  • Inter- and intra-rater reliability of the Oberg-Manske-Tonkin classification of congenital upper limb anomalies
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: The Journal of hand surgery, European volume. - : SAGE Publications. - 2043-6289. ; 47:10, s. 1016-1024
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • On two occasions, five surgeons classified a cohort of 150 consecutive patients with congenital upper limb anomalies according to the Oberg–Manske–Tonkin classification (2020 update). We estimated reliability for the main anomaly code by means of Cohen’s kappa (Κ) for ten rater pairs for five common and easily distinguishable anomalies (Group 1), and for all the other anomalies (Group 2). Inter-rater reliability for all patients ( n = 150) was substantial, almost perfect for Group 1 ( n = 64), but only moderate for Group 2 ( n = 86). Intra-rater reliability was higher for all groups. We suggest simplifications to the Oberg–Manske–Tonkin classification and highlight specific requirements for instructions to increase its reliability. Level of evidence: I

  • An evaluation of objective measures for intelligibility prediction of time-frequency weighted noisy speech
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Acoustical Society of America. - : Acoustical Society of America (ASA). - 0001-4966. ; 130, s. 3013-3027
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Existing objective speech-intelligibility measures are suitable for several types of degradation, however, it turns out that they are less appropriate in cases where noisy speech is processed by a time-frequency weighting. To this end, an extensive evaluation is presented of objective measure for intelligibility prediction of noisy speech processed with a technique called ideal time frequency (TF) segregation. In total 17 measures are evaluated, including four advanced speech-intelligibility measures (CSII, CSTI, NSEC, DAU), the advanced speech-quality measure (PESQ), and several frame-based measures (e.g., SSNR). Furthermore, several additional measures are proposed. The study comprised a total number of 168 different TF-weightings, including unprocessed noisy speech. Out of all measures, the proposed frame-based measure MCC gave the best results (rho = 0.93). An additional experiment shows that the good performing measures in this study also show high correlation with the intelligibility of single-channel noise reduced speech.

  • Meeting the challenges of wild boar hunting in a modern society : The case of France
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Ambio. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0044-7447 .- 1654-7209. ; 52:8, s. 1359-1372
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Modern hunting is an ambivalent practice, torn between leisure and labor. Nowhere are these conflicting dimensions better manifested than for wild boar—a simultaneous game and pest species in many countries. Here, we consider the sociological, political and cultural phenomenon of wild boar hunting from a change perspective, starting at its historical roots to future implications concerning the changing demographics, drivers, needs and practices of a modernizing hunting community. Using the case context of France, we present an approach to deconstructing each component of wild boar hunting firstly, and subsequently the external forces that change the nature of hunting. The objective of this manuscript is to discuss of the wild boar optimal harvesting to be applied in changing social and ecological environment. Findings show that the challenges facing wild boar management will likely intensify in the future, especially under the spotlight of a controversial public debate.

  • Size-Tunable and Monodisperse Tm3+/Gd3+-Doped Hexagonal NaYbF4 Nanoparticles with Engineered Efficient Near Infrared-to-Near Infrared Upconversion for In Vivo Imaging
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1944-8244 .- 1944-8252. ; 6:16, s. 13884-13893
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hexagonal NaYbF4:Tm3+ upconversion nanoparticles hold promise for use in high contrast near-infrared-to-near-infrared (NIR-to-NIR) in vitro and in vivo bioirnaging. However, significant hurdles remain in their preparation and control of their morphology and size, as well as in enhancement of their upconversion efficiency. Here, we describe a systematic approach to produce highly controlled hexagonal NaYbF4:Tm3+ nanopartides with superior upconversion. We found that doping appropriate concentrations of trivalent gadolinium (Gd3+) can convert NaYbF4:Tm3+ 0.5% nanopartides with cubic phase and irregular shape into highly monodisperse NaYbF4:Tm3+ 0.5% nanoplates or nanospheres in a pure hexagonal-phase and of tunable size. The intensity and the lifetime of the upconverted NIR luminescence at 800 nm exhibit a direct dependence on the size distribution of the resulting nanopartides, being ascribed to the varied surface-to-volume ratios determined by the different nanoparticle size. Epitaxial growth of a thin NaYF4 shell layer of similar to 2 nm on the similar to 22 nm core of hexagonal NaYbF4:Gd3+ 30%/Tm3+ 0.5% nanoparticles resulted in a dramatic 350 fold NIR upconversion efficiency enhancement, because of effective suppression of surface-related quenching mechanisms. In vivo NIR-to-NIR upconversion imaging was demonstrated using a dispersion of phospholipid-polyethylene glycol (DSPE-PEG)-coated core/shell nanopartides in phosphate buffered saline.

  • Geography matters. Patterns of spatial homogamy in the Netherlands
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Population, Space and Place. - : Wiley. - 1544-8444 .- 1544-8452. ; 14:5, s. 387-405
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • ‘Cupid may have wings, but apparently they are not adapted for long flights.’ Studies on the spatial dimension of the partner market have found that the number of marriages declines as the distance between potential spouses increases. This paper explores the role of geographical distance in partner choice in the Netherlands. The availability of unique integral micro data from the population register enables us to study spatial homogamy among all new cohabiters. Spatial homogamy is measured by calculating distances between partners before cohabitation. The explorative study shows that geography matters: Dutch persons choose spatially homogamous partners. Spatial homogamy is influenced by demographic factors. With increasing age, spatial homogamy increases. Moreover, those who live with their parents and those who are single parents before cohabitation live significantly closer to their future partners. Spatial homogamy also exhibits a distinct spatial pattern. However, conditional on population size and geographical location, long distances between partners in peripheral areas become insignificant. Finally, the distance between partners decreases as urbanisation increases. The findings stimulate the discussionon the role of cultural factors in partner choice.

  • Front Cover: Revealing Phosphorus Nitrides up to the Megabar Regime: Synthesis of α′-P3N5, δ-P3N5 and PN2 (Chem. Eur. J. 62/2022)
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Chemistry - A European Journal. - : Wiley-VCH Verlagsgesellschaft. - 0947-6539 .- 1521-3765. ; 28:62
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • For the last 30 years, the lack of a binary phosphorus nitride containing PN6 octahedra formed a scientific chasm between carbon-group and oxygen-group nitrides, both featuring a variety of solids with XN6 units (X being a non-metal element). Now, the discovery of the δ-P3N5 and PN2 phosphorus nitrides—formed under high pressure and both composed of the elusive PN6 octahedron—builds a long-sought-after bridge between these two groups of nitrides. More information can be found in the Research Article by D. Laniel, F. Trybel, and co-workers (DOI: 10.1002/chem.202201998).

  • Supported education programming for adults with psychiatric disabilities : Results from a national survey
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Psychiatric rehabilitation journal. - : American Psychological Association (APA). - 1095-158X .- 1559-3126. ; 27:2, s. 159-167
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Over the last 10 years, supported education (SEd) programs have been the topic of many journal publications and conference presentations, but little is known about their numbers and types across the U.S. This article reports the results of a national survey of all known SEd programs, numbering over 100. The largest number was associated with clubhouses, where full and partial SEd models could be identified. On-site supported education programs were located in community colleges and universities. A dozen "free-standing" programs were also identified. Analyses documented differences across program types in services provided, budget amounts and sources, and coordination with mental health and higher educational institutions. If supported education is to move beyond a specialty program in mental health, providers need to do more to market these services and to work collaboratively with stakeholder groups to expand supported education programming.
