  • Cloud-smart Musical Instrument Interactions : Querying a Large Music Collection with a Smart Guitar
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: ACM Transactions on Internet of Things. - : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). - 2577-6207 .- 2691-1914. ; 1:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Large online music databases under Creative Commons licenses are rarely recorded by well-known artists, therefore conventional metadata-based search is insufficient in their adaptation to instrument players' needs. The emerging class of smart musical instruments (SMIs) can address this challenge. Thanks to direct internet connectivity and embedded processing, SMIs can send requests to repositories and reproduce the response for improvisation, composition, or learning purposes. We present a smart guitar prototype that allows retrieving songs from large online music databases using criteria different from conventional music search, which were derived from interviewing 30 guitar players. We investigate three interaction methods coupled with four search criteria (tempo, chords, key and tuning) exploiting intelligent capabilities in the instrument: (i) keywords-based retrieval using an embedded touchscreen; (ii) cloud-computing where recorded content is transmitted to a server that extracts relevant audio features; (iii) edge-computing where the guitar detects audio features and sends the request directly. Overall, the evaluation of these methods with beginner, intermediate, and expert players showed a strong appreciation for the direct connectivity of the instrument with an online database and the approach to the search based on the actual musical content rather than conventional textual criteria, such as song title or artist name.

  • The spherical terrain correction and its effect on the gravimetric-isostatic Moho determination
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Geophysical Journal International. - : Oxford University Press. - 0956-540X .- 1365-246X .- 1687-885X .- 1687-8868. ; 204:1, s. 262-273
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this study, the Moho depth is estimated based on the refined spherical Bouguer gravity disturbance and DTM2006 topographic data using the Vening Meinesz-Moritz gravimetric-isostatic hypothesis. In this context, we compute the refined spherical Bouguer gravity disturbances in a set of 1 degrees x 1 degrees blocks. The spherical terrain correction, a residual correction to each Bouguer shell, is computed using rock heights and ice sheet thicknesses from the DTM2006 and Earth2014 models. The study illustrates that the defined simple Bouguer gravity disturbance corrected for the density variations of the oceans, ice sheets and sediment basins and also the non-isostatic effects needs a significant terrain correction to become the refined Bouguer gravity disturbance, and that the isostatic gravity disturbance is significantly better defined by the latter disturbance plus a compensation attraction. Our study shows that despite the fact that the lateral variation of the crustal depth is rather smooth, the terrain affects the result most significantly in many areas. The global numerical results show that the estimated Moho depths by the simple and refined spherical Bouguer gravity disturbances and the seismic CRUST1.0 model agree to 5.6 and 2.7 km in RMS, respectively. Also, the mean value differences are 1.7 and 0.2 km, respectively. Two regional numerical studies show that the RMS differences between the Moho depths estimated based on the simple and refined spherical Bouguer gravity disturbance and that using CRUST1.0 model yield fits of 4.9 and 3.2 km in South America and yield 3.2 and 3.4 km in Fennoscandia, respectively.

  • Study of thin oxide films by electron, ion and synchrotron radiation beams
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Microchimica Acta. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1436-5073 .- 0026-3672. ; 139:1-4, s. 165-169
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Titanium oxide and zirconium oxide thin films deposited on silicon substrates were characterised using electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS), time-of-flight elastic recoil detection analysis (TOF-ERDA) and scanning photoelectron microscopy (SPEM). The composition and mass thickness of the films were determined and the results of different methods compared. It was revealed that the synchrotron radiation used for SPEM studies caused considerable modification of zirconia films grown at low temperatures.

  • Haematological malignancies in patients with psoriatic arthritis overall and treated with TNF inhibitors : a Nordic cohort study
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: RMD Open. - : BMJ Publishing Group Ltd. - 2056-5933. ; 8:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objectives To evaluate the risk of haematological malignancies in patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) overall, and in relation to treatment with tumour necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFi).Methods We identified that patients with PsA starting a first TNFi from the clinical rheumatology registers (CRR) in the five Nordic countries (n=10 621) and biologics-naive PsA patients from (1) the CRR (n=18 705) and (2) the national patient registers (NPR, n=27 286, Sweden and Denmark) from 2006 through 2019. For Sweden and Denmark, general population comparators were matched 5:1 to PsA patients on birth year, year at start of follow-up and sex. By linkage to the national cancer registers in all countries, we collected information on haematological malignancies overall, and categorised into lymphoid or myeloid types. We estimated incidence rate ratios (IRRs) with 95% CIs using modified Poisson regression for TNFi-treated versus biologics-naive PsA patients and versus the general population adjusted for age, sex, calendar period and country. Results During 59 827 person-years, 40 haematological malignancies occurred among TNFi-treated patients with PsA resulting in a pooled IRR of 0.96 (0.68-1.35) versus biologics-naive PsA from CRR and an IRR of 0.84 (0.64-1.10) versus biologics-naive PsA from NPR. The IRR of haematological malignancies in PsA overall versus general population comparators was 1.35 (1.17-1.55). The estimates were largely similar for lymphoid and myeloid malignancies. Conclusions Treatment with TNFi in patients with PsA was not associated with an increased incidence of haematological malignancies. Conversely, a moderately increased underlying risk was seen in patients with PsA compared with the general population.

  • A new approach for predicting the extreme response of structures
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Applied Ocean Research. - 1879-1549. ; 24:6, s. 321-330
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this article a method to estimate the mean upcrossing intensity, mu(u), of a stochastic process is proposed. It is assumed that the stochastic process is a sum of a Gaussian process and a second-order correction term. The method is based on the two-dimensional Saddlepoint approximation. The accuracy of the method is tested on processes having analytical solutions for mu(u). Numerical examples are given where the stochastic process represents (i) the horizontal response of a floating offshore structure in a Gaussian sea, and (ii) the response of a structure subjected to a Gaussian wind velocity process. In addition, the estimates are compared to empirical upcrossing intensities of simulated responses. For case (ii), the obtained mu(u) estimates are compared to estimates obtained by numerical integration. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
