  • Specific combinations of SR proteins associate with single pre-messenger RNAs in vivo and contribute different functions
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Journal of Cell Biology. - : Rockefeller University Press. - 0021-9525 .- 1540-8140. ; 184:4, s. 555-568
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Serine/arginine-rich (SR) proteins are required for messenger RNA (mRNA) processing, export, surveillance, and translation. We show that in Chironomus tentans, nascent transcripts associate with multiple types of SR proteins in specific combinations. Alternative splicing factor (ASF)/SF2, SC35, 9G8, and hrp45/SRp55 are all present in Balbiani ring (BR) pre-messenger ribonucleoproteins (mRNPs) preferentially when introns appear in the pre-mRNA and when cotranscriptional splicing takes place. However, hrp45/SRp55 is distributed differently in the pre-mRNPs along the gene compared with ASF/SF2, SC35, and 9G8, suggesting functional differences. All four SR proteins are associated with the BR mRNPs during export to the cytoplasm. Interference with SC35 indicates that SC35 is important for the coordination of splicing, transcription, and 3' end processing and also for nucleocytoplasmic export. ASF/SF2 is associated with polyribosomes, whereas SC35, 9G8, and hrp45/SRp55 cosediment with mono-ribosomes. Thus, individual endogenous pre-mRNPs/mRNPs bind multiple types of SR proteins during transcription, and these SR proteins accompany the mRNA and play different roles during the gene expression pathway in vivo.

  • A Mobile Maintenance Decision Support System
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Maintenance and Asset Management Journal. - 1748-5290. ; 23:2, s. 42-48
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The development is reported of an e-maintenance system, ie a mobile maintenance decision supportsystem based on web and mobile technologies. The problem of the lack of experts to troubleshoot a fault ina machine is a long-standing one. It has led to the application of artificial intelligence and, later, distributedartificial intelligence for machine condition monitoring and diagnosis. Recently, web technology, alongwith wireless communication, is emerging as a potential tool in maintenance, facilitating acquisition ofthe desired information by the relevant personnel at any time, wherever they may be. It has been foundthat with the emergence of the new Information and Communications Technology (ICT) new conceptshave started to appear, such as e-manufacturing, e-business and e-maintenance. The paper begins byshowing the Web and Mobile architecture and then the ICT tools that are used for communication amongthe different layers of the system and the client machines. This is followed by a demonstration of the useof the system with a faulty bearing simulated signal. In addition, it is explained that a CMMS, ie a mobilework management system, has been tested, with successful results. Finally, it is shown how a mobileemulator was used to perfect the system for different requirements and how this was then tested on apersonal digital assistant (PDA).

  • A web and mobile device architecture for mobile e-maintenance
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology. - : Springer. - 0268-3768 .- 1433-3015. ; 45:1-2, s. 71-80
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper presents the development of a mobile maintenance support system based on web and mobile device technologies, i.e., personal digital assistant. The architecture relies on a shop floor system and a supporting system in a diagnostic center. The shop floor system is supported by a mobile device, which helps the maintenance engineer to perform maintenance tasks. This gives great support to the maintenance engineer as it facilitates the access to decision-making support, work order, and spare part handling modules etc. that are available in the device. The diagnostic center provides the maintenance engineer with decision support for his various tasks, when needed. Moreover, a database table listener agent, located at the database server, was developed to keep track of the maintenance engineer’s work orders at a certain priority level. The proposed approach can reduce the maintenance costs and solve the problem of the unavailability of an expert. More efficient maintenance is believed to be achieved through the use of web and agent technologies since data, maintenance systems, and processing can be gathered and integrated and data can be acquired from additional sources when necessary. The proposed system, the web, and embedded technologies as well as remote communication were tested successfully.
