  • FinEstBeaMS – A wide-range Finnish-Estonian Beamline for Materials Science at the 1.5 GeV storage ring at the MAX IV Laboratory
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9002. ; 859, s. 83-89
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The FinEstBeaMS beamline is under construction at the 1.5 GeV storage ring of the MAX IV Laboratory at Lund, Sweden. It has been designed to cover an unusually wide energy range from ultraviolet (4.3 eV) to soft X-rays (1000 eV) but experiments will also be possible at the Mg and Al Kα energies. Instead of having two different insertion devices and optical schemes for low and high photon energy regions, we have based our design on a single long-period, elliptically polarizing undulator and a plane grating monochromator. This solution will provide very good conditions for planned experiments in the whole photon energy region. The beamline will have two branches: one will mainly be used to investigate free atoms, molecules and clusters with photoelectron/photoion coincidence spectroscopy as well as solids with photoluminescence spectroscopy whereas the other one will be dedicated to ultra-high vacuum studies of surfaces and interfaces, utilizing X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy. This paper focuses on the optical design of the beamline and general design concepts of the gas phase and solid state end stations.

  • Angle-resolved photoion yield and resonant Auger spectroscopy for the doubly excited Rydberg states above the C 1s threshold of CO
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A. Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics. - 1050-2947 .- 1094-1622. ; 78:3, s. 033422-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Doubly excited core-hole states of carbon monoxide in the photon energy region of 300-305 eV, i.e., directly above the C 1s ionization threshold, have been studied using both angle-resolved ion-yield and high-resolution resonant Auger spectroscopies. The leading configurations of the most prominent doubly excited Rydberg states are assigned by careful analysis of the ion-yield spectra and the final-state spectra to C 1s(-1) (5 sigma(-1)2 pi S-1=1) 3s sigma (v'=0,1,2), C 1s(-1) (5 sigma(-1)2 pi S-1=0) 3s sigma (v'=0,1,2), and C 1s(-1) (5 sigma(-1)2 pi S-1=1) 4s sigma (v'=0,1), which can only be populated via a conjugate shake-up process. Analysis of the resonant Auger spectra provides an assignment of several two-hole-one-electron (2h-1e) final states.

  • On the production of N-2(+) ions at the N 1s edge of the nitrogen molecule
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Physica Scripta. - : IOP Publishing. - 0031-8949 .- 1402-4896. ; 87:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The N-2(+) ion yield of the N-2 molecule has been measured at the N 1s -> Rydberg excitations. It displays Fano-type line shapes due to interference between direct outer-valence photoionization and participator decay of the core-excited Rydberg states. The N-2(+) ion yield is compared with the total intensity of the outer-valence photoelectron lines obtained recently with electron spectroscopy (Kivimaki et al 2012 Phys. Rev. A 86 012516). The increasing difference between the two curves at the higher core-to-Rydberg excitations is most likely due to soft x-ray emission processes that are followed by autoionization. The results also suggest that resonant Auger decay from the core-valence doubly excited states contributes to the N-2(+) ion yield at the photon energies that are located on both sides of the N 1s ionization limit.

  • Valence photoionization of the N-2 molecule in the region of the N 1s -> Rydberg excitations
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A (Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics). - 1050-2947. ; 86:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The intensities of the X and A valence photoelectron lines of N-2 have been found to display Fano line shapes as a function of photon energy around the N 1s -> Rydberg excitations. The vibrational intensity distributions of these photoelectron lines change at the N 1s -> 3s sigma and 3p pi resonances. These effects indicate interference between direct and resonant photoionization channels. Our numerical simulations reproduce quite well the experimental results.

  • Application of an atomic relaxation model for the interpretation of O1s to Rydberg excited Auger electron spectra of molecular oxygen
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Chemical Physics Letters. - : Elsevier BV. - 0009-2614. ; 398:1-3, s. 168-174
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Resonant and normal Auger electron spectra associated with an O1s initial vacancy of the O-2 molecule have been recorded using photon energies of 541.80, 541.97 and 650 eV. The resonant Auger spectra obtained at 541.80 and 541.97 eV are interpreted as composed essentially of two characteristic parts, one between 10 and 35 eV binding energy reminiscent to direct photoionisation, and another, above 35 eV, associated primarily with spectator decay of the intermediate core-hole state. The spectra above 35 eV owe some similarity to the ordinary Auger electron spectrum recorded at 650 eV, and an interpretation is made in terms of Rydberg series in the cation converging towards the dicationic ionisation limits. The interpretation is based on a relaxation model introduced earlier for atomic resonant Auger spectra. The assignments of the resonant spectra assume that the relevant intermediate neutral states at 541.80 and 541.97 eV governing the Auger decay are essentially the v = 0 and 1 vibrational components of the (O1s) ((4)Sigma(u)(-)) 4psigma Rydberg state. Arguments for this interpretation are given.

  • Epidermolysis bullosa simplex with PLEC mutations : new phenotypes and new mutations
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: British Journal of Dermatology. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0007-0963 .- 1365-2133. ; 168:4, s. 808-814
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background Genetic mutations in the plectin gene (PLEC) cause autosomal recessive forms of epidermolysis bullosa simplex (EBS) associated with either muscular dystrophy (EBS-MD) or pyloric atresia (EBS-PA). Phenotype-genotype analysis has suggested that EBS-MD is due mostly to genetic mutations affecting the central rod domain of plectin, and EBS-PA to mutations outside this domain. Objectives This study aimed to describe new phenotypes of patients with EBS-MD and EBS-PA, to identify novel PLEC mutations and to establish genotype-phenotype correlations. Methods Seven patients with a suspicion of EBS linked to PLEC mutations were included. A standardized clinical questionnaire was sent to the physicians in charge of each patient. Immunofluorescence studies of skin biopsies followed by molecular analysis of PLEC were performed in all patients. Results We report the first case of nonlethal EBS-PA improving with age, the first multisystemic involvement in a patient with lethal EBS-PA, and the first patients with EBS-MD with involvement of either the bladder or oesophagus. Eleven novel PLEC mutations are also reported. Conclusions Our results confirm that EBS-PA is linked to mutations in the distal exons 1-30 and 32 of PLEC. Long-term survival is possible, with skin improvement, but a delayed onset of MD is probable. While EBS-MD is linked to PLEC mutations in all exons, in most cases one of the mutations affects exon 31. The precocity of MD seems to be linked to the type and localization of the PLEC mutation(s), but no correlation with mucosal involvement has been found.

  • Probing the valence character of O-1s -> Rydberg excited O-2 by participator Auger decay measurements and partial ion yield spectroscopy following x-ray absorption
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Journal of Chemical Physics. - : AIP Publishing. - 0021-9606 .- 1089-7690. ; 126:17, s. 174304-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The valence character of O 1s -> Rydberg excited O-2 is investigated by means of participator Auger decay spectroscopy, performed at selected photon energies across the K-shell resonance region, and by means of partial ion yield x-ray absorption spectroscopy. For several of the excitation energies studied, the authors find substantial sigma(*)((4)Sigma(-)(u),(2)Sigma(-)(u)) valence character being mixed with ns sigma and np sigma ((4)Sigma(-)(u),(2)Sigma(-)(u)) Rydberg states. An experimental indication of a coupling between the channels associated with quartet and doublet ion cores is considered and discussed. New spectroscopic constants are derived for the singly ionized X (2)Pi(g) state of O-2 based on the observation of at least 20 vibrational sublevels.

  • Field ionization of high-Rydberg fragments produced after inner-shell photoexcitation and photoionization of the methane molecule
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Chemical Physics. - : AIP Publishing. - 0021-9606 .- 1089-7690. ; 143:11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have studied the production of neutral high-Rydberg (HR) fragments from the CH4 molecule at the C 1s -> 3p excitation and at the C 1s ionization threshold. Neutral fragments in HR states were ionized using a pulsed electric field and the resulting ions were mass-analyzed using an ion time-of-flight spectrometer. The atomic fragments C(HR) and H(HR) dominated the spectra, but molecular fragments CHx(HR), x = 1-3, and H-2(HR) were also observed. The production of HR fragments is attributed to dissociation of CH4+ and CH42+ ions in HR states. Just above the C 1s ionization threshold, such molecular ionic states are created when the C 1s photoelectron is recaptured after single or double Auger decay. Similar HR states may be reached directly following resonant Auger decay at the C 1s -> 3p resonance. The energies and geometries of the parent and fragment ions have been calculated in order to gain insight into relevant dissociation pathways. (C) 2015 AIP Publishing LLC.
