  • Particle tracking in the CLIC main beam Injector Linac
  • 2006
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This note presents a particle tracking study in the CLIC Injector Linac, which accelerates both electrons and positrons from 200 MeV to 2.42 GeV, prior to their injection into the damping rings. For the positrons, a growth of the emittance and a large energy spread are observed at the end of the linac, but both effects can be minimized by using a bunch compressor at the exit of the e+ Pre-Injector Linac. For the electrons, no significant increase of the emittance is noticed and the energy spread remains small.

  • Phylogenomics, biogeography and evolution in the American genus Brahea (Arecaceae)
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0024-4074 .- 1095-8339. ; 190:3, s. 242-259
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Slow rates of molecular evolution at low taxonomic levels hamper studies of relationships among species and subsequent biogeographic and evolutionary analyses. An example is the genus Brahea, which is among the most poorly understood lineages of American palms and is characterized by a wide variety of growth forms and intermediate morphological features. We generated c. 400 kb of genome-scale data from all three genomes for the 11 currently described Brahea spp. to infer phylogenetic relationships, reconstruct ancestral growth form, estimate ancestral geographical ranges and test for niche differences among closely related species with geographical overlap. Relationships receive strong support and conform to previous subgeneric assignments, except for placement of the dwarf species B. moorei in Brahea subgenus Erythea. Our robust phylogenetic hypothesis reveals trends in growth form, including an overall increase in height in the B. armata clade and independent evolution of dwarf forms from taller ancestors in the B. pimo and B. dulcis clades. Ancestral range estimation reveals roles of dispersal (e.g. B. edulis on Guadalupe Island) and putative divergence within geographical regions in some cases (e.g. in the B. armata clade) but is equivocal in others (e.g. in the B. pimo clade). We find evidence of niche non-equivalency among species in the B. armata clade in north-western Mexico and some evidence of niche non-equivalency between B. berlandieri and B. dulcis, the former of which is synonymized under B. dulcis. Our findings have implications for the complex biogeographic history in Central America and Mexico, suggesting that divergence within regions and dispersal are the predominant processes of species diversification. Future studies should include population-level sampling across the genus, along with morphological and ecological information, to assess distinctness among species and, particularly, levels of gene flow, in an integrative fashion.

  • Detection of rotavirus- and norovirus-specific IgG memory B cells in tonsils
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Medical Virology. - : WILEY. - 0146-6615 .- 1096-9071. ; 91:2, s. 326-329
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Because rotavirus (RV) and norovirus (NoV) are transmitted through the fecal-oral route, tonsils due to their location within the oropharynx may sample or become infected with these viruses. We investigated if RV and NoV RNA/antigen, or virus-specific memory/plasma B cells can be detected in the tonsils. While neither RV/NoV antigen, nor genomic RNA was detected, 90% (27/30) of tonsils tested had RV- and NoV-specific IgG memory B cells. However, the mechanism explaining how these cells get there (whether because of local induction or homing after induction at other sites) and the role these cells might play during active infection is not yet clear.

  • Nascent entrepreneurial teams managing in networks : mobilization, utilization and saturation
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Motivating SMEs to cooperate and internationalize. - New York : Taylor & Francis Group. - 9781315412603 - 9781138220577 ; , s. 133-150
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The point of departure in this paper is based on the research question: How do nascent entrepreneurs build and maintain value networks in early phases of venture creation? We study 7 firms and 23 respondents. Interviews and visualization techniques were used as base for data collection. We study a three-phase startup process; conceptualization, newly founded and newly established. We contribute to research by illustrating the dynamics in these phases. Our study shows that the value network, in each phase, can be understood as an ongoing modification of three networking activities; network mobilization, network utilization and network saturation. That is, the use of the network lack precision as the venture becomes more mature, thus the entrepreneur experiences a sense of network equivocality. Hence, the entrepreneur manages network equivocality in order to create a higher precision in the value output from the network.

  • Nascent entrepreneurs managing in networks : equivocality, multiplexity and tie formation
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Enterprising Culture. - : World Scientific Publishing. - 0218-4958. ; 26:1, s. 51-83
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper studies the dynamics of network development in early phases of venture development. Seven ventures were studied through interviews and visualization techniques.  An equivocal three-phase process was studied - Conceptualization, Early foundation and Early establishment. This paper defines network equivocality, draw on multiplexity theory and contributes by fine-tuning the concept of tie formation. The paper presents a conceptual model where the dynamics behind network development in early phases of venture development is explained. It is proposed that each phase of development is divided by knowledge boundaries. As ventures mature, they pass knowledge boundaries, and this passage triggers network transformation. Thus, the roles of both nascent firms and of multiplex network contacts change, and consequently tie formation also change. Three distinct tie formations are identified; esoteric, enlarged and exoteric.

  • Selection of maintenance strategy for mechanized and automated systems using risk analysis
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Proceedings from 5th International Symposium on Mine Mechanization and Automation, Laurentian Univ. Sudbury, CANADA, JUNE 99.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Taking decision concerning selection of maintenance strategy using risk based criteria is essential to develop cost effective maintenance policies for mechanized and automated systems because in this approach technical features (such as reliability & maintainability characteristics) are analyzed considering economic and safety consequences of each alternative at hand. This approach also provides a holistic view of the various decision scenario concerning maintenance strategy where cost consequences of every possible solution can be assessed quantitatively. It is very important that formal reliability and risk assessment form an integral part of the maintenance planning and control process. This paper emphasizes the need of integration of risk analysis methods in all phases of conception, design manufacturing and operation to arrive at the most optimal maintenance policies/strategies for the system under consideration. The paper also discusses various steps involved in risk analysis and concludes that the risk assessment can be used in many activities related to maintenance for arriving at the best decision among the several alternatives available at hand.
