deeper knowledge and understanding in the field. Upon completion of education, students want a career role where they can help other people, feel motivated, or they aim for specific positions or areas of activity. Both managers and alumni from the Social Psychiatric Care program value the broad professional competence that the program leads to. Psychiatric competence is emphasized as particularly valuable by both alumni and managers. This competence means that they also complement the other professions in the activities. Students consider themselves possessed a professional identity that involves introducing psychiatric and custody skills to organizations that previously lacked these perspectives. Something that also brings new approaches to patients, users and clients. Being able to use knowledge from several disciplines are considered to be a strength and competence that are well-needed in environments where people with mental ill health are cared for. The alumni perceive their knowledge as both interdisciplinary and interprofessional.

  • Atomic Contributions to the Valence Band Photoelectron Spectra of Metal-free, Iron and Manganese Phthalocyanines
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Electron Spectroscopy and Related Phenomena. - : Elsevier BV. - 0368-2048 .- 1873-2526. ; 205, s. 92-97
  • Forskningsöversikt (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The present work reports a photoelectron spectroscopy study of the low-energy region of the valence band of metal-free phthalocyanine (H2Pc) compared with those of iron phthalocyanine (FePc) and manganese phthalocyanine (MnPc). We have analysed in detail the atomic orbital composition of the valence band both experimentally, by making use of the variation in photoionization cross-sections with photon energy, and theoretically, by means of density functional theory. The atomic character of the Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital (HOMO), reflected on the outermost valence band binding energy region, is different for MnPc as compared to the other two molecules. The peaks related to the C 2p contributions, result in the HOMO for H2Pc and FePc and in the HOMO-1 for MnPc as described by the theoretical predictions, in very good agreement with the experimental results. The DFT simulations, discerning the atomic contribution to the density of states, indicate how the central metal atom interacts with the C and N atoms of the molecule, giving rise to different partial and total density of states for these three Pc molecules.
