  • THE NORTHWEST FRONTIER : SPECTROSCOPY OF N similar to Z NUCLEI BELOW MASS 100
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Acta Physica Polonica B. - 0587-4254 .- 1509-5770. ; 40:3, s. 611-620
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The spectroscopy and structure of excited states of N similar to Z nuclei in the mass 70-100 region has been investigated using two techniques. In the A similar to 70-80 region fusion evaporation reactions coupled with the recoil-beta-tagging method have been employed at Jyvaskyla to study low-lying states in odd-odd N = Z nuclei. Results from these and other data for known odd-odd nuclei above mass 60 will be discussed. In the heavier mass 90 region a fragmentation experiment has been performed using the RIS-ING/FRS setup at GSI. This experiment was primarily aimed at searching for spin gap isomers in nuclei around A similar to 96. The objectives of the latter experiment will be discussed.

  • Admission control with service level agreements for a web server
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the IASTED International Conference on Internet and Multimedia Systems and Applications, EuroIMSA 2005 : February 21 - 23, 2005, Grindelwald, Switzerland. - 0889864845
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • One problem with web servers is that they are sensitive to overload. The servers may become overloaded during temporary traffic peaks when more requests arrive than the server is designed for. Because overload usually occurs rather seldom, it is not economical to overprovision the servers for these traffic peaks, instead admission control mechanisms can be implemented in the servers. This pa per investigates two overload control strategies with per formance bounds for a web server. In service level agree ments, we bound average response times and throughputs for all service classes. Each request is sorted into a class, where each class is assigned a weight representing the in come for the web site owner. Then a linear optimization algorithm is applied so that the total revenue for the web site during overload is maximized.

  • Design and evaluation of an overload control system for crisis-related Web server systems
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: 2006 International Conference on Internet Surveillance and Protection. - 0769526497
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • During recent years we have seen several large-scale crises. The 9/11 terror attacks, tsunamis, storms, floods and bombings have all caused a great deal of damage. A common factor in these crises has been the need for information and one important source of information is usually Web sites. In this work we investigate and design an overload control system for Web sites that are vital in crises. The overload control system uses content adaption to dynamically control Web site performance

  • Low-spin collective behavior in the transitional nuclei Mo-86,Mo-88
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 76:1, s. 014307-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Low-spin structures in Mo-86,Mo-88 were populated using the Ni-58(Ar-36, x alpha yp) heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reaction at a beam energy of 111 MeV. Charged particles and gamma rays were emitted in the reactions and detected by the DIAMANT CsI ball and the EXOGAM Ge array, respectively. In addition to the previously reported low-to-medium spin states in these nuclei, new low-spin structures were observed. Angular correlation and linear polarization measurements were performed in order to unambiguously determine the spins and parities of intensely populated states in Mo-88. Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (QRPA) calculations were performed for the first and second excited 2(+) states in Mo-86 and Mo-88. The results are in qualitative agreement with the experimental results, supporting a collective interpretation of the low-spin states for these transitional nuclei.

  • Systematisation of spatial uncertainties for comparison between a MR and a CT-based radiotherapy workflow for prostate treatments
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Radiation Oncology. - 1748-717X. ; 4:54
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: In the present work we compared the spatial uncertainties associated with a MR-based workflow for external radiotherapy of prostate cancer to a standard CT-based workflow. The MR-based workflow relies on target definition and patient positioning based on MR imaging. A solution for patient transport between the MR scanner and the treatment units has been developed. For the CT-based workflow, the target is defined on a MR series but then transferred to a CT study through image registration before treatment planning, and a patient positioning using portal imaging and fiducial markers. Methods: An "open bore" 1.5T MRI scanner, Siemens Espree, has been installed in the radiotherapy department in near proximity to a treatment unit to enable patient transport between the two installations, and hence use the MRI for patient positioning. The spatial uncertainty caused by the transport was added to the uncertainty originating from the target definition process, estimated through a review of the scientific literature. The uncertainty in the CT-based workflow was estimated through a literature review. Results: The systematic uncertainties, affecting all treatment fractions, are reduced from 3-4 mm (ISd) with a CT based workflow to 2-3 mm with a MR based workflow. The main contributing factor to this improvement is the exclusion of registration between MR and CT in the planning phase of the treatment.
