  • Epitaxially regrown GaAs/AlGaAs laser mesas with semi-insulating GaInP : Fe and GaAs : Fe
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Journal of Electronic Materials. - 0361-5235 .- 1543-186X. ; 30:8, s. 987-991
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Selective regrowth of semi-insulating iron-doped Ga0.51In0.49P (SI-GaInP:Fe) and SI-GaAs:Fe around GaAs/AlGaAs mesas by hydride vapor phase epitaxy (HVPE) has been achieved. A HCl based in-situ cleaning procedure has been used to remove aluminum oxide from the etched walls of the mesas. Regrowth conducted without proper cleaning results in an irregular interface with voids. Regrowth morphology aspects are also presented. Our cleaning and regrowth methods have been used for fabricating GaAs/AlGaAs buried heterostructure in-plane lasers and vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers.

  • GaAs/AlGaAs buried-heterostructure vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser with semi-insulating GalnP : Fe regrowth
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Electronics Letters. - 0013-5194 .- 1350-911X. ; 36:18, s. 1542-1544
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The authors report the first results of a GaAs/AlGaAs buried-heterostructure vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) with semi-insulating Ga0.51In0.49P:Fe (SI-GaInP:Fe) as the burying layer. Regrowth of SI-GaInP:Fe around 15 mu m diameter and 8 mu m tall VCSEL mesas was carried out by hydride vapour phase epitaxy (HVPE). Under room temperature continuous wave (CW) operation. the device exhibited a threshold current of 3.5mA, a differential quantum efficency of 33% and a light output power of 4.2mW. CW operation at temperatures up to 97 degrees C is also demonstrated.

  • The effects of successful intervention on quality of life in patients with varying degrees of lower-limb ischaemia
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. - : Elsevier BV. - 1532-2165 .- 1078-5884. ; 19:3, s. 238-245
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVES: to assess the quality of life after successful intervention among patients with varying degrees of lower-limb ischaemia in comparison with healthy controls and the respondents>> degree of sense of coherence. MATERIALS AND METHODS: one hundred and twelve patients and 102 healthy controls were assessed for quality of life (Nottingham Health Profile) and sense of coherence. MAIN RESULTS: successful angioplasty or surgical intervention led to an improved quality of life at 6 months, in particular with regard to pain, sleep, physical mobility, hobbies and holiday and to a level similar to healthy controls in sleep, social isolation, paid employment and family relationships. It remained at a significantly lower level than that of healthy controls with regard to pain, emotional reactions, physical mobility, energy, housework, hobbies, holidays, sex and social life. Critical ischaemia patients did not reach the same level of quality of life as the claudicants or the healthy controls. CONCLUSION: successful treatment for chronic limb ischaemia improved the quality of life significantly, more so in claudicants than in patients with critical ischaemia. The degree to which the quality of life improved was associated with the patients>> sense of coherence and their ankle pressure.

  • Ataxia-telangiectasia kartlagd i Sverige
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Läkartidningen. - 0023-7205. ; 97:40, s. 4461-4467
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ataxia-telangiectasia (AT) is a rare autosomal recessive disease with a complex phenotype involving cerebellar degeneration, immunodeficiency, cancer risk and radiosensitivity. Our aim has been to identify Swedish AT patients in order to study the possible "Swedish phenotype" of the disease. In the 19 patients identified in Sweden we found a phenotype fairly similar to what has been described internationally, with the exception of some differences including lower cancer incidence in patients and their relatives and somewhat more pronounced immunodeficiency and concomitant susceptibility to infections.

  • [Expressions of thymidine phosphorylase, thymidylate synthase and dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase in breast cancer and their correlations with prognosis]
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Zhonghua zhong liu za zhi [Chinese journal of oncology]. - Beijing, China : Zhongguo Yixue Kexueyuan / Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. - 0253-3766. ; 26:11, s. 669-672
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To study the expression of thymidine phosphorylase (TP), thymidylate synthase (TS) and dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) mRNA in breast cancer and its correlation with prognosis. Methods: Expression levels of TP, TS and DPD mRNA in 86 micro-selected breast cancer tissues and 9 normal breast tissues were detected by real-time quantitative PCR.Results: The median expression levels of TP, TS and DPD mRNA in tumor tissue and in normal tissues were 16.54, 0.38, 2.47 and 11.75, 0.25, 8.33, respectively, there were no significant differences (P >0.05). The expression levels of TP, TS and DPD mRNA showed no association with tumor size, lymph node metastasis, pathological grade and clinical stage, except that of DPD showed a negative association with patients' ages. There was no significant difference in disease-free survival or overall survival between the patients with high and low TP or DPD mRNA levels. Disease-free survival tends to be better in the patients with low TS mRNA level than those with high TS mRNA, but the difference was not significant (P=0.069), while the overall survival showed a statistically difference (59.00 month and 70.30 month) (P=0.0496).Conclusion: The expression level of TS mRNA may serve as a prognostic marker for breast cancer patients.
