  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of 38th Rencontres de Moriond on Electroweak Interactions and Unified Theories 15-22 Mar 2003. Les Arcs, France.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AMANDA (Antarctic Muon And Neutrino Detector Array) is a neutrino telescope built under the southern polar icecap and its scope is to explore the possibility to detect high energy cosmic neutrinos. This should generate insight into the powerful celestial objects where acceleration mechanisms can bring up to 10 20   eV. We describe the achievements and results from the AMANDA-B10 prototype and the preliminary results from the current AMANDA-II detector which show dramatic increase in sensitivity.

  • A novel spectroscopy : X-ray magneto-optical spectroscopy of buried antiferromagnetic films-Theory and experiment
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Highlights of the Leibniz-Institute Dresden. ; , s. 7-10
  • Forskningsöversikt (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • X-ray magneto-optical (MO) spectroscopies have developed into extremelypowerful tools for the investigation of both fundamental and applied magnetism. In particular the x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) has become widelyused during the last decade. A disadvantage of the XMCD and related techniquesis that these can be applied only to study ferromagnetic (FM) materials. Thereexists currently an increasing interest in antiferromagnetic (AFM) materialswhich call for different x-ray spectroscopic techniques. A novel, versatilemagneto-x-ray spectroscopy has been developed, that can be applied to AFM’s.This magneto-x-ray spectroscopy may be measured in reflection and is relatedto the x-ray Voigt effect and the x-ray magnetic linear dichroism (XMLD), whichboth involve a transmission geometry. Using the newly developed technique,element-selective x-ray MO spectra of AFM materials have been measured forthe first time in reflection. The XMLD-type reflection spectroscopy has beenapplied to buried AFM layers, which was demonstrated by spectra obtained fromexchange-biased microstructures of current technological importance: NiO/Coand NiMn/Co, containing the insulating AFM NiO, and the metallic AFM NiMn,respectively. The measured spectrum provides information about the exchangesplitd-density of states of the AFM atom.

  • Car user responses to travel demand management measures: Goal setting and choice of adaptation alternatives
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Transportation Research D. ; :9, s. 263-280
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Travel demand management measures can be used to encourage car users to set car-use reduction goals when experiencing impairments in travel options. In forming plans to reduce car-use contingent on such goals, car users consider a range of adaptation alternatives including more efficient car use, suppressing trips, and switching travel mode. These adaptation alternatives, it may be argued, are implemented sequentially over time according to a cost-minimisation principle. A focus group study was conducted gauging the creativity of car-using households when contemplating adaptation alternatives, followed by an Internet-based questionnaire study in an attempt to obtain quantitative estimates of the size of car-use reduction goals and frequency of implementation of adaptation alternatives. The data revealed that the effects of travel demand management measures and trip purpose on the setting of car-use reduction goals were small. While the cost-minimisation principle seemed to dictate stated choices of adaptation alternatives, further research needs to examine the ways in which the principle must be qualified.

  • Public attitudes towards policy measures for reducing private car use
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Paper presented at the 3rd international conference on traffic & transport psychology, University of Nottingham, UK.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In an internet survey, a random sample of 291 university employees living in Gothenburg, Sweden, reported their beliefs and evaluations of the consequences of implementing three travel demand management (TDM) measures varying from less to more coercive. The results showed that respondents differentiated amongst the TDM measures in terms of each measures expected consequences and that, when combining these beliefs with evaluations, a statistically significant proportion of variance was accounted for in attitudes to the TDM measures. Environmental concern modified several of the effects of consequences on attitudes towards TDM measures, as well as influencing overall attitude. The general and practical implications of these findings for improving attitudes to such policies are also discussed
