  • Outcomes after perioperative SARS-CoV-2 infection in patients with proximal femoral fractures: an international cohort study
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: BMJ open. - : BMJ. - 2044-6055. ; 11:11, s. e050830-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Studies have demonstrated high rates of mortality in people with proximal femoral fracture and SARS-CoV-2, but there is limited published data on the factors that influence mortality for clinicians to make informed treatment decisions. This study aims to report the 30-day mortality associated with perioperative infection of patients undergoing surgery for proximal femoral fractures and to examine the factors that influence mortality in a multivariate analysis.SettingProspective, international, multicentre, observational cohort study.ParticipantsPatients undergoing any operation for a proximal femoral fracture from 1 February to 30 April 2020 and with perioperative SARS-CoV-2 infection (either 7 days prior or 30-day postoperative).Primary outcome30-day mortality. Multivariate modelling was performed to identify factors associated with 30-day mortality.ResultsThis study reports included 1063 patients from 174 hospitals in 19 countries. Overall 30-day mortality was 29.4% (313/1063). In an adjusted model, 30-day mortality was associated with male gender (OR 2.29, 95% CI 1.68 to 3.13, p<0.001), age >80 years (OR 1.60, 95% CI 1.1 to 2.31, p=0.013), preoperative diagnosis of dementia (OR 1.57, 95% CI 1.15 to 2.16, p=0.005), kidney disease (OR 1.73, 95% CI 1.18 to 2.55, p=0.005) and congestive heart failure (OR 1.62, 95% CI 1.06 to 2.48, p=0.025). Mortality at 30 days was lower in patients with a preoperative diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 (OR 0.6, 95% CI 0.6 (0.42 to 0.85), p=0.004). There was no difference in mortality in patients with an increase to delay in surgery (p=0.220) or type of anaesthetic given (p=0.787).ConclusionsPatients undergoing surgery for a proximal femoral fracture with a perioperative infection of SARS-CoV-2 have a high rate of mortality. This study would support the need for providing these patients with individualised medical and anaesthetic care, including medical optimisation before theatre. Careful preoperative counselling is needed for those with a proximal femoral fracture and SARS-CoV-2, especially those in the highest risk groups.Trial registration numberNCT04323644

  • A rare case of retropharyngeal liposarcoma : a rare location of a rare diagnosis
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Surgical Case Reports. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 2042-8812. ; 2023:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report a case of retropharyngeal liposarcoma in a 53-year-old female, who had complaints of neck swelling accompanied with dysphagia, orthopnea and dysphonia. Clinical examination revealed huge multinodular swelling in front of neck with bilateral extension, more prominent on left side and moving with deglutition. The diagnosis of retropharyngeal liposarcoma was established following CT scan, MRI and incisional biopsy. Surgical excision of mass along with near total thyroidectomy was performed. Postoperative hospital stay was uneventful. She remained well in follow-up period of 1 year as well. In conclusion, retropharyngeal liposarcoma is a rare tumor. A review of the literature explores the reasons behind the late presentation as well as the difficulties in diagnosis and treatment of this rare tumor.

  • Social and moral psychology of COVID-19 across 69 countries
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Scientific Data. - : NATURE PORTFOLIO. - 2052-4463. ; 10:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all domains of human life, including the economic and social fabric of societies. One of the central strategies for managing public health throughout the pandemic has been through persuasive messaging and collective behaviour change. To help scholars better understand the social and moral psychology behind public health behaviour, we present a dataset comprising of 51,404 individuals from 69 countries. This dataset was collected for the International Collaboration on Social & Moral Psychology of COVID-19 project (ICSMP COVID-19). This social science survey invited participants around the world to complete a series of moral and psychological measures and public health attitudes about COVID-19 during an early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic (between April and June 2020). The survey included seven broad categories of questions: COVID-19 beliefs and compliance behaviours; identity and social attitudes; ideology; health and well-being; moral beliefs and motivation; personality traits; and demographic variables. We report both raw and cleaned data, along with all survey materials, data visualisations, and psychometric evaluations of key variables.

  • The Exploration of Cerium Metal Ions Effect on LaSrTiO3-d Ceramic Anode for Fuel Cell
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Russian Journal of Physical Chemistry. - : MAIK NAUKA/INTERPERIODICA/SPRINGER. - 0036-0244 .- 1531-863X. ; 97:11, s. 2592-2602
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Perovskite based materials have become an attractive anode for fuel cell due to the significant conductivity, carbon resistivity and sulphur tolerance. Doping of Ce on B-site of the La0.4Sr0.6CexTi1-xO3-delta (x = 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08) with different dopant concentrations is prepared using sol-gel technique. The synthesized material is analyzed by numerous techniques. X-ray diffraction confirmed the cubic perovskite structure (JCPDS 01-079-0183) with average crystallite size of 35 nm. UV-Vis spectroscopy revealed the red shift in band gap (2.76 eV) compared to LaSrTiO3-delta. Scanning electron microscopy shows the homogeneity 3-delta and porosity in the prepared material. The observed particle size is in the range of 50-60 nm. The presence of the lanthanum, strontium, cerium, titanium and oxygen ions is confirmed by EDX. The Raman spectra and XRD, confirmed that cerium ions have been diffused in the lattice structure of LSTO . The 3-delta La0.4Sr0.6Ce0.08Ti0.92O3-delta anode showed the highest conductivity of 2.67 S cm(-1) with lower activation energy 3-delta of 0.20 eV as compared to other three samples. The power density of 58 mW cm-2 at 600 degrees C with 0.9 V OCV is achieved for the composition La0.4Sr0.6Ce0.08Ti0.92O3-delta using sub-bituminous fuel. The observed results show that prepared material is potential ceramic anode for direct carbon fuel cell.

  • A Comprehensive Review on Thermal Coconversion of Biomass, Sludge, Coal, and Their Blends Using Thermogravimetric Analysis
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Chemistry. - : Hindawi Publishing Corporation. - 2090-9063 .- 2090-9071. ; 2020
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Lignocellulosic biomass is a vital resource for providing clean future energy with a sustainable environment. Besides lignocellulosic residues, nonlignocellulosic residues such as sewage sludge from industrial and municipal wastes are gained much attention due to its large quantities and ability to produce cheap and clean energy to potentially replace fossil fuels. These cheap and abundantly resources can reduce global warming owing to their less polluting nature. The low-quality biomass and high ash content of sewage sludge-based thermal conversion processes face several disadvantages towards its commercialization. Therefore, it is necessary to utilize these residues in combination with coal for improvement in energy conversion processes. As per author information, no concrete study is available to discuss the synergy and decomposition mechanism of residues blending. The objective of this study is to present the state-of-the-art review based on the thermal coconversion of biomass/sewage sludge, coal/biomass, and coal/sewage sludge blends through thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) to explore the synergistic effects of the composition, thermal conversion, and blending for bioenergy production. This paper will also contribute to detailing the operating conditions (heating rate, temperature, and residence time) of copyrolysis and cocombustion processes, properties, and chemical composition that may affect these processes and will provide a basis to improve the yield of biofuels from biomass/sewage sludge, coal/sewage sludge, and coal/biomass blends in thermal coconversion through thermogravimetric technique. Furthermore, the influencing factors and the possible decomposition mechanism are elaborated and discussed in detail. This study will provide recent development and future prospects for cothermal conversion of biomass, sewage, coal, and their blends.

  • Substantial performance of copper sulfide nanotubes at high current densities for energy storage applications
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of Energy Storage. - : Elsevier. - 2352-152X .- 2352-1538. ; 85
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study presents the direct growth of CuS nanotubes (NTs) on nickel foam using a facile solution synthesis route. The structural, elemental and morphological analyses of CuS NTs grown Ni foam were conducted through X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, and field emission scanning electron microscope. The electrochemical performance of the prepared electrodes was comprehensively characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge discharge and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The CuS NTs grown electrodes delivered a specific capacitance of 1539 Fg−1 at 1 mVs−1 and 1365 Fg−1 at 5 Ag−1, demonstrating a remarkable rate capability of 66 % at an extremely high current density of 25 Ag−1. Notably, the CuS NTs electrode demonstrated good cyclic stability, as evidenced by a charge retention of 75.5 % after 3000 cycles at a high current density of 20 Ag−1. The charge storage mechanism was predominantly diffusion controlled, accomplished by analyzing CV data. Overall, this work evinces that the as-synthesized CuS NTs hold a significant promise as electrode materials for high-performance electrochemical energy storage applications.
