  • Fågelbacken och trattbägarsamhället : samhällsorganisation och rituella samlingsplatser vid övergången till en bofats tillvaro i östra Mellansverige
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Tor. - Uppsala : Tor. - 0495-8772. ; 27, s. 47-132
  • Tidskriftsartikel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • A discussion of the TRB cultural landscape and form of society is attempted on the basis of the excavation of an Early Neolithic Funnel-beaker settlement site at Fågelbacken in eastern central Sweden. The site, situated on top of an esker, is characterized by finds of TRB pottery, quartz and flint debitage, pits with charred human bones, a cultbuilding and D-shaped huts. As a result of intra-site spatial analysis, ceramic analysis and a discussion of the site features, it is suggested that Fågelbacken should be interpreted not only as a coastal hunting site but also as a repeatedly visited, communal ritual site. A spatial analysis of thin-butted axes in the area surrounding the site, suggests that it is probably one of a whole series of similar, evenly spaced, ritual sites in the area. A sociocultural interpretation of Funnel-beaker huts and houses, together with an analysis of the distribution of stray finds of TRB type in the research area, further suggests that coastal sites like Fågelbacken are structurally related to groups of swidden-agriculture farmsteads and hunting stations in the interior.

  • Optical arrangement
  • 1999
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • A solid-state laser or arrangement for wavelength conversion is disclosed, which in its simplest embodiment is comprised of a light-generating body (102) arranged in a supporting means (103), the light-generating body (102) having a shape which is substantially complementary to a guiding structure (104) which is formed in the supporting means (103). The guiding structure (104) is formed with a high degree of accuracy, for instance, by etching the supporting means (103) or by replicating an original. Between the light-generating body (102) and the guiding structure (104) of the supporting means a thin contact layer (105) is arranged, the purpose of which is to increase the adherence to and/or the heat transfer to the supporting means (103). Due to the fact that the contact layer (105) is a deformable material, possible discrepancies as regards complementarity between the guiding structure (104) and the light-generating body (102) will be filled by the contact layer (105), whereby a close fit is obtained between the complementary structures.

  • Expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptors (Flt-1 and Flk-1) following permanent and transient occlusion of the middle cerebral artery in the rat.
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Journal of neuropathology and experimental neurology. - 0022-3069 .- 1554-6578. ; 57:9, s. 874-82
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a known endothelial mitogen and a potent enhancer of vascular permeability although its role in focal cerebral ischemia is still not completely understood. The present report describes the immunohistochemical distribution of VEGF and its 2 receptors, Flt-1 and Flk-1 at day 1 and 3 following permanent and transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) in the rat. A bilateral increase in VEGF immunoreactivity, particularly in neurons and blood vessels, was seen in both the experimental designs by day 1. By day 3, the immunoreactivity was restricted chiefly to the lesion side, where reaction was most prominent in the border zones of the infarcts. Immunoreaction to VEGF was more pronounced in cases of permanent MCAO than in transient MCAO. Flt-1 reaction was increased in neurons, glial and endothelial cells after both transient and permanent MCAO. Immunoreactivity to Flk-1 was prominent in glial cells and was present to some extent in endothelial cells. These findings indicate an early upregulation of VEGF and its receptors after permanent as well as transient focal cerebral ischemia in the rat.
