- We present an efficient integrated device for SHG at telecom wavelengths in Hexagonally Poled LiNbO3, based on the reverse proton exchange waveguide technology. We discuss its nonlinear response in terms of power, wavelength and angle tunability and use the experimental SHG data to infer also information on the linear properties of the waveguide.

- We demonstrate twin-beam second-harmonic generation from telecommunications wavelengths in an optimized buried reverse proton exchanged planar waveguide made in 2D hexagonally poled LiNbO3. Experiments carried out with a nanosecond narrow-bandwidth, high-power fiber source thoroughly explored the response of the nonlinear photonic crystal device in terms of its power, wavelength, and angle tunability.

- We demonstrate the measurement of short pulses in the 1.55 μm telecommunications window by spectrally resolved cross correlation in an integrated LiNbO3 device. Extremely high quality pulse retrieval is obtained for pulsewidths down to 4 ps.

- We demonstrate the complete characterization of short pulses around 1.55 mu m by cross-correlation frequency-resolved optical gating based on sum-frequency generation in an integrated LiNbO3 device. Excellent retrieval is achieved for pulsewidths ranging from 30 to 4 ps.

- We investigate ultrashort-pulse interactions based on cascaded second-harmonic generation and difference-frequency generation and propose their use for frequency-resolved optical gating (FROG) at telecom wavelengths in a waveguide configuration. We show how a chi((2))-chi((2)) FROG device could allow the efficient characterization of ultrashort pulses, with time resolutions well beyond the limits normally imposed by walk-off effects on single-step chi((2)) FROG devices.
