  • Investigation on bluff-body and swirl stabilized flames near lean blowoff with PIV/PLIF measurements and LES modelling
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Applied Thermal Engineering. - : Elsevier BV. - 1359-4311. ; 160
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Lean premixed combustion (LPC) is a promising technology for low-NOx emission, while it increases the risk of blowoff at the same time. Experiments and Large Eddy Simulations (LES) on swirl stratified lean-premixed CH4/air flames were performed to study the differences between the stable and near blowoff flame. The flow fields and instantaneous flame structures were measured by simultaneous Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) and Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence (OH-PLIF). The Thickened Flame (TF) model coupled with a two-step reduced chemical mechanism was used in LES modelling. The non-dynamic formulation of sub-grid flame wrinkling model is performed well for stable condition while it cannot predict the near lean blowoff flame reasonable. Compared with the stable flame, several significant differences can be observed in the near lean blowoff flame. The height of high-temperature-zone is relatively low and the heat loss of flame attachment can be easily enhanced by the low temperature spot induced by flame-vortex interaction. The flame attachment is subject to higher excess strain rate and turbulence fluctuation. Meanwhile, a Processing Vortex Core (PVC) appears downstream of the centerline. It is concluded that lean blowoff is the result of interactions between the fuel/air mixture ignition, PVC instability and flame attachment lift-off.

  • Numerical simulation of premixed combustion using the modified dynamic thickened flame model coupled with multi-step reaction mechanism
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Fuel. - : Elsevier BV. - 0016-2361. ; 233, s. 346-353
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Thickened flame (TF) model is one of the effective methods to resolve the flame front in turbulent premixed combustion modeling. The multi-step reaction mechanism is becoming increasingly important for combustion simulations such as pollutant formation, ignition and extinction. The effect of TF model on flame structures when coupling with multi-step reaction mechanism was investigated. The simulation results show that, no matter in laminar or turbulent condition, the global TF model coupling with multi-step reaction mechanism results in an incomplete combustion, which is mainly due to the enhanced species diffusion. Although Durand and Polifke's dynamic thickened flame (DTF) sensor performs well for predicting laminar flame structure when coupling with multi-step reaction mechanism, it underestimates the effective thickening factor. In turbulent premixed flame simulation, the underestimated thickening factor leads to a faster local fuel consumption speed because of the over-predicted sub-grid flame wrinkling factor. A modified DTF sensor suitable for multi-step reaction mechanism is proposed. This sensor using the hyperbolic tangent function of progress variable to calculate thickening factor dynamically. It ensures that both the preheated and reaction zones are thickened effectively. The sub-grid wrinkling factor is hence estimated corresponding to the calculated flame thickness. Results of 1D laminar and 3D turbulent flame show that this method performs well for predicting both burned gas temperature and species concentration in burnt gas, which is important for predicting emissions.

  • Two-Dimensional Quantum Transport in Free-Standing InSb Nanosheets
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Nano Letters. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1530-6984 .- 1530-6992. ; 19:1, s. 561-569
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Low-dimensional narrow band gap III-V compound semiconductors, such as InAs and InSb, have attracted much attention as one of promising platforms for studying Majorana zero modes and non-Abelian statistics relevant for topological quantum computation. So far, most of experimental studies were performed on hybrid devices based on one-dimensional semiconductor nanowires. In order to build complex topological circuits toward scalable quantum computing, exploring high-mobility two-dimensional (2D) III-V compound electron system with strong spin-orbit coupling is highly desirable. Here, we study quantum transport in high-mobility InSb nanosheet grown by molecular-beam epitaxy. The observations of Shubnikov-de Hass oscillations and quantum Hall states, together with the angular dependence of magnetotransport measurements, provide the evidence for the 2D nature of electronic states in InSb nanosheet. The presence of strong spin-orbit coupling in the InSb nanosheet is verified by the low-field magnetotransport measurements, characterized by weak antilocalization effect. Finally, we demonstrate the realization of high-quality InSb nanosheet-superconductor junctions with transparent interface. Our results not only advance the study of 2D quantum transport but also open up opportunities for developing hybrid topological devices based on 2D semiconducting nanosheets with strong spin-orbit coupling.

  • A Co3O4-embedded porous ZnO rhombic dodecahedron prepared using zeolitic imidazolate frameworks as precursors for CO2 photoreduction
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Nanoscale. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 2040-3364 .- 2040-3372. ; 8:12, s. 6712-6720
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are attracting considerable attention for their use as both the precursor and the template to prepare metal oxides or carbon-based materials. For the first time in this paper, the core-shell ZIF-8@ZIF-67 crystals are thermally converted into porous ZnO@Co3O4 composites by combining a seed-mediated growth process with a two-step calcination. The designed porous ZnO@Co3O4 composites exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity with an excellent stability for the reduction of CO2 among the commonly reported composite photocatalysts. Their superior photocatalytic performance is demonstrated to be resulting from the unique porous structure of ZnO@Co3O4 and the co-catalytic function of Co3O4 which can effectively suppress the photocorrosion of ZnO.

  • SIKs control osteocyte responses to parathyroid hormone
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2041-1723. ; 7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Parathyroid hormone (PTH) activates receptors on osteocytes to orchestrate bone formation and resorption. Here we show that PTH inhibition of SOST (sclerostin), a WNT antagonist, requires HDAC4 and HDAC5, whereas PTH stimulation of RANKL, a stimulator of bone resorption, requires CRTC2. Salt inducible kinases (SIKs) control subcellular localization of HDAC4/5 and CRTC2. PTH regulates both HDAC4/5 and CRTC2 localization via phosphorylation and inhibition of SIK2. Like PTH, new small molecule SIK inhibitors cause decreased phosphorylation and increased nuclear translocation of HDAC4/5 and CRTC2. SIK inhibition mimics many of the effects of PTH in osteocytes as assessed by RNA-seq in cultured osteocytes and following in vivo administration. Once daily treatment with the small molecule SIK inhibitor YKL-05-099 increases bone formation and bone mass. Therefore, a major arm of PTH signalling in osteocytes involves SIK inhibition, and small molecule SIK inhibitors may be applied therapeutically to mimic skeletal effects of PTH.

  • Effect of a two-stage intervention package on the cesarean section rate in Guangzhou, China: A before-and-after study.
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: PLoS medicine. - : Public Library of Science (PLoS). - 1549-1676. ; 16:7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The cesarean section (CS) rate has risen globally during the last two decades. Effective and feasible strategies are needed to reduce it. The aim of this study was to assess the CS rate change after a two-stage intervention package that was designed to reduce the overall CS rate in Guangzhou, China. This intervention package was implemented by the Health Commission of Guangzhou Municipality in 2 stages (October 2010-September 2014 and October 2014-December 2016) and included programs for population health education, skills training for healthcare professionals, equipment and technical support for local healthcare facilities, and capacity building for the maternal near-miss care system. A retrospective repeated cross-sectional study was conducted to evaluate influences of the intervention on CS rates. A pre-intervention period from January 2008 to September 2010 served as the baseline. The primary outcome was the CS rate, and the secondary outcomes included maternal mortality ratio (MMR) and perinatal mortality rate (PMR), all obtained from the Guangzhou Perinatal Health Care and Delivery Surveillance System (GPHCDSS). The Cochran-Armitage test was used to examine the trends of the overall CS rate, MMR, and PMR across different stages. Segmented linear regression analysis was used to assess the change of the CS rate over the intervention period. A total of 1,921,932 records of births and 108 monthly CS rates from 2008 to 2016 were analyzed. The monthly CS rate declined across the intervention stages (Z = 75.067, p < 0.001), with an average rate of 42.4% at baseline, 39.8% at Stage 1, and 35.0% at Stage 2. The CS rate declined substantially among nulliparous women who delivered term singletons, with an accelerating decreasing trend observed across Stage 1 and Stage 2 (the difference in slopes: -0.09 [95% CI -0.16 to -0.02] between Stage 1 and baseline, p = 0.014; -0.11 [95% CI -0.20 to -0.02] between Stage 1 and Stage 2, p = 0.017). The CS rate in the remaining population increased during baseline and Stage 1 and subsequently decreased during Stage 2. The sensitivity analysis suggested no immediate impact of the universal two-child policy on the trend of the CS rate. The MMR (Z = -4.368, p < 0.001) and PMR (Z = -13.142, p < 0.001) declined by stage over the intervention period. One of the main limitations of the study is the lack of a parallel control group. Moreover, the influence of temporal changes in the study population on the CS rate was unknown. Given the observational nature of the present study, causality cannot be confirmed.Apparent decline in the overall CS rate was observed in Guangzhou, China, after the implementation of a two-stage intervention package. The decline was most evident among nulliparous women who delivered term singletons. Despite some limitations for causal inference, Guangzhou's experience in controlling the CS rate by implementing composite interventions with public health education and perinatal healthcare service improvement could have implications for other similar areas with high rates of CS.
