- Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs) are two series of tricyclic, almost planar aromatic compounds that exhibit very similar physical, chemical, and biological properties. The human exposure to PCDDs and PCDFs by milk consumption is not negligible. Detection levels in ecological and human samples should be orders of magnitude below the usual detection levels obtained in pesticide analyses. One objective of the study is to identify background levels of PCDDs and PCDFs in these samples, especially those of human origin. The spectrum of toxic effects is species dependent but for humans they include chloracne and porphyria cutane tarda and for other animals edema, thymic atrophy, teratogenicity, liver lesions and a slow wasting syndrome followed by death. It is evident that it is of particular importance to identify the ultimate source or sources of the toxic 2,3,7,8-substituted PCDDs and PCDFs found as background constituents in the environmental and human samples, especially the samples of mother's milk, which are of toxicological interest.

- The hydrophilic nonapeptide Ser-Asp-Ala-Arg-Glu-Asn-Ile-Gln-Arg, identical with residues 59-67 of human amyloid protein A (AA) and serum amyloid protein A (SAA), was covalently bound via its carboxyl-terminal end to the carrier-protein keyhole limpet haemocyanin. The complex was injected subcutaneously into ten rabbits. All rabbits produced antisera which, unabsorbed, were specific for AA and SAA. The antisera and their isolated peptide specific antibodies were performance-tested and found to be excellent for demonstration of AA and SAA in immunoblotting and immunohistochemical techniques but unsuitable for immunoprecipitation. Since it is difficult to produce AA- and SAA-specific antisera by procedures earlier described and commercial supplies of good such reagents are unavailable, the easy production of sequence-specific such antisera will facilitate more extended studies of the corresponding antigens for diagnostic and scientific purposes.

- Three different hot-wire techniques for the determination of the Reynolds stress tensor sre compared in a two-dimensional flat plate boundary layer. The considered hot-wire techniques are the method of rotated-, single-, cross- and triple-wire. From the measurements it can be concluded that the –puv shear stress and pw2 normal stress can be determined fairly well with all three methods. However, deviations occur in the pv2 normal stress. It is also shown that these deviations may partly be explained by the energy content between 5-10 kHz of the pv2 normal stress.

- This paper presents a review of film cooling. Emphasize is put on the fundamental processes, i.e. influence from three dimensional effects, free-stream turbulence, pressure gradients and surface curvature are discussed. Furthermore the effect of free-stream turbulence on the heat transfer in the stagnation region of a circular cylinder is presented together with an investigation of influence from suction or blowing on the coherent structures is a turbulent boundary layer.
