  • Cultural values, sources of guidance, and their relevance to managerial behavior - A 47-nation study
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology. - : Sage Publications. - 0022-0221 .- 1552-5422. ; 33:2, s. 188-208
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Data are presented showing how middle managers in 47 countries report handling eight specific work events. The data are used to test the ability of cultural value dimensions derived from the work of Hofstede. Trompenaars, and Schwartz to predict the specific sources of guidance on which managers rely. Focusing on sources of guidance is expected to provide a more precise basis than do generalized measures of values for understanding the behaviors that prevail within different cultures. Values are strongly predictive of reliance on those sources of guidance that are relevant to vertical relationships within organizations. Hock ever, values are less successful in predicting reliance on peers and on more tacit sources of guidance. Explaining national differences in these neglected aspects of organizational processes will require greater sensitivity to the culture-specific contexts within which they occur.

  • Cellobiose quinone oxidoreductase from the white rot fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium is produced by intracellular proteolysis of cellobiose dehydrogenase
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, Gene Structure and Expression. - 0167-4781 .- 1879-2634. ; 1576:02-jan, s. 15-22
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium was grown in a 10-1 automatic fermenter using cellobiose us carbon source to monitor the induction of cellobiose dehydrogenase (CDH) and cellobiose quinone oxidoreductase (CBQ) enzymes, and to search for tentative cbq and cdh genes and their transcriptional products. After 24 h of induction, CDH was detected in the culture supernatant and a protein was recognized by a specific anti-CDH polyclonal antibody in the sonicated biomass. Northern blot experiments performed with several fungal RNA samples showed, after 24 h of induction. only one single species of an mRNA transcript corresponding in size to the cdh gene (2.5 kb) The relative amount of this transcript decreased as a function of time. Southern blot experiments done with genomic DNA and database search in the recently available genome information also ruled out the presence in this strain of a separate cbq gene distinct from the cdh gene, Taken together, these results demonstrated that CBQ originates from the cdh gene. Furthermore, it is not produced by differential splicing but by a posttranslational, predominantly intracellular, proteolytic cleavage,

  • Ambient networks management challenges and approaches
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: MOBILITY AWARE TECHNOLOGIES AND APPLICATIONS, PROCEEDINGS. - BERLIN : SPRINGER. - 3540234233 ; , s. 196-216
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • System management addresses the provision of functions required for controlling, planning, allocating, monitoring, and deploying the resources of a network and of its services in order to optimize its efficiency and productivity and to safeguard its operation. It is also an enabler for the creation and sustenance of new business models and value chains, reflecting the different roles the service providers and users of a network can assume. Ambient Network represents a new networking approach and it aims to enable the cooperation of heterogeneous networks, on demand and transparently, to the potential users, without the need for pre-configuration or offline negotiation between network operators. To achieve these goals, ambient network management systems have to become dynamic, adaptive, autonomic and responsive to the network and its ambience. This paper discusses relationships between the concepts of autonomous and self-manageability and those of ambient networking, and the challenges and benefits that arise from their employment.

  • Elevation of IgG antibodies against tissue transglutaminase as a diagnostic tool for coeliac disease in selective IgA deficiency
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Gut. - : BMJ. - 0017-5749 .- 1468-3288. ; 52:11, s. 1567-1671
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: IgA serum autoantibodies against tissue transglutaminase (tTG) have an established diagnostic value in coeliac disease, and high efficacy tests are widely available for their detection. However, serological evaluation of IgA deficient subjects is still difficult.AIMS: To evaluate the diagnostic potential of IgG class anti-tTG autoantibodies measured quantitatively using an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) compared with immunofluorescent detection of coeliac autoantibodies.PATIENTS: We tested serum samples from 325 IgA deficient subjects, including 78 patients with coeliac disease, 73 disease controls, and 174 blood donors.METHODS: IgG antibodies against human recombinant tTG were measured with an ELISA. IgG antiendomysium antibodies (EMA) were assayed by indirect immunofluorescence on human jejunum and appendix sections.RESULTS: The IgG anti-tTG ELISA had a sensitivity of 98.7% and a specificity of 98.6%, and the correlation with IgG EMA titres was high (r(s)=0.91). One coeliac patient, initially negative in all autoantibody tests, displayed both IgG anti-tTG antibodies and IgG EMA during later gluten exposure. IgG anti-tTG antibodies and EMA titres showed significant decreases (p<0.001) in treated patients. The frequency of IgG anti-tTG autoantibody positivity was 9.8% among IgA deficient blood donors and 11 of the 12 positive subjects with known HLA-DQ haplotypes carried DQ2 or DQ8 alleles.CONCLUSIONS: IgG anti-tTG and IgG EMA autoantibody tests are highly efficient in detecting coeliac disease in IgA deficient patients. The high prevalence of coeliac antibodies among symptom free IgA deficient blood donors who also carry coeliac-type HLA-DQ genes indicates that all IgA deficient persons should be evaluated for coeliac disease.
