  • Charged particle multiplicity and pseudorapidity density distributions in 16O-, 28Si- and 197Au-induced nuclear interactions at 14.6 and 11.6A GeV/c
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics, Section A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0375-9474. ; 593:4, s. 535-549
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Pseudorapidity density and multiplicity distributions of charged particles produced in heavy-ion collisions at the BNL AGS have been studied. The multiplicity distributions and pseudorapidity distributions of shower particles in Au-induced interactions are presented and compared with model predictions from RQMD, FRITIOF and VENUS. It is shown that the widths of the pseudorapidity distributions of produced particles in central collisions are independent of the interacting system. The results from EMU01 have been compared, and found to agree, with the results from two other heavy-ion experiments, E802 and E814.

  • Estimation of continuous-time AR process parameters from discrete-time data
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing. - : IEEE. - 1053-587X .- 1941-0476. ; 47:5, s. 1232-1244
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The problem of estimating continuous-time autoregressive process parameters from discrete-time data is considered. The basic approach used here is based on replacing the derivatives in the model by discrete-time differences, forming a linear regression, and using the least squares method. Such a procedure is simple to apply, computationally flexible and efficient, and may have good numerical properties. It is known, however, that all standard approximations of the highest order derivative, such as repeated use of the delta operator, gives a biased least squares estimate, even as the sampling interval tends to zero. Some of our previous approaches to overcome this problem are reviewed. Then. two new methods, which avoid the shift in our previous results, are presented. One of them, which is termed bias compensation, is computationally very efficient. Finally, the relationship of the above least squares approaches with an instrumental variable method is investigated. Comparative simulation results are also presented

  • Ligand-independent repression by the thyroid hormone receptor mediated by a nuclear receptor co-repressor
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Nature. - : Nature Publishing Group. - 0028-0836 .- 1476-4687. ; 377:6548, s. 397-404
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Thyroid-hormone and retinoic-acid receptors exert their regulatory functions by acting as both activators and repressors of gene expression. A nuclear receptor co-repressor (N-CoR) of relative molecular mass 270K has been identified which mediates ligand-independent inhibition of gene transcription by these receptors, suggesting that the molecular mechanisms of repression by thyroid-hormone and retinoic-acid receptors are analogous to the co-repressor-dependent transcriptional inhibitory mechanisms of yeast and Drosophila.

  • Overstimulation of nerve growth factors in postinfectious and autoimmune diseases
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Pediatric Neurology. - Univ Helsinki, Childrens Hosp, Helsinki, Finland. Uppsala Univ, Ctr Biomed, Dept Dev Neurosci, Uppsala, Sweden. : Elsevier. - 0887-8994 .- 1873-5150. ; 18:3, s. 231-235
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nerve growth factor (NGF) in cerebrospinal fluid was measured by ELISA in ten children with postinfectious diseases and in five children with diseases suggested to be of autoimmune etiology, Three groups of patients were studied: (1) those with moderately elevated concentrations (50.67 +/- 17.02 pg/mL, mean and SEM), (2) those with high concentrations (mean 424.25 +/- 125.41 pg/mL, mean and SEM), and (3) those with enormously high concentrations (mean 2,745 +/- 1,819.46 pg/mL, mean and SEM). We suggest that CSF-NGF could be used as an immunologic marker of an ongoing CNS process, Uncontrolled signaling of NGF receptors may lead to long-term inflammatory and autoimmune responses, which in turn can lead to disease.
