  • Cobalt oxide magnetic nanoparticles-chitosan nanocomposite based electrochemical urea biosensor
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Indian Journal of Physics. - : Springer Verlag (Germany). - 0973-1458 .- 0974-9845. ; 89:4, s. 331-336
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this study, a potentiometric urea biosensor has been fabricated on glass filter paper through the immobilization of urease enzyme onto chitosan/cobalt oxide (CS/Co3O4) nanocomposite. A copper wire with diameter of 500 mu m is attached with nanoparticles to extract the voltage output signal. The shape and dimensions of Co3O4 magnetic nanoparticles are investigated by scanning electron microscopy and the average diameter is approximately 80-100 nm. Structural quality of Co3O4 nanoparticles is confirmed from X-ray powder diffraction measurements, while the Raman spectroscopy has been used to understand the chemical bonding between different atoms. The magnetic measurement has confirmed that Co3O4 nanoparticles show ferromagnetic behavior, which could be attributed to the uncompensated surface spins and/or finite size effects. The ferromagnetic order of Co3O4 nanoparticles is raised with increasing the decomposition temperature. A physical adsorption method is adopted to immobilize the surface of CS/Co3O4 nanocomposite. Potentiometric sensitivity curve has been measured over the concentration range between 1 x 10(-4) and 8 x 10(-2) M of urea electrolyte solution revealing that the fabricated biosensor holds good sensing ability with a linear slope curve of similar to 45 mV/decade. In addition, the presented biosensor shows good reusability, selectivity, reproducibility and resistance against interferers along with the stable output response of similar to 12 s.

  • Studies of preferences as an extra dimension in system studies
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: World Renewable Energy Congress – Sweden, 8–13 May, 2011Linköping, Sweden. - Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press. - 9789173930703 ; , s. 1732-1739
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Industrial energy systems are complicated networks where changes in one process influence itsneighboring processes. The network complexity increases if production/use of bio fuel is introduced in anexisting system. Process integration can be a useful tool to study such systems and thus avoid sub optimization. However, changes in an industrial complex do not only influence the technical values of energy and materialefficiency. The social impact is also important and sometimes is comparable to that of technical factors.A process integration project has recently been carried out for a paper mill in northern Sweden with a side viewon future expansion with a bio refinery. An activity to study the social impacts were included through a Conjointanalysis, a stated preference method that combines statistics and interviewing technique. The results indicate that the participants are divided in four groups, the largest group focusing on a change in theprocess towards a bio refinery, the second largest focusing on the local environment. The third and fourth groupboth look at the local forestry, one group wanting to increase local forest production, and one rejecting anincrease.

  • CFM : A file manager with multiple categorization support
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: SEKE 2010 - Proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering. - 1891706268 - 9781891706264 ; , s. 748-751
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper introduces a new file manager to support multiple categorization. The proposed file manager is designed based on a subtle idea named Conceptual File Management (CFM). According to this approach, files are not contained by folders; nevertheless, each file can be a member of one or more folders (concepts). A prototype file manager is designed and implemented based on the new approach. Filtering by set operations and also manual concept selection improves retrieval of the files. CFM improves file system's clarity and avoids ambiguity and redundancy. As a result, it reduces the size of file system and enhances file access.

  • Unimodal Bandits with Continuous Arms : Order-optimal Regret without Smoothness
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Performance Evaluation Review. - : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). - 0163-5999 .- 1557-9484. ; 48:1, s. 107-108
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We consider stochastic bandit problems with a continuous set of arms and where the expected reward is a continuous and unimodal function of the arm. For these problems, we propose the Stochastic Polychotomy (SP) algorithms, and derive finite-time upper bounds on their regret and optimization error. We show that, for a class of reward functions, the SP algorithm achieves a regret and an optimization error with optimal scalings, i.e., O( g T ) and O(1/ g T ) (up to a logarithmic factor), respectively.

  • Sex differences in the genetic predictors of Alzheimer's pathology
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Brain. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0006-8950 .- 1460-2156. ; 142, s. 2581-2589
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Autopsy measures of Alzheimer's disease neuropathology have been leveraged as endophenotypes in previous genome-wide association studies (GWAS). However, despite evidence of sex differences in Alzheimer's disease risk, sex-stratified models have not been incorporated into previous GWAS analyses. We looked for sex-specific genetic associations with Alzheimer's disease endophenotypes from six brain bank data repositories. The pooled dataset included 2701 males and 3275 females, the majority of whom were diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease at autopsy (70%). Sex-stratified GWAS were performed within each dataset and then meta-analysed. Loci that reached genome-wide significance (P < 5 x 10(-8)) in stratified models were further assessed for sex interactions. Additional analyses were performed in independent datasets leveraging cognitive, neuroimaging and CSF endophenotypes, along with age-at-onset data. Outside of the APOE region, one locus on chromosome 7 (rs34331204) showed a sex-specific association with neurofibrillary tangles among males (P = 2.5 x 10(-8)) but not females (P = 0.85, sex-interaction P = 2.9 x 10(-4)). In follow-up analyses, rs34331204 was also associated with hippocampal volume, executive function, and age-at-onset only among males. These results implicate a novel locus that confers male-specific protection from tau pathology and highlight the value of assessing genetic associations in a sex-specific manner.
