  • VARIATION SIMULATION TOOLKIT FOR VIRTUAL VERIFICATION OF DENTAL DRILL-GUIDED SURGERIES
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: III INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON COMPUTATIONAL BIOENGINEERING. - 9789806939103 ; , s. 333-338
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • . Guided surgeries are becoming common in modern dental industry, and are used for a variety of treatments. The purpose of this study is to apply a dental software toolkit for virtual simulation of dental drill guided surgery. The hypothesis is that if a virtual simulation of dental drill guided surgery can be done, then the preplanned surgery can also be verified before the actual surgery. The dental drill guided concept is a planning and surgical implementation system that enables surgery with the help of a drill guide based on planning supported by computer aided design tools and CT-scan. The variation simulation predicts the final positions of the pre-defined critical production dimension at the apical part of the fixture. The results are based on variation simulation of two dental drill guided surgeries: Maxilla, seven implants and Mandible, nine implants. Maxilla resulted in a safe surgery while Mandible needed an optimization of the implant positions before the surgery. By analyzing the results, it was also found that both plans could be optimized in order to minimize the geometrical variation. Finally, it was found that the method used was suitable for predicting guided surgeries to achieve safer treatments.

  • Differences in Two-Photon and One-Photon Absorption Profiles Induced by Vibronic Coupling : The Case of Dioxaborine Heterocyclic Dye
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: ChemPhysChem. - : Wiley. - 1439-4235 .- 1439-7641. ; 12:17, s. 3392-3403
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A theoretical study of a dioxaborine heterocyclic compound in solution provides a case study for an analysis of the effects induced by the so-called HerzbergTeller (HT) vibronic coupling on the one- (OPA) and two-photon absorption (TPA) spectra. For TPA, the HT vibronic coupling induces differences in the shapes of the absorption band. The study highlights the importance of vibronic coupling as a potentially important mechanism in absorption spectroscopy, able to explain differences in the OPA/TPA spectra.

  • The impact of an upstream buyer consolidation and downstream intermodal rail-based solution on logistics cost in the China-Europe container trades
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Case Studies on Transport Policy. - : Elsevier BV. - 2213-624X. ; 8:3, s. 1073-1086
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the typical structure of the supply chains associated with the Asia-Europe container trade, containers are stuffed in China, and the cargo is subsequently cross-docked at a major European logistics hub or a distribution centre closer to the customer for further distribution to the final retailing points. However, this solution may not be optimal in the perspective of total logistics cost. Upstream buyer consolidation at the origin and a downstream rail-based intermodal system at the destination has been regarded as a potential solution for reducing the costs of supply chains. The purpose of this study is to identify the benefits of this potential solution. This research is based on a case study obtained from a Swedish retailer with a chain of retailing points in Scandinavia and Poland. A comparative analysis is used to reveal the cost advantage of the alternative solution. Our findings suggest that this alternative solution may reduce monetary logistics cost from two aspects: converting LCL shipments to FCL shipments and converting almost full 20-foot FCL shipments to 40-foot FCL shipments. In addition, certain non-monetary benefits of buyer consolidation, including reduced possibility of delay, reduced complexity, reduced carbon emissions and reduced activities in the destination countries, are illustrated in this paper. Based on our calculation, the cost-saving potential of the new alternative solution illustrated in this case study is considerable, which suggests that such solutions might be desirable as an alternative to the typical arrangements in this trade. © 2020 World Conference on Transport Research Society

  • Photoluminescence Studies of Single Quantum Dots
  • 2004
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This thesis presents photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy studies of single III-V semiconductor quantum dots (QDs). The electronic properties of the QDs, as well as, the dynamics of the processes taking part inside and in the surroundings of the QDs have been studied by single quantum dot photoluminescence spectroscopy, time resolved spectroscopy, and correlation spectroscopy. A detailed overview of solid immersion spectroscopy, a technique offering superior resolution and collection efficiency over conventional PL spectroscopy, is presented. Power-dependent PL spectroscopy was used to identify the origin of the spectral lines of In(Ga)As/GaAs Stranski-Krastanow (SK) grown QDs. It was found that holes in excited states sometimes recombine with electrons in the ground state. A rate equation system was used to model the intensity behavior, showing that the presence of electrons and holes in excited states is also observable when monitoring the PL between electrons and holes in their single-particle ground states. Correlation spectroscopy measurements on In(Ga)As/GaAs SK grown QDs have shown that the light emission from a single QD is antibunched, and a QD can be used to generate single photons on demand. Blinking in the PL from In(Ga)As/GaAs SK grown QDs have been observed and investigated. The PL from a single QD, exhibiting switching between two intensity levels, was spectrally resolved. We found no spectral shift of the emission from the different states. It is only the intensity, mainly for higher energy lines, that changes. The switching is attributed to a mobile, metastable defect acting as a nonradiative recombination center, and we show that the switching can be used as a monitor of the defect. A new type of random telegraph noise have been observed in the PL from small InP/GaInP SK grown QDs. The switching occurs between two states, which have similar total intensities, but distinctly different spectra, that are not simply shifted by an electric field. The QDs can be permanently settled in one of the states by strong illumination. Measurements on QDs in a semitransparent Schottky diode, show that the quantum dots can be reversibly forced into one of the states by applying a sufficiently large reverse bias. Single GaAs nanowires, grown by means of the vapor-liquid-solid growth mode, with InAs QDs in the form of a segment incorporated into the GaAs, have been studied by PL spectroscopy. Rich spectra, consisting of sharp lines with excitation power dependency behavior very similar to that seen for SK grown QDs were observed. By reducing the excitation power density, a QD spectrum was obtained, consisting of only one single sharp line - the exciton line.

  • Time-complemented event-driven control framework for distributed motion control systems based on IEC 61499 and IEEE 1588
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: INDIN 2011. - Piscataway, N.J : IEEE Communications Society. - 9781457704345
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a preliminary study towards the applications of IEC 61499 Function Block standard in distributed motion control systems, where synchronization is of crucial importance. In particular, an investigation on the possibilities of applying event-driven function blocks in the time-based motion control system has been performed on the SIDEL SL90 packaging machine's control system. To achieve the required high-precision time synchronization and to provide the reference time, the IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol has been implemented in this work as the essential part of the packaging control system. A time-complemented event-based control framework has also been proposed.

  • Evaluation of wireless short-range communication performance in a quarry environment
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: 2013 International Conference on Connected Vehicles and Expo, ICCVE 2013 - Proceedings. ; , s. 308-313
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The quarry industry provides sand and gravel to produce the aggregates used to construct buildings and road structures. Productivity and safety within this industry can be improved by using wireless communication technologies. EMC, dust and solid materials that present non-line-of-sight (NLOS) issues create a harsh environment that poses challenges to using wireless communication. This paper evaluates how a set of wireless standards performs in the quarry in terms of range and packet reception ratio (PRR). The assessment includes the wireless short-range technologies ZigBee, 802.11g and 802.11p using frequencies of 868 MHz, 2.4 GHz and 5.9 GHz. We present measurement results from a real quarry environment and identify system considerations for quarry safety and efficiency applications based on collected data. © 2013 IEEE.

  • K-delayed strong detectability of discrete-event systems
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the IEEE Conference on Decision and Control. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. - 9781728113982 ; , s. 7647-7652
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Among notions of detectability for a discrete-event system (DES), strong detectability implies that after a finite number of observations to every infinitely long output/label sequence generated by the DES, the current state can be uniquely determined. This notion is strong so that by using it the current state can be easily determined. In order to keep the advantage of strong detectability and weaken its disadvantage, we can additionally take some subsequent outputs into account in order to determine the current state. Such a modified observation will make some DES that is not strongly detectable become strongly detectable in a weaker sense, which we call K-delayed strong detectability if we observe at least K outputs after the time at which the state need to be determined. In this paper, we study K-delayed strong detectability for DESs modeled by finite-state automata (FSAs), and give a polynomial-time verification algorithm by using a novel concurrent-composition method. Note that the algorithm applies to all FSAs. Also by the method, an upper bound for K has been found, and we also obtain polynomial-time verification algorithms for (k1, k)-detectability and (k1, k)-D-detectability of FSAs firstly studied by [Shu and Lin, 2013]. Our algorithms strength the corresponding polynomial-time verification algorithms given by Shu and Lin based on the usual assumptions of deadlock-freeness and promptness (i.e., there is no reachable unobservable cycle).
