  • Methods for compensate lack of climate boundary data
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Proceedings XIII DBMC - XIII International Conference on Durability of Building Materials and Components. ; , s. 632-639
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Laws and regulations require that energy needs, indoor climate and moisture safety should be estimated and analyzed during the design phase, before a house is built. Available tools to predict the hygrothermal conditions need, in general, hourly exterior and interior climate boundary conditions. Available climate data sometimes consist of periods with incomplete or lack of data. The aim or this paper is to present methods in order to supplement periods with lack of data and methods in order to create diffuse, direct and long wave radiation. Presented methods to supplement and create climate data was tested in a case study in a wood frame roof. The importance of using reliable climate boundary conditions in order to estimate the hygrothermal conditions before a house was build is presented. It is shown that real climate boundary conditions need to be used to reach correlation between measured and calculated hygrothermal conditions. The need for reliable climate boundary conditions for dimensional purposes and that WUFI 5.2 can be used in a reliable manner when calculating hygrothermal conditions in wood frame roofs located in Northern European climate are shown.

  • Moisture risk evaluation and determination of required measures to avoid mould damage using the Folos 2D visual mould chart
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Conference proceedings - Thermophysics 2012. - 9788021445994 ; , s. 134-141
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There is an increased interest in and awareness of mould growth damage in buildings. Today’s mould growth models are limited to only presenting the risk of mould growth. They do not take into account underlying factors and other parameters that make it possible to establish necessary measures to limit or avoid the risk of mould growth. This paper presents a chart that can be used to determine these measures, both to reduce the risk of mould growth in buildings and, at the same time, indicate the risk of mould growth. The chart can be based on all known risk models for mould growth. No new mould growth model is presented; only an illustration of how it is possible to use known models in practical moisture safety design processes. The chart can also be used to compare different structural designs, measured and calculated values, and to show how mould growth risk prediction depends on which mould model is used.

  • ENERGY SAVING BY ADDING A GLASS-FAÇADE TO A BRICK BUILDING
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: [Host publication title missing].
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • When exploring possible energy saving measures for existing buildings different technical solutions should be investigated. In Malmö, Sweden, a 1930s hospital in a park setting has been refurbished with a general sustainability goal. For one of the buildings a glass-façade has been added to an existing 80-year old brick building. Measurements of relevant temperatures have been made including measurement of the temperature in the cavity, which is about 600 mm wide, between the glass-façade and the brick wall. The measurement period covers outdoor temperatures between -4°C and +18 °C. It can be concluded that the temperature in the air space between the glass and the brick wall is increased compared to the outdoor air temperature, this increase is between +5-20°C during 90% of the time. This means that this solution will reduce the building’s energy needs in several ways as both the transmission losses and the need for heating the ventilation air will be reduced. The energy saving in terms of kWh is also examined.
