  • The Influence of KCl and HCl on the High-Temperature Oxidation of a Fe-2.25Cr-1Mo Steel at 400 °C
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Oxidation of Metals. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1573-4889 .- 0030-770X. ; 93:1-2, s. 29-52
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The influence of alkali- and chlorine-containing compounds on the corrosion of superheater alloys has been studied extensively. The current paper instead investigates the corrosive effects of KCl and HCl under conditions relevant to waterwall conditions. A low-alloy (Fe-2.25Cr-1Mo) steel was exposed to KCl(s), 500 vppm HCl(g) and (KCl + HCl) in the presence of 5%O2 and 20% H2O at 400 °C. The results indicate that alloy chlorination by KCl occurs by an electrochemical process, involving cathodic formation of chemisorbed KOH on the scale surface and anodic formation of solid FeCl2 at the bottom of the scale. The process is accompanied by extensive cracking and delamination of the iron oxide scale, resulting in a complex, convoluted scale morphology. Adding 500 vppm HCl to the experimental environment (KCl + HCl) initially greatly accelerated the formation of FeCl2 at the scale/alloy interface. The accelerated alloy chlorination is attributed to HCl reacting with KOH at the scale surface, causing the cathodic process to be depolarized. A rapid slowing down of the rate of chlorination and corrosion in KCl + HCl environment was observed which was attributed to the electronically insulating nature of the FeCl2 layer which forms at the bottom of the scale, disconnecting the anodic and cathodic regions.

  • The Changing Landscape of Sport Facilities : Consequences for Practitioners and the Environment
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Sport, Performance and Sustainability. - London : Routledge. - 9781003283324 - 9781032254630 ; , s. 50-65
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The environmental impact of sports facilities has received increasing attention over the last decades. However, studies within this area primarily deal with how the actual construction of sports facilities affects the environment. We know far less about how an active presence in sports facilities influences sporting practitioners’ thoughts about their own environmental impact. Therefore, this chapter critically discusses environmental issues connected to sports facilities generally and more specifically in relation to artificial sports facilities. We use several theoretical concepts to discuss the current research with examples taken from the artificial landscapes of cross-country skiing, canoe slalom, and turf-based sports. What makes artificial sports facilities especially interesting from an environmental perspective is the ambiguity they involve. On one hand, the actual constructions involve direct interventions in nature. On the other hand, there is a lack of knowledge about the impact these facilities have on health, environmental awareness, and travel. We argue that future sports facilities will need to stimulate more logic than competition if sport and outdoor recreation is to be environmentally sustainable. The process of sportification, which has prioritised the growth of sport economies and encouraged ever higher performance levels, would need to shift its focus to incorporate environmental concerns.

  • Where does environmental sustainability fit in the changing landscapes of outdoor sports? : An analysis of logics of practice in artificial sport landscapes
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Sport, Education and Society. - : Taylor & Francis Group. - 1357-3322 .- 1470-1243. ; 28:6, s. 727-740
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Environmental sustainability in sport is an increasingly important issue. In this paper, we want to highlight a specific phenomenon, namely artificially constructed landscapes and the outdoor sport activities that take place therein. More specifically, we are interested in the logics that govern peoples’ practice of sport in such artificial landscapes and what challenges with regards to environmental sustainability that follow from these logics. The purpose of this paper is to identify what individual athletes perceive as meaningful logics when practicing sport in artificial landscapes and to analyse and discuss potential environmental consequences of these logics. The sports we focus on are cross-country skiing and canoe slalom, two sports that historically have been dependent on specific geographies and contexts. We build on two research questions: What logics of practice govern individual athletes’ practice of sport in artificial landscapes? And what environmental challenges are potential consequences of the logics that are expressed by the athletes? Our findings indicate that the logic of performance is dominant for the sport practitioners who train in artificial landscapes, at the expense of perspectives such as nature experience and environmental sustainability. If performance is key, then the role of the training landscape is also first and foremost to present the best possible conditions for performance. But if the athlete/exerciser see their training as a means of experiencing nature, then other values than performance and comparability can become more important. When the environmental impact of individual athletes and of the artificial landscapes in which they do their training come under increased scrutiny, the role of logics of practice in the sport and movement culture needs further attention. Being aware of nature and the environment is also a logic that could be found meaningful in the process of making sports more sustainable.

  • Postoperative morbidity and health-related quality of life in children with delayed reconstruction of esophageal atresia: a nationwide Swedish study
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1750-1172. ; 17:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background In 10-15% of children with esophageal atresia (EA) delayed reconstruction of esophageal atresia (DREA) is necessary due to long-gap EA and/or prematurity/low birth weight. They represent a patient subgroup with high risk of complications. We aimed to evaluate postoperative morbidity and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in a Swedish national cohort of children with DREA. Methods Postoperative morbidity, age-specific generic HRQOL (PedsQL((TM)) 4.0) and condition-specific HRQOL (The EA-QOL questionnaires) in children with DREA were compared with children with EA who had primary anastomosis (PA). Factors associated with the DREA group's HRQOL scores were analyzed using Mann-Whitney U-test and Spearman's rho. Clinical data was extracted from the medical records. Significance level was p < 0.05. Results Thirty-four out of 45 families of children with DREA were included and 30 returned the questionnaires(n = 8 children aged 2-7 years; n = 22 children aged 8-18 years). Compared to children with PA(42 children aged 2-7 years; 64 children aged 8-18 years), there were no significant differences in most early postoperative complications. At follow-up, symptom prevalence in children aged 2-7 with DREA ranged from 37.5% (heartburn) to 75% (cough). Further digestive and respiratory symptoms were present in >= 50%. In children aged 8-18, it ranged from 14.3% (vomiting) to 40.9% (cough), with other digestive and airway symptoms present in 19.0-27.3%. Except for chest tightness (2-7 years), there were no significant differences in symptom prevalence between children with DREA and PA, nor between their generic or condition-specific HRQOL scores (p > 0.05). More children with DREA underwent esophageal dilatations (both age groups), gastrostomy feeding (2-7 years), and antireflux treatment (8-18 years), p < 0.05. Days to hospital discharge after EA repair and a number of associated anomalies showed a strong negative correlation with HRQOL scores (2-7 years). Presence of cough, airway infection, swallowing difficulties and heartburn were associated with lower HRQOL scores (8-18 years), p < 0.05. Conclusions Although children with DREA need more treatments, they are not a risk group for postoperative morbidity and impaired HRQOL compared with children with PA. However, those with a long initial hospital stay, several associated anomalies and digestive or respiratory symptoms risk worse HRQOL. This is important information for clinical practice, families and patient stakeholders.

    • Between Indictment and Judgment. On the Basis for and the Limits of the Court’s Assessmentof Questions Concerning Guilt, Legal Qualification and Sentence. This study concerns the relationship between the indictment and the judgment in Swedish criminal procedure. Three central aspects of the criminal judgment are covered: The question of the accused’s guilt (the alleged criminal act in the indictment), the legal qualification of the offence and the sentence. The rule governing this relationship, between indictment and judgment, can be found in Chapter 30 paragraph 3 of the Swedish Code of Judicial Procedure. The requirements on the contents of the indictment are carefully examined, as well as other procedural acts, by the accused and by the court itself through its direction of the proceedings, that can have an effect on the limits of the court’s examination of criminal cases. Two questions of paramount importance are covered in-depth: How detailed must the indictment be (and what are the consequences of vagueness in the indictment)? And how should the principle that the court is bound by the indictment be interpreted? It is argued that a flexible standard for the indictment should be applied, allowing different legal consequences for varying deficiencies. With regard to the court being bound by the indictment, is argued that the theory of literary interpretation of the indictment is flawed, and that the demands of the principle of contradictory proceedings should determine the boundaries of the criminal act in the indictment. The study also contains a comprehensive examination of the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights concerning the right of the accused to be informed of the natureand cause of the accusation, contained in Article 6 § 3 (a) of the European Convention of Human Rights. The material rules of immediate interest are explored against the backdrop of a lengthy investigation into their historical and ideological underpinnings. The history of Swedish criminal procedure is described, as well as various theoretical developments. In particular, the question if Swedish criminal procedure should best be described as inquisitorial or accusatorial/adversarial and questions concerning the function of criminal procedure are investigated.
