  • Immunoglobulin-A producing probably primary lymphoma of the breast
  • 1983
  • Ingår i: Virchows Archiv. - 1432-2307. ; 399:3, s. 355-360
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A breast tumour from a 65-year old woman was found to be a primary non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a very rare primary malignancy in this location. The lymphoma was of a diffuse histiocytic type according to the classification of Rappaport, or polymorphic immunocytoma according to the Kiel classification. Immunohistochemistry, not previously reported for breast lymphomas, revealed the production of IgA. In the serum this appeared as an IgA M-component which was greatly reduced after tumour removal. Immunological properties of primary breast lymphomas are reviewed, we suggest further extended studies with the immunohistochemical use of marker substances for the evaluation of prognosis. © 1983 Springer-Verlag.

  • Uptake of thymidine in lymphoma cells obtained through fine-needle aspiration biopsy. Relation to prognosis in non-hodgkin's lymphomas
  • 1981
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Cancer and Clinical Oncology. - 0277-5379. ; 17:11, s. 1229-1233
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In vitro uptake of tritiated thymidine was studied in autoradiographic preparations of lymphoma cell suspensions obtained through fine-needle aspiration biopsy from 28 patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The labelling indices (LI ) were highest in patients with histiocytic or poorly differentiated lymphocytic lymphoma. During a two-year period there was a significant correlation between LI and survival, i.e., high LI were associated with a poor prognosis. The results indicate that, in addition to morphology, estimation of the proliferative activity of lymphoma cells may be of clinical significance. © 1981, Pergamon Press Ltd.. All rights reserved.

  • Automated inductively-coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry based on a sequential reading monochromator
  • 1981
  • Ingår i: Analytica Chimica Acta : Computer Techniques and Optimization. - 0378-4304. ; 133:3, s. 379-392
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An automated computer-controlled sequential reading monochromator system for optical emission spectrometry with an inductively-coupled plasma as source is described. The system selects the set of emission lines which are best suited for each type of sample. Multi-element analysis of major and trace elements is done automatically, including sample changing, calibration, background correction and presentation of results.

  • Fine needle aspiration biopsy: A useful tool in tumor cytogenetics with special reference to malignant lymphomas
  • 1981
  • Ingår i: Cancer Genetics and Cytogenetics. - 2210-7762. ; 4:1, s. 53-60
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A method for chromosome analysis of malignant cells by means of fine needle aspiration biopsy has been developed. The method has some obvious advantages compared to conventional surgical biopsy. During a 1-year period 25 consecutive non-Hodgkin, non-Burkitt lymphoma biopsies from 19 patients have been studied. In 14 out of 21 lymph node biopsies chromosome analysis was successful; whereas, four biopsies of subcutaneous lymphomas were unsuccessful. © 1981.

  • Metabolic Activity of Lymphoma Cells and Clinical Course in Non‐Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL)
  • 1981
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Haematology. - : Wiley. - 1600-0609 .- 0036-553X. ; 27:5, s. 305-310
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • By microcalorimetry the metabolic activity of malignant cells from 21 patients with non‐Hodgkin lymphoma was monitored. Heat production, a measure of the metabolic activity of cells, showed positive correlation with the clinical‐course of the disease. The heat produced by tumor cells from patients with progressive disease was 5.5 pW/cell, while that from patients responding to treatment was 3.1 pW/cell. The difference between the 2 groups is significant (P <0.05). A higher heat production was obtained in tumor cells from 7 out of 10 patients who were unresponsive to the therapy when compared with cells from 11 patients who had become asymptomatic as a result of the same therapy. Also heat production from blood lymphocytes was found to be higher (P <0.005) in the group of patients with progressive disease as compared to the group of patients who responded to therapy. The present results indicate an association between high heat production in lymphoma cells and blood lymphocytes and a poor prognosis. © Munksgaard 1981

  • Sex Ratio in Offspring of Patients with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
  • 1982
  • Ingår i: New England Journal of Medicine. - 0028-4793. ; 306:6, s. 367-368
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To the Editor: In a letter in the November 5 issue, Alperovitch and Feingold reported an increased sex ratio (male:female) among children of women with multiple sclerosis.1 We have observed a remarkably decreased sex ratio in the offspring of young adults with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. We recorded the sex of the children of 197 patients with this disease who were participating in an epidemiologic study and obtained the same information from a control group of 240 patients without any evident malignant disease. Interviewing the control patients established that they had mainly cardiovascular or respiratory disorders. The results of this study are. © 1982, Massachusetts Medical Society. All rights reserved.

  • Human malignant melanoma heterotransplanted to nude mice
  • 1981
  • Ingår i: Neoplasma. ; 28:5, s. 585-591
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Five different human malignant melanoma were heterotransplanted subcutaneously to nude mice. When small tissue pieces were used 3 out of 5 tumors grew. Subcutaneous injections of suspended tumor cells were also made, but all failed to take. Metastatic or infiltrative growth was never seen in the mice observed for up to 2.5 months. The successful grafts largely retained the original morphological features. The three successfully transplanted tumors could all be serially transfered with 100% tumor take. In one case passage time was reduced from 40 days to 15 days. As measured with 3H-thymidine incorporation the proliferation rate increased during the passages. These changes might be due to a selection of more rapidly growing tumor cells in the nudes.
