  • User satisfaction with mobility assistive devices
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Occupational Therapy. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1103-8128 .- 1651-2014. ; 11:3, s. 143-150
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In Sweden, the most common assistive devices are related to mobility. A study was undertaken to evaluate users' opinions on prescription of mobility devices and their satisfaction with devices and services using a cross-sectional design. A random sample of adult users of mobility assistive devices living in three county councils of Sweden was selected. A postal package comprising a questionnaire and QUEST 2.0 was sent out to 400 users of manual wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs, or walkers. Included in the analysis were 208 questionnaires, a response rate of 52%. Most devices were used on a daily basis and satisfaction with the device was high. Satisfaction with the service was scored lower than satisfaction with the device. Follow-up was the single item with the lowest mean score, and 69% of the users reported that they had not received any follow-up. A positive effect especially on users' ability to be active, transport oneself, feel secure, and to take part in social activities was found. Owing to the low response rate the results have to be interpreted with caution. However, follow-up seems to be an area that needs to be improved. The majority of users are satisfied with the device but not with service.

  • Barrier crossing in small avian migrants : individual tracking reveals prolonged nocturnal flights into the day as a common migratory strategy
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2045-2322. ; 6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Over decades it has been unclear how individual migratory songbirds cross large ecological barriers such as seas or deserts. By deploying light-level geolocators on four songbird species weighing only about 12 g, we found that these otherwise mainly nocturnal migrants seem to regularly extend their nocturnal flights into the day when crossing the Sahara Desert and the Mediterranean Sea. The proportion of the proposed diurnally flying birds gradually declined over the day with similar landing patterns in autumn and spring. The prolonged flights were slightly more frequent in spring than in autumn, suggesting tighter migratory schedules when returning to breeding sites. Often we found several patterns for barrier crossing for the same individual in autumn compared to the spring journey. As only a small proportion of the birds flew strictly during the night and even some individuals might have flown non-stop, we suggest that prolonged endurance flights are not an exception even in small migratory species. We emphasise an individual’s ability to perform both diurnal and nocturnal migration when facing the challenge of crossing a large ecological barrier to successfully complete a migratory journey.

  • Comprehensive human urine standards for comparability and standardization in clinical proteome analysis
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Proteomics - Clinical Applications. - : Wiley. - 1862-8346 .- 1862-8354. ; 4:4, s. 464-478
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: Urine proteomics is emerging as a powerful tool for biomarker discovery. The purpose of this study is the development of a well-characterized "real life" sample that can be used as reference standard in urine clinical proteomics studies. Experimental design: We report on the generation of male and female urine samples that are extensively characterized by different platforms and methods (CE-MS, LC-MS, LC-MS/MS, 1-D gel analysis in combination with nano-LC MS/MS (using LTQ-FT ultra), and 2-DE-MS) for their proteome and peptidome. In several cases analysis involved a definition of the actual biochemical entities, i.e. proteins/peptides associated with molecular mass and detected PTMs and the relative abundance of these compounds. Results: The combination of different technologies allowed coverage of a wide mass range revealing the advantages and complementarities of the different technologies. Application of these samples in "inter-laboratory" and "inter-platform" data comparison is also demonstrated. Conclusions and clinical relevance: These well-characterized urine samples are freely available upon request to enable data comparison especially in the context of biomarker discovery and validation studies. It is also expected that they will provide the basis for the comprehensive characterization of the urinary proteome.

  • Monogenic diabetes : From genetic insights to population-based precision in care. reflections from a diabetes care editors’ expert forum
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Diabetes Care. - : American Diabetes Association. - 0149-5992 .- 1935-5548. ; 43:12, s. 3117-3128
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Individualization of therapy based on a person’s specific type of diabetes is one key element of a “precision medicine” approach to diabetes care. However, applying such an approach remains difficult because of barriers such as disease heterogeneity, difficulties in accurately diagnosing different types of diabetes, multiple genetic influences, incomplete understanding of pathophysiology, limitations of current therapies, and environmental, social, and psychological factors. Monogenic diabetes, for which single gene mutations are causal, is the category most suited to a precision approach. The pathophysiological mechanisms of monogenic diabetes are understood better than those of any other form of diabetes. Thus, this category offers the advantage of accurate diagnosis of nonoverlapping etiological subgroups for which specific interventions can be applied. Although representing a small proportion of all diabetes cases, monogenic forms present an opportunity to demonstrate the feasibility of precision medicine strategies. In June 2019, the editors of Diabetes Care convened a panel of experts to discuss this opportunity. This article summarizes the major themes that arose at that forum. It presents an overview of the common causes of monogenic diabetes, describes some challenges in identifying and treating these disorders, and reports experience with various approaches to screening, diagnosis, and management. This article complements a larger American Diabetes Association effort supporting implementation of precision medicine for monogenic diabetes, which could serve as a platform for a broader initiative to apply more precise tactics to treating the more common forms of diabetes.

  • Comparisons Of Some Weighting Methods For Nonresponse Adjustment
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Lithuaninan Journal of Statistics. - Vilnius : Lietuvos Statistiku Sajunga/Statistics Lithuania. - 1392-642X .- 2029-7262. ; 54:1, s. 69-83
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Sample and population auxiliary information have been demonstrated to be useful and yield approximately equal resultsin large samples. Several functional forms of weights are suggested in the literature. This paper studies the properties of calibrationestimators when the functional form of response probability is assumed to be known. The focus is on the difference between populationand sample level auxiliary information, the latter being demonstrated to be more appropriate for estimating the coefficients in theresponse probability model. Results also suggest a two-step procedure, using sample information for model coefficient estimation inthe first step and calibration estimation of the study variable total in the second step.
