  • High-resolution measurement of the 12C(γ,p)11B reaction to excited states for Eγ=50–70MeV
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C: covering nuclear physics. - 2469-9985. ; 58:4, s. 2167-2173
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Relative population of states in 11B following the 12C(γ,p) reaction has been measured with high resolution using the deexcitation γ-ray technique. The states near 7 MeV in 11B are clearly resolved and the measured population clarifies earlier conflicting data. Comparison of the results with new calculations indicates the importance of both one-nucleon and multinucleon processes.

  • Rapid microwave-stimulated fixation of entire prostatectomy specimens
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Journal of Pathology. - 0022-3417. ; 183:3, s. 369-375
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Conventional fixation of large solid surgical specimens is a slow process. Consequently, autolytic damage to tissues may occur if the fixative does not reach the central part of the specimen in time. However, as there is also a time relationship between formalin fixation and antigen masking, fixation for too long can also be detrimental. In seeking the optimum balance for fixation, microwave irradiation might be of assistance. This study set out to evaluate methods for fixing entire prostate glands within a brief period of time, using microwave-stimulated formalin fixation. The results show that entire prostates can be optimally fixed if formalin is present throughout the tissue as the temperature is increased by microwave irradiation. This is achieved by injecting the fixative into the prostate at multiple sites immediately following prostatectomy. The technique described ensures standardization of a critical step during tissue processing, leading to uniform microscopic results with both routine and immunohistochemical stains. It is a simple, rapid method, suitable for routine diagnostic use. Using this modified approach, DNA of much larger sizes can be extracted from paraffin-embedded material, which could expand the possibilities for molecular analysis.

  • Characterisation of the PsbX protein from Photosystem II and light regulation of its gene expression in higher plants
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Plant Molecular Biology. - 0167-4412 .- 1573-5028. ; 40:4, s. 737-744
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The location and expression of the previously uncharacterised photosystem II subunit PsbX have been analysed in higher plants. We show that this protein is a component of photosystem II (PSII) core particles but absent from light-harvesting complexes or PSII reaction centres. PsbX is, however, localised to the near vicinity of the reaction centre because it can be cross-linked to cytochrome b559, which is known to be associated with the D1/D2 dimer. We also show that the expression of this protein is tightly regulated by light, since neither protein nor mRNA is found in dark-grown plants.

  • The He(γ,n) reaction: a potential testing ground for the alpha-particle wavefunction
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - 0370-2693. ; 442:1-4, s. 43-47
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Differential cross sections (σ(Eγ,θn)) for the He(γ,n) reaction have been measured at Eγ=50–71 MeV and θn=30–120°. These data are compared with theoretical predictions where a microscopic calculation of the He and He wavefunctions has been made within the Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas, integral-equation formalism.

  • (γ,n) study of the isovector quadrupole resonance in 40Ca
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C: covering nuclear physics. - 2469-9985. ; 55:3, s. 1288-1294
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The forward-to-backward asymmetry of neutrons emitted in the 40Ca(γ,n0) reaction was measured at photon energies in the range of 27–50 MeV. An energy-dependent asymmetry was observed that is interpreted as evidence of interference between the isovector quadrupole resonance and the giant dipole resonance. Data analysis in terms of semiclassical and direct-semidirect models estimate the isovector quadrupole resonance to be at an excitation energy of 31.0±1.5 MeV, with a width of 16.0±1.5 MeV, and exhausting most of the energy-weighted sum rule for the isovector quadrupole resonance.
