  • Increasing the Understanding of Effectiveness in Software Inspections Using Published Data Sets
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Journal of Research and Practice in Information Technology. - 1443-458X. ; 37:3, s. 51-64
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Since its inception into software engineering software inspection has been viewed as a cost-effective way of increasing software quality. Despite this many questions remain unanswered regarding, for example, ideal team size or cost effectiveness. This paper addresses some of these questions by performing an analysis using 30 published data sets from empirical experiments of software inspections. The main question is concerned with determining a suitable team size for software inspections. The effectiveness of different team sizes is also studied. Furthermore, the differences in mean effectiveness between different team sizes are investigated based on the inspection environmental context, document types and reading technique. It is concluded that it is possible to choose a suitable team size based on the effectiveness of inspections. This can be used as a tool to assist in the planning of inspections. A particularly interesting result is that variation in the effectiveness between different teams is considerably higher for certain types of documents than for others. Our findings contain important information for anyone planning, controlling or managing software inspections.

  • Robot assisted framing : A concept for securing geometry in flexible production
  • 2008
  • Rapport (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper describes a concept for securing the geometry in flexible production based on robot assisted framing. This uses the robot(s) as an active device during change-over between product variants and it is assumed that product variants can be produced in any mixed order. The case under study is cabs for trucks which in traditional production require large and heavy equipment which is above the payload of any robot. The idea within this study is to use carbon fibre composites in the fixtures in order to reduce the weight and through this make it possible to use the robots in assisting the framing process. The current work involves a generalization of the principle both considering the design of the fixtures with respect to issues such as materials properties and design principles, and design of the production system.

  • Tumour necrosis factor blockers do not increase overall tumour risk in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, but may be associated with an increased risk of lymphomas
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases. - : BMJ. - 1468-2060 .- 0003-4967. ; 64:5, s. 699-703
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To determine whether TNF blockers increase tumour risk in patients with RA. Material and methods: The South Swedish Arthritis Treatment Group register (SSATG) comprises over 90% of anti-TNF treated patients with RA in the area. 757 patients treated with etanercept or infliximab included between 1 February 1999 and 31 December 2002 were identified. 800 patients with conventional antirheumatic treatment in a community based cohort served as a comparison cohort. Tumours and deaths were identified in the cancer registry and population census registers. Patients were followed up from initiation of anti-TNF treatment or 1 July 1997 for the comparison group, until death or 31 December 2002. Results: In the anti-TNF group, 16 tumours ( 5 lymphomas) were identified in 1603 person-years at risk, and in the comparison group 69 tumours ( 2 lymphomas) in 3948 person-years. Standardised incidence ratios (SIRs) for total tumour relative risk for the anti-TNF group and the comparison group were 1.1 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.6 to 1.8) and 1.4 ( 95% CI 1.1 to 1.8), respectively. The lymphoma relative risk (RR) was 11.5 ( 95% CI 3.7 to 26.9) and 1.3 ( 95% CI 0.2 to 4.5), respectively The total tumour RR excluding lymphoma was 0.79 ( 95% CI 0.4 to 1.42) and 1.39 ( 95% CI 1.08 to 1.76), respectively. Proportional hazard analysis for lymphomas yielded RR 4.9 ( 95% CI 0.9 to 26.2) in anti-TNF treated versus untreated patients. Conclusion: Community based patients with RA treated conventionally had an increased overall tumour risk compared with the background population. A possible additional increased risk for lymphoma associated with TNF blockers was based on few cases and needs confirmation.

  • Women with palmoplantar pustulosis have disturbed calcium homeostasis and a high prevalence of diabetes mellitus and psychiatric disorders : a case-control study
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Acta Dermato-Venereologica. - : Medical Journals Sweden AB. - 0001-5555 .- 1651-2057. ; 85:3, s. 225-232
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Palmoplantar pustulosis is characterized by pustule formation in the acrosyringium. Nearly 50% of palmoplantar pustulosis sera produce immunofluorescence of the palmar papillary endothelium from healthy subjects, but also of the endothelium of normal parathyroid gland. With a case-control design the levels of calcium and parathyroid hormone in serum were measured in 60 women with palmoplantar pustulosis and 154 randomly selected population-based control women. One-third of the controls had been smokers, whereas 95% of the cases were or had been smokers. Mean age-adjusted serum calcium was increased in the patients compared with the controls (2.43 vs 2.36 mmol/l; p<0.0001), whereas the parathyroid hormone concentration was suppressed (23.2 vs 31.1 ng/l; p<0.0001). The plasma levels of parathyroid hormone-related protein were normal in patients but there was a strong expression of this protein in the acrosyringium both in palmoplantar pustulosis and control skin. As even a marginal elevation of serum calcium is associated with an increased risk for diabetes, cardiovascular disease and psychiatric disease, we analysed the risk for these disorders in palmoplantar pustulosis patients compared with that in the control group. Both diabetes mellitus and psychiatric disorders were associated with palmoplantar pustulosis with an odds ratio of 8.7 (95% CI 3.3-22.8) and 5.6 (95% CI 2.2-14.4), respectively. Palmoplantar pustulosis is a complex disease with an increased risk for several non-dermatological disorders. The role of the mildly increased serum calcium for the high risk for diabetes and depression deserves to be studied.

  • Protection from nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)-induced gastric ulcers by dietary nitrate
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Free Radical Biology & Medicine. - : Elsevier BV. - 0891-5849 .- 1873-4596. ; 42:4, s. 510-518
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nitrate is abundant in our diet with particularly high levels in many vegetables. Ingested nitrate is concentrated in saliva and reduced to nitrite by bacteria in the oral cavity. We recently reported that application of nitrite-containing saliva to the gastric mucosa increases superficial blood flow and mucus generation via acid-catalyzed formation of bioactive nitrogen oxides including nitric oxide. Here we studied if dietary supplementation with nitrate would protect against gastric damage caused by a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Rats received sodium nitrate in the drinking water for 1 week in daily doses of 0.1 or 1 mmol kg− 1. Control rats received 1 mmol kg− 1 sodium chloride. Diclofenac (30 mg kg− 1) was then given orally and the animals were examined 4 h later. In separate experiments we studied the effects of dietary nitrate on intragastric NO levels and mucus formation. Luminal levels of NO gas were greatly increased in nitrate-fed animals. The thickness of the mucus layer increased after nitrate supplementation and gene expression of MUC6 was upregulated in the gastric mucosa. Nitrate pretreatment dose dependently and potently reduced diclofenac-induced gastric lesions. Inflammatory activity was reduced in the rats receiving nitrate as indicated by lower mucosal myeloperoxidase activity and expression of inducible NO synthase. We conclude that dietary nitrate protects against diclofenac-induced gastric ulcers likely via enhanced nitrite-dependent intragastric NO formation and concomitant stimulation of mucus formation. Future studies will reveal if a diet rich in nitrate can offer an additional nutritional approach to preventing and treating peptic ulcer disease.

  • Clinical diagnoses and MRI findings in patients with TMD pain
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Journal of Oral Rehabilitation. - : Wiley-Blackwell. - 1365-2842 .- 0305-182X. ; 34:4, s. 237-245
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this study was to correlate clinical diagnoses in temporomandibular disorders patients suffering from pain diagnosed as arthralgia/osteoarthritis or myofascial pain according to the Research Diagnostic Criteria for temporomandibular disorders with findings made on magnetic resonance imaging. The temporomandibular joints of 60 consecutive patients, 41 with arthralgia/osteoarthritis and 19 with myofascial pain, were examined clinically and with magnetic resonance imaging. The most common magnetic resonance imaging findings were disc displacements and structural bone changes, which were found in both pain groups. However, disc displacements were found significantly (p = 0.002) more often in the arthralgia/osteoarthritis group. 104 joints were found to have no clinical diagnosis of disc displacements, but 64 of these joints had findings of disc displacements on magnetic resonance imaging. Joint fluid was found both in the arthralgia/osteoarthritis group (20 patients) and in the myofascial pain group (5 patients). Patients having a combination of disc displacement and joint fluid were significantly (p = 0.047) more common in the arthralgia/osteoarthritis group. In conclusion, the magnetic resonance imaging findings of disc displacement and structural bone changes were common in temporomandibular disorders patients with pain of both myogenous and arthrogenous origin. The clinical diagnoses for subdivision into myogenous and arthrogenous pain groups were not confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging.
