  • See-A framework for simulation of biologically detailed and artificial neural networks and systems
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Neurocomputing. - 0925-2312 .- 1872-8286. ; 26-27, s. 997-1003
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • See is a software framework for simulation of biologically detailed and artficial neural networks and systems. It includes a general purpose scripting language, based on Scheme, which also can be used interactively, while the basic framework is written in C++. Models can be built on the Scheme level from `simulation objectsa, each representing a population ofneurons, a projection, etc. The simulator provides a flexible and efficient protocol for data transfer between such objects. See contains a user interface to the parallelized, platformindependent, library SPLIT intended for biologically detailed modeling of large-scale networks and is easy to extend with new user code, both on the C++ and Scheme levels.

  • Bicarbonate-sensitive cysteine induced elevation of extracellular aspartate and glutamate in rat hippocampus in vitro
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Neurochemistry International. - 0197-0186. ; 30:3, s. 253-259
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The effect of different concentrations of cysteine (0.125, 0.25, 0.5 and 1 mM) on the net efflux of endogenous amino acids was studied by the incubation of rat hippocampal slices. Addition of cysteine (1 mM) in bicarbonate containing low K+ medium (5 min) selectively increased the basal net efflux of glutamate and aspartate by 370% and 396%, respectively. High K+ media (50 mM) containing cysteine (1 mM) evoked the net efflux of glutamate and aspartate by 1454% and 1019%, respectively. The corresponding effects in control slices without cysteine were 669% and 404%, respectively. No changes were observed on the concentrations of GABA, glutamine and taurine. The cysteine oxidation products, cysteine sulfinate (0.5 μM) and cystine (0.25 mM) were without effects. The effect of cysteine (0.5 mM) was dramatically reduced in media with no added bicarbonate/CO2. Thus, cysteine in a bicarbonate-sensitive manner selectively increases the extracellular concentration of excitotoxic amino acids in adult rat brain in vitro, possibly by interfering with the carrier-mediated glutamate uptake/ release

  • Byggsatsfönster. Utveckling av två prototypfönster
  • 1998

  • Asperger syndrome, autism and attention disorders: a comparative study of the cognitive profiles of 120 children.
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, and Allied Disciplines. - 0021-9630 .- 1469-7610. ; 38:2, s. 207-217
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) was applied (in a Swedish version) in 120 children with Asperger syndrome, autistic disorder, and attention disorders. Using stepwise logistic regression analysis, the WISC's discriminating ability was investigated. The overall rate of correct diagnostic classification was 63%. Further, WISC profiles were analysed within each group. The group with autistic disorder was characterised by a peak on Block Design. The Asperger syndrome group had good verbal ability and troughs on Object Assembly and Coding. The group with attention disorders had troughs on Coding and Arithmetic. The results suggest that Kaufman's Verbal Comprehension, Perceptual Organisation and Freedom from Distractibility factors rather than verbal IQ and performance IQ account for the variance on the WISC. Furthermore, the Asperger syndrome and autistic disorder groups differed in respect of "fluid" and "crystallised" cognitive ability.

  • Values of Nature in Every-day Life: Words versus Action in Ecological Behaviour
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: SUSTAINABILITY. The Challenge. People, power and the environment.. - 1551641216 ; , s. 34-41
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The aim of the chapter is to present aspects of generation and gender in relation to ecological behaviour in Sweden. Past studies have compared age groups, sexes or some other classified groups in relation to attitudes and behaviour. The studies present an empirical overview. To get a deeper understanding of attitudes and behaviour we are in need of theoretical renewal with references to both classical and modern sociological theory. A way to go is to focus on value orientation instead of attitudes and to focus on the behavioural dimension of individualism-collectivism instead of specified definitions of ecological behaviour. Values stress perspectives of ethics and morals on environmental problems. The effects of a problem can to some extent by a person be judged as favorable or unfavorable either to individuals or society. It seems as if culture bound experiences during the socialisation processes are important in understanding differences between sexes and generations in aspects of value orientation and ecological behaviour. The discussion ends in a typology of actors, namely the egoistic exploiter, the egoistic conservationist, the collectivistic conservationist, the collectivistic exploiter.
