  • Band termination spectroscopy in 157Er
  • 1995
  • In: Journal of Physics G: Nuclear and Particle Physics. - 0954-3899. ; 21:2, s. 193-213
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The level scheme of 157Er has been extended from a spin region where the nucleus behaves as a prolate rotor to a region where the spin is produced by the alignment of all or most of the available valence nucleons along the symmetry axis of a weakly deformed oblate shape. The level scheme was established at high spin using up to four-fold gamma -ray coincidences detected in the Eurogam spectrometer following the reaction 114Cd( 48Ca,5n)157Er at a bombarding energy of 210 MeV. Particularly favoured states have been established at IK=69/2+, 81/2+, 71/2+, 77/2-, 87-/2 and 89-/2. Specific single-particle configurations are assigned to these special states by comparison with cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations. These states are related to structures observed in the neighbouring nuclei 158Er and 157Ho. These data provide the spectrum of single-particle states for the lowest lying valence orbitals above the 146Gd closed core.

  • Identification of excited states in doubly odd [Formula Presented]Sb : Smooth band termination
  • 1997
  • In: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813. ; 55:5, s. 2127-2131
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Excited states in [Formula Presented]Sb have been identified for the first time in a series of [Formula Presented]-spectroscopy experiments using both thin and backed targets, including neutron-fold and recoil-mass measurements to provide unambiguous channel identification. The three decoupled intruder bands observed in [Formula Presented]Sb are based upon configurations involving 2p-2h excitations across the [Formula Presented] shell gap and show the features of smooth band termination. The yrast intruder band, which has been connected to the low-spin levels, is tentatively identified up to its predicted termination at [Formula Presented]. Excellent agreement with configuration-dependent cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations is obtained for the high-spin states near termination.

  • First observation of excited states in the neutron deficient nuclei (PT)-P-168 and Pt-170
  • 1998
  • In: Physics Letters B. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 443:1-4, s. 82-88
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Excited states have been observed for the first time in (XPt)-X-168 and Pt-170 using the alpha-decay recoil-tagging technique. The trend of decreasing deformation moving away from the N = 104 mid-shell continues far Pt-170 but the structure of Pt-168 is significantly different. The low spin level energy systematics in Pt168-184 are presented and discussed within the framework of the interacting boson model. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Collective rotational-vibrational transition in the very neutron-deficient nuclei (171,172)-Pt
  • 1998
  • In: Physics Letters B. - AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS : ELSEVIER SCIENCE. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 443:1-4, s. 69-76
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Excited states have been identified for the first time in very neutron deficient Pt-171.172 nuclei using the recoil-or-decay tagging technique. The ground-state band in Pt-172 has been established up to I-pi = 8+. A similar level sequence, presumably built on the I-pi = 13/2(+) state, is observed for Pt-171. The data are compared with theoretical calculations based on the mean field approach and the random phase approximation and are put into the context of the systematics of platinum isotopes. • Role of surface stoichiometry in the Cl-2/GaAs(001) reaction
  • 1996
  • In: Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology. A. Vacuum, Surfaces, and Films. - : American Vacuum Society. - 0734-2101 .- 1520-8559. ; 14:3, s. 1815-1821
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The room-temperature reaction of Cl-2 with GaAs(001)-4x6, -c(2x8), and -c(4x4) surfaces is studied with synchrotron soft x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The chemical composition of the reacted surfaces is found to depend on the stoichiometry of the starting surface. In all cases, the reaction occurs stepwise, with Ga and As monochlorides formed prior to the dichlorides. The Ga-rich surface is initially more reactive than either of the As-rich surfaces and it forms more GaCl than the As-rich surfaces, which instead form more AsCl. The sticking coefficient for chlorine on GaAs(001) decays exponentially with coverage. A contribution from Cl atoms comprising the surface dichlorides is identified in the Cl 2p core-level spectra.
