    • Septoria tritici blotch (STB), caused by fungal agent Zymoseptoria tritici (previously known as Mycosphaerella graminicola) is a devastative foliar wheat diseases globally. Importance and potential threat of STB have been discussed historically and geographically. This paper reviews information on the Z. tritici-wheat pathosystem and proposes approaches to identify resistance genes and to advance in breeding for STB resistance. Screening of resistant lines/cultivars, QTL mapping analysis within genetic populations derived from crosses, detection of new resistance gene(s) and finally application of Stb gene carrier line/cultivar in crosses are the major stages of a practical wheat-breeding program against STB of wheat. Phenotyping and genotyping outputs on the top of each other should confirm each other, so it needs to expose a resistance gene carrier line/cultivar in the epidemic condition at seedling/adult plant stage to confirm resistance performance of detected gene(s) in the real condition. On the other word, detecting an associated QTL to resistance should not be considered as the end of investigation. Climate change resulted geographical disease pattern conversion where some diseases became more important in some area where they had not been serious in the past and vice versa. Hence, a reconsideration of wheat disease importance zone is necessary to predict regions where STB is and will be a limitation for wheat yield improvement.

    • A configurable circuit breaker is disclosed which is, for example, applicable for medium voltage range, with flexibility in configuration, based on the electrical and mechanical constraints. The circuit breaker can include multiple poles, which can be fitted on a shaft at desired positions, using clamping, dowelling, bolting or other types of connections. An epoxy frame can mount the circuit breaker on a truck horizontally or vertically, by mounting inserts and the clamping mechanism. Side sheets of the pole allow internal access. Flexible contacts and the vertical slots enable adjustability in the incoming and outgoing distances, as per design constraints. A tulip contact can be provided for mounting incoming/outgoing conductors. A common actuator can be mounted anywhere on the shaft, via the movable contact or on any of the poles, which are robust enough.

    • Alcohol disrupts the intestinal mucosal barrier by inducing metabolic and functional changes in epithelial cells. Recently, we showed that neuropeptide S (NPS) decreases duodenal motility and increases mucosal paracellular permeability, suggesting a role of NPS in the pathogenesis of disorders and dysfunctions in the small intestine. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of NPS on ethanol- and HCl-induced changes of duodenal mucosal barrier function and motility. Rats were anaesthetized with thiobarbiturate, and a 30-mm segment of the proximal duodenum with an intact blood supply was perfused in situ. The effects on duodenal bicarbonate secretion, the blood-to-lumen clearance of 51Cr-EDTA, motility and transepithelial net fluid flux were investigated.Intravenous (i.v.) administration of NPS significantly reduced duodenal mucosal bicarbonate secretion and stimulated mucosal transepithelial fluid absorption, mechanisms dependent on nitrergic signaling. NPS dose-dependently reduced ethanol-induced increases in duodenal motility. NPS (83 pmol·kg-1·min-1, i.v.) reduced the bicarbonate and fluid secretory response to luminal ethanol, whereas a 10-fold higher dose stimulated fluid secretion but did not influence bicarbonate secretion. In NPS-treated animals, duodenal perfusion of acid (pH 3) induced greater bicarbonate secretory rates than in controls. Pre-treating animals with Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) inhibited the effect of NPS on bicarbonate secretion. In response to luminal acid, NPS-treated animals had significantly higher paracellular permeability compared to controls, an effect that was abolished by L-NAME.Our findings demonstrate that NPS reduces basal and ethanol-induced increases in duodenal motility. In addition, NPS increases luminal alkalinization and mucosal permeability in response to luminal acid via mechanisms that are dependent on nitric oxide signaling. The data support a role for NPS in neurohumoral regulation of duodenal mucosal barrier function and motility.
