  • Estimation of the long-range transport contribution from secondary inorganic components to urban background PM10 concentrations in south-western Sweden during 1986-2010
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Atmospheric Environment. - : Elsevier BV. - 1352-2310. ; 89, s. 93-101
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The contribution of long-range transported (LRT) to urban background PM10 concentrations was investigated from a long-term view from 1986 to 2010. Regional air concentrations of sulphate (SO42-), nitrate (NO3-), and ammonium (NH4+) were used as a sum (C-ion) to investigate the contribution from these ions to the LRT PM10 concentrations at an urban background site in Gothenburg, Sweden. Utilizing backwards trajectory analysis, the LRT contribution from C-ion to the urban background PM10 concentrations (LRTCion) was estimated for six unique transport pathways and related source areas. Air masses transported over eastern Europe, UK/North Sea/Denmark and the vicinity of Scandinavia were associated with high C-ion concentrations observed in Gothenburg. For each pathway, multiple linear models based on the C-ion concentrations were used to estimate LRTCion and PM10 at the urban background site. The performances of the multiple linear models were satisfying with R-2 between estimated and observed annual mean PM10 concentrations of 0.81 during the monitoring years 1990-2010. The models were able to describe the main features of the day-to-day average PM10 concentrations, but underestimated high level values. The annual estimated LRTCion contribution decreased from 7 +/- 2 mu g/m(3) for 1986-2000 to 5 +/- 1 mu g/m(3) for 2001-2010. The higher LRTCion contribution was related to the transport cluster from eastern Europe, UK/North Sea/Denmark and the vicinity of South Scandinavia. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

  • An IPA based method for PSS design concept assessment
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Procedia CIRP. - : Elsevier. - 2212-8271. ; , s. 277-282
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Literature and field study research highlight that transiting toward PSS means for many companies to either miss interesting business opportunities or to bet on the wrong solution concept. Early stage assessment activities play a crucial role in this respect, guiding the selection of a value-adding PSS while preventing commitment of resources on poor design alternatives. Emerging from empirical studies in the manufacturing industry, the paper highlights the need for systematic procedures, tools and metrics able to encompass customer satisfaction together with the producer’s value perspective in such assessment. The paper proposes a 2 step assessment method based on the Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) matrix enabling the integration of customer and provider value and supporting early stage PSS design decision making. Verification activities highlight the positive implications of balancing the trade-off between customer and provider value during the PSS assessment phase.

  • Phosphorylation of PDE3B by phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase associated with the insulin receptor
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Journal of Biological Chemistry. - 1083-351X. ; 275:14, s. 10093-10098
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase mediates several actions of insulin including its antilipolytic effect. This effect is elicited by the insulin-stimulated serine phosphorylation and activation of cGMP-inhibited phosphodiesterase (PDE3B). In human adipocytes, we found that insulin differentially stimulated phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase activity; the lipid kinase activity was associated with IRS-1, whereas the serine kinase activity was associated with the insulin receptor and phosphorylated a number of proteins including p85, p110, and a 135-kDa protein identified as PDE3B. PDE3B phosphorylation was associated with enzyme activation, thus initiating the antilipolytic effect of insulin. These results show a novel pathway for intracellular signaling through the insulin receptor leading to the serine phosphorylation of key proteins involved in insulin action.

  • Metal-passivated PbS nanoparticles : Fabrication and characterization
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 1463-9076 .- 1463-9084. ; 19:10, s. 7252-7261
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Organic-shell-free PbS nanoparticles have been produced in the size range relevant for quantum-dot solar cells (QDSCs) by a vapor aggregation method involving magnetron reactive sputtering. This method creates a beam of free 5-10 nm particles in a vacuum. The dimensions of the particles were estimated after their deposition on a substrate by imaging them using ex situ SEM and HRTEM electron microscopy. The particle structure and chemical composition could be deduced "on the fly", prior to deposition, using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) with tunable synchrotron radiation. Our XPS results suggest that under certain conditions it is possible to fabricate particles with a semiconductor core and 1 to 2 monolayer shells of metallic lead. For this case the absolute energy of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) in PbS has been determined to be (5.0 ± 0.5) eV below the vacuum level. For such particles deposited on a substrate HRTEM has confirmed the XPS-based conclusions on the crystalline PbS structure of the semiconductor core. Absorption spectroscopy on the deposited film has given a value of ∼1 eV for the lowest exciton. Together with the valence XPS results this has allowed us to reconstruct the energy level scheme of the particles. The results obtained are discussed in the context of the properties of PbS QDSCs.
