  • Academia and society in collaborative knowledge production towards urban sustainability : several schemes—three common crossroads
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Environment, Development and Sustainability. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1387-585X .- 1573-2975.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Arrangements for collaboration in knowledge production across academia, government, non-governmental organisations, and corporations have several names, such as citizen-science, community-based participatory research, engaged research and hybrid forums. The multiplicity of schemes does not lie only in the high number of names for various versions of collaborative knowledge production. Different scholars also use concepts in multiple ways, depending on their individual choices, mother disciplines, and the problem area in which collaboration occurs. At the same time, there is a lack of analytical tools that address the full range of collaborative research schemes and provide a systematic set of questions to learn about the schemes, challenges, and opportunities. Based on our review of academic journal articles highlighting collaborative research schemes, this paper aims to analyse three parameters which it is fair to say that virtually all arrangements of collaborative knowledge production ought to consider when making decisions, parameters that are often partially missed or misunderstood: (A) epistemic-procedural, (B) exclusive-inclusive and (C) aggregative-integrative. By examining the three parameters, their political theory origins, and how they connect to and challenge existing schemes of knowledge collaboration, we provide analytical tools that could facilitate processes of developing and scrutinising arrangements of collaborative research.

  • The Commodification of Otherness and the Ethnic Unit in the Balkans: How to Think about Albanians
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: East European Politics and Societies. - : SAGE Publications. - 0888-3254 .- 1533-8371. ; 12:3, s. 527-569
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article challenges the representations of Albanians in the context of larger European interventions during the 1990s. The use of descriptive typologies to frame analysis and inform policies results in undermining indigenous actors' abilities to contribute to the shaping of their present and future states. The resulting anxieties lead to many to adopt the underlying racist ontologies fermented often in a past era of colonialist social science work.

  • Pairwise likelihood estimation for structural equation modeling with ordinal and continuous variables
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A pairwise likelihood (PL) estimation method is developed for structural equation models (SEM) with continuous and ordinal observed variables where covariates may also be included. The proposed methodology starts off with the development of PL for estimating the mean vector and the covariance matrix of a variable vector consisting of continuous and ordinal variables. Later on a parametric structure is given to the mean vector and the covariance matrix according to a general SEM. The suggested method is demonstrated using an example with empirical data. An R code has been written which has been implemented in the R package lavaan (version 0.5-11). Maximum likelihood estimation, as implemented in Mplus (version 5.21) and in LISREL (version 9.10), is not feasible for our example due to its high computational complexity.

  • Restoring Abraham’s Foreskin : The Significance of ἀκροβυστία for Paul’s Argument about Circumcision in Romans 4:9-12
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Jesus Movement in Its Jewish Setting. - : Hebrew University; University of Oslo; DePaul University. - 2374-7862 .- 2374-7870. ; :8, s. 53-74
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In his discussion of Abraham’s circumcision (Romans 4:9-12), Paul uses the term ἀκροβυστία, or ‘foreskin’, six times, as a key part of his argument. Unfortunately, this term is something of a scholarly blind spot and is often taken as referring only to the absence of circumcision, or to a time before circumcision. However, given Paul’s usage of this term, as well as the metaphor of foreskin in the Hebrew Bible, ἀκροβυστία should be understood as a negative physical presence which marks those who do not belong to God’s people. Paul’s argument that Abraham was justified while ἐν ἀκροβυστίᾳ therefore specifically concerns gentiles, and does not make a point about πίστις or justification before circumcision. Moreover, awareness of the physical referent of the term shows that Paul describes Abraham’s circumcision as a sign that marks the foreskin. A consistent focus on the significance of ἀκροβυστία therefore offers an important correction to the common understanding of this crucial passage.

  • Tunnel Emitter Transistors
  • 2003
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The Tunnel Emitter Transistor is based on the modulation of the tunnel current in a Metal Oxide Semiconductor (MOS) structure with an ultra-thin oxide layer. The modulation is accomplished by injecting charge to the oxide-semiconductor interface from a third terminal. Its physical structure closely resembles a p-type Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor (pMOSFET) with a very thin gate dielectric, a contacted substrate and the source and drain wired together; hence it is as easy to fabricate as conventional MOSFETs. TETs work in the same temperature range as normal transistors. This thesis reports on the fabrication and characterisation of Al / SiO2 / Si TETs with a significantly higher small-signal and large-signal gain than previous work. These devices have been used mainly as a basis for constructing different device models, also presented in this thesis, from which DC and HF behaviour of devices with different designs have have been predicted. TET measurements have also been performed on pMOSFETs, showing that TETs are inherent in devices made with modern CMOS processes. There is currently no application where TETs are used, but the results in this thesis point out a new direction for TET research towards possible niche applications. That direction is a change of materials in the device. Most importantly, the dielectric should be changed to Ta2O5 or some other dielectric with similar electrical properties.

  • Machine learning approach for microbial growth kinetics analysis of acetic acid-producing bacteria isolated from organic waste
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Biochemical Engineering Journal. - 1369-703X. ; 202
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study proposes novel hybrid methodology that combines machine learning (ML) techniques with experi-mental strategies to analyse microbial growth-kinetics of acetic acid-producing bacteria isolated from fruit waste. This work employs ML algorithms to create different models such as multivariate linear regression (MLR), partial least square regression (PLSR), Kernel ridge regression (KRR), support vector regression (SVR), Gradient boosting regression (GBR) that captures time-dependent patterns of bacterial growth dynamics. Experiments for microbial growth kinetic analysis were conducted on best isolate of acid producing bacteria with different glucose con-centrations (1-5 %) at predefined operating conditions. It is found significant growth rate (mu) was obtained at 4 % and 5 % concentration of glucose from experimental work. 0.0588 h-1 and 0.0571 h-1 are the specific growth rate obtained at 4 % and 5 % glucose concentration respectively. Proposed ML models employed to predict growth rate kinetics theoretically at varied glucose concentrations. Comparative results indicate that GBR model exhibits superior performance in predicting growth kinetics than other models. GBR model fits the experimental results approximately with lower RMSE (0.004) than other models. This enables more accurate representation of growth patterns that is difficult to discernible through conventional analytical methods. This approach will help to understand growth kinetics of acetic acid-producing bacteria for resource recovery, wastewater treatment, and bioremediation.
