- Syftet med projektet är att granska och att reflektera kring Jesu politiska aktörsskap i relation till nutida samtidsdiskussioner. Som en teoretisk utgångspunkt för att möta den frågan kommer Jesus liv och lära att diskuteras genom att relatera hans politiska verksamhet till begreppen aktivism, revolution, populism, och anarki. Syftet är inte att erbjuda en anakronistisk läsning av Jesus liv och lära, i tron att någondera av dessa politiska praktiker enkelt låter sig tillämpas på den politiska kontext som Jesus fungerade i. Inte heller är det i tron att de erbjuder någon definitiv tolkning av Jesu politiska verksamhet. Syftet är snarare att bruka nutida politiska teoretiska begrepp för att tolka Jesu politiska verksamhet, med förhoppningen att denna association ska underlätta arbetet med att nyttja Jesu liv och lära som en resurs för att föreställa det allmänna goda och tackla nutida utmaningar. Orsaken till varför just aktivism, revolution, populism och anarkism valts som en teoretisk-begreppslig grund, är för att vardera av dessa politiska praktiker försöker få till stånd en förändring av något slag, dock utifrån olika logiska förutsättningar och på olika sätt. Trots att man kan tolka Jesu politiska aktörsskap på olika sätt, är det däremot mer eller mindre uppenbart att han försökte få till stånd en förändring i den rådande samhällsordningen. Utifrån denna insikt har framför allt kristna genom tiderna inspirerats av Jesus för att förverkliga den vision om det goda som hans liv och lära innehåller, samt utvecklat en kritik av de aktörer som motarbetar denna vision.

- 1836 skrev Angelina Grimké pamfletten An Appeal to the Christian Women of the South, en moralisk väckarklocka för sydstatskvinnor att förenas i kampen mot slaveriet. Pamfletten, vilken följdes av systern Sarah Grimkés, An Epistle to the Clergy of the Southern States samma år, väckte starka reaktioner i systrarnas hemtrakter och ansträngde relationerna mellan systrarna och kväkarförbundet till vilka systrarna hade anslutit sig. I pamfletten talar Angelina Grimké som en auktoritet i sin tid och visar på sin djupa förtrogenhet med bibeltexterna och kreativitet som exeget i abolitionismens och den tidiga kvinnorörelsens tjänst. Genom att låta sin text anta epistelns form och även använda sig av direkta citat ur Paulus brev gör hon anspråk på en auktoritet högre än präster och pastorer i sin tid, som en uttolkare av historien och en profet som visar vägen framåt. Bibelcitaten, vilka många är hämtade ur Gamla testamentet, visar på hennes originalitet som exeget och retoriker. I artikeln analyseras såväl retorik som bibelanvändning.

- A common theme in the novel Lila and the Hebrew bible is the social, theological, and ethical dynamics of a nomadic vs. settled form of life. In the article, I bring the literary figure and texts of Ezekiel into an encounter with the novel’s protagonist Lila, and demonstrate how her encounter with his strange and often bizarre visions and metaphors enables her to transform her life and finally experience a homecoming. In the conversations of Lila and Ames, biblical quotations play a prominent role. It is argued, that there is a thematic link between the historical and ideological contexts of the biblical quotes and the way they are used in the novel. In the Hebrew bible, as well as in Lila, the chosen texts express the theologies and ethics of the powerful and the dis-empowered, the landowners and the landless, the insider and the outcast.

- What holds a society together, what makes it dissolve, and how is a society in crisis restored? These are the questions explored in this study, which brings the Serek ha-Yahad (IQS) into dialogue with mimetic theory. It thus aims to shed light on the forms of life and thought in the yahad, as well as on their underlying reason and purpose. From the analysis emerges an image of a community that not only has a strong awareness of the mechanisms of violence, but also of its cure. Its hierarchical organization and strict regulations are motivated by a perceived dissolution of contemporary society. By subordinating personal desire to community discipline and by establishing a system of differentiation, the yahad seeks to provide a model of how a society ought to be functioning.

- Isaiah’s prophecy of stones, in which God has laid in Zion “a stone, a tested stone, a valuable cornerstone for a foundation, a foundation for the one who trusts that will not shake” (28:16) is an important intertext in the sectarian compositions from Qumran. It is alluded to in the Hodayot (1QHa) and the Serekh ha-Yahad (1QS), in all instances it is directly associated with the (council of the) community. As a general trend in Qumran scholarship, these allusions—especially in 1QS VIII, 7–8—are understood metaphorically, as speaking of the community in terms of a temple. In this essay, the stone imagery in 1QS and 1QHa will instead be treated as symbol namely, the symbol of axis mundi / omphalos. In Paul Ricœur’s definition, metaphor is superstructure, working on the level of the sentence whereas symbol is infrastructure, working on the level of the narrative. The symbol connects the narrative in the text with a narrative that is larger than life. A symbolic reading of Isa 28:16 in the Scrolls displays the community as involved in the larger narrative of God’s salvific activities. When the community claim that they are the foundation stone, a massive stone/wall, the corner stone, it is to say that God has now chosen them as a locus for his activities and presence. They are a religiopolitical centre (axis mundi) aiming for societal change, with a council capable of advising both kings and priests. In reversed light of the reception of Isa 28:16 in the Scrolls and rabbinic literature, it is argued that the figure of speech in the source text in Isaiah 28:16 is an early witness of the representation of Jerusalem and Zion as the axis mundi.

Utifrån René Girards mimetiska teori och syn på offrets samhällshelande funktion, argumenterar Skarström Hinojosa för att Jesus bryter med den rådande socio-politiska ordningen till förmån för en ny världsordning. I artikeln lyfter hon även fram hur denna praktik kan skönjas i de gemenskapspraktiker som framträder i Dödahavsrullarna, vilka beskriver en gemenskap som upplevde att man var tvungen att ta avstånd från världen för att kunna leva ett liv i enlighet med Guds vilja.
