    • Using angle resolved photoemission we have investigated annealing-induced changes in Ga1-xMnxAs with x=0.05. We find that the position of the Fermi energy is a function of annealing time and temperature. It is also established that the Curie temperature is strongly correlated to the separation between the Fermi level and the valence band maximum. Valence band photoemission shows that the Mn3d spectrum is modified by the annealing treatments.

    • Magnetotransport properties of GaMnAs single layers and InGaMnAs/ InGaAs superlattice structures were investigated at temperatures from 4 K to 300 K and magnetic fields up to 23 T to study the influence of carriers confinement through different structures. Both single layers and superlattice structures show paramagnetic-to-ferromagnetic phase transition. In GaMnAs/InGaAs superlattice beside the Curie temperature (T-c approximate to 40 K), a new phase transition is observed close to 13 K.

    • The structure and magnetic properties of BCC (0 0 1) oriented Fe81Ni19/Co superlattices grown on MgO(0 0 1) substrates by magnetron sputtering are presented. The variation of magnetic moment with the compn. and with the interface d. was studied. A model in which the magnetic moment per atom at the interfaces is different from that in the interior region was used for the anal. The extension of the interface region is ∌3.5 monolayers and the magnetic moment in this region is enhanced by ∌0.3 ÎŒB/atom, compared to the interior regions. The superlattices form a BCC-like structure with a slight orthorhombic distortion, which gives rise to a weak in-plane uniaxial anisotropy. [on SciFinder(R)]

    • A growth process for diluted magnetic SiC has been explored for as-grown epitaxiallayers by introducing Mn ions. Depending on the growth conditions, either high Mn doping orexcess concentrations with second phases may form in the layers. Under those conditions wherecompound phases appear, there is a magnetic response in the material as demonstrated usingSQUID measurements with a transition temperature of 160K in the as-grown material. There is noresponse in layers for which the second phases have been removed by etching.
