  • Measurements of (XcJ)-> K+K-K+K- decays
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 642:3, s. 197-202
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using 14M psi(2S) events taken with the BESII detector, chi(cJ) -> 2(K+K-) decays are studied. For the four-kaon final state, the branching fractions are B(chi(c0,1,2) ->.2(K+K-)) = (3.48 +/- 0.23 +/- 0.47) x 10(-3), (0.70 +/- 0.13 +/- 0.10) x 10(-3), and (2.17 +/- 0.20 +/- 0.31) x 10(-3). For the phi K+K- final state, the branching fractions, which are measured for the first time, are B(chi(c0,1,2) -> phi K+K-) = (1.03 +/- 0.22 +/- 0.15) x 10(-3), (0.46 +/- 0.16 +/- 0.06) x 10(-3), and (1.67 +/- 0.26 +/- 0.24) x 10(-4). For the phi phi final state, B(chi(c0,2) -> phi phi) = (0.94 +/- 0.21 +/- 0.13) x 10(-3) and (1.70 +/- 0.30 +/- 0.25) x 10(-3).

  • Modified regularization method applied to the inversion of particle size distribution from light scattering data
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Guangdian Gongcheng. - 1003-501X. ; 33:12, s. 44-49
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Laser particle size analyzer is one of the instruments for particle size analysis. Recent developments focus on various algorithms for particle size analysis via light energy distribution based on the Mie scattering theory in the laser analyzer. The determination of the particle size distribution (PSD) from the analyzer requires the inversion of the Fredholm integral equation of the first kind. This equation is an ill-posed one, which can be analyzed by effective algorithms. This paper presents a modified regularization method applied to the inversion of the PSD with the independent models. The Generalized Cross-Validation (GCV) method was used for the selection of a regularization parameter. The Successive Over-Relaxation (SOR) iterative method was applied to improve the exactness and stability of the convergent result. The simulation with the models was carried out. The simulated results are in a good agreement with the data measured from nine standard particulate samples as well as their mixtures. It is indicated that this method can be feasible and effective for the simulation of the PSD from the corresponding light scattering data.

  • Photolockable Ratiometric Viscosity Sensitivity of Cyclodextrin Polypseudorotaxane with Light-Active Rotor Graft
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Langmuir. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0743-7463 .- 1520-5827. ; 25:6, s. 3482-3486
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A prototype, based on light-active fluorescent rotor grafted to beta-cyclodextrin, shows a good solvent viscosity-sensitive behavior due to the environment-dependent nonradiative decay. With the reversible photoisomerization of the cyanostilbene unit, the viscosity sensitivity of the molecular rotor could be locked and activated, and the two switchable states can be distinguished by fluorescent signals. This cyclodextrin derivative was threaded to form a novel polypseudorotaxane. Such supramolecular assembly displays a lockable ratiometric fluorescent viscosity sensitivity with two emission channels: one aroused by fluorophore's intramolecular excimer without influenced by viscosity is used to gauge the concentration of the compound, while the other corresponding to the monomer's rotor fluorescence acts as a viscosity-sensitive signal and it can be shut off by UV irradiation.

  • Combined performance tests before installation of the ATLAS Semiconductor and Transition Radiation Tracking Detectors
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of Instrumentation. - 1748-0221. ; 3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The ATLAS (A Toroidal LHC ApparatuS) Inner Detector provides charged particle tracking in the centre of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The Inner Detector consists of three subdetectors: the Pixel Detector, the Semiconductor Tracker (SCT), and the Transition Radiation Tracker (TRT). This paper summarizes the tests that were carried out at the final stage of SCT+TRT integration prior to their installation in ATLAS. The combined operation and performance of the SCT and TRT barrel and endcap detectors was investigated through a series of noise tests, and by recording the tracks of cosmic rays. This was a crucial test of hardware and software of the combined tracker detector systems. The results of noise and cross-talk tests on the SCT and TRT in their final assembled configuration, using final readout and supply hardware and software, are reported. The reconstruction and analysis of the recorded cosmic tracks allowed testing of the offline analysis chain and verification of basic tracker performance parameters, such as efficiency and spatial resolution, in combined operation before installation.

  • A genomic view of the sea urchin nervous system
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Developmental Biology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0012-1606 .- 1095-564X. ; 300:1, s. 434-460
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The sequencing of the Strongylocentrotus purpuratus genome provides a unique opportunity to investigate the function and evolution of neural genes. The neurobiology of sea urchins is of particular interest because they have a close phylogenetic relationship with chordates, yet a distinctive pentaradiate body plan and unusual neural organization. Orthologues of transcription factors that regulate neurogenesis in other animals have been identified and several are expressed in neurogenic domains before gastrulation indicating that they may operate near the top of a conserved neural gene regulatory network. A family of genes encoding voltage-gated ion channels is present but, surprisingly, genes encoding gap junction proteins (connexins and pannexins) appear to be absent. Genes required for synapse formation and function have been identified and genes for synthesis and transport of neurotransmitters are present. There is a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors, including 874 rhodopsin-type receptors, 28 metabotropic glutamate-like receptors and a remarkably expanded group of 161 secretin receptor-like proteins. Absence of cannabinoid, lysophospholipid and melanocortin receptors indicates that this group may be unique to chordates. There are at least 37 putative G-protein-coupled peptide receptors and precursors for several neuropeptides and peptide hormones have been identified, including SALMFamides, NGFFFamide, a vasotocin-like peptide, glycoprotein hormones and insulin/insulin-like growth factors. Identification of a neurotrophin-like gene and Trk receptor in sea urchin indicates that this neural signaling system is not unique to chordates. Several hundred chemoreceptor genes have been predicted using several approaches, a number similar to that for other animals. Intriguingly, genes encoding homologues of rhodopsin, Pax6 and several other key mammalian retinal transcription factors are expressed in tube feet, suggesting tube feet function as photosensory organs. Analysis of the sea urchin genome presents a unique perspective on the evolutionary history of deuterostome nervous systems and reveals new approaches to investigate the development and neurobiology of sea urchins. • The 5 ' Region of the MSH2 gene involved in hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer contains a high density of recombinogenic sequences
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Human Mutation. - : Hindawi Limited. - 1059-7794 .- 1098-1004. ; 26:3, s. 255-261
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • MSH2 rearrangements are involved in approximately 10% of hereditary non,polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC) families, and in most of the rearrangements, exon I is deleted. We scanned by quantitative multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of short fluorescent fragments (QMPSF) 200 kb of genomic sequences upstream of the MSH2 transcription initiation site in 21 HNPCC families with exon I deletions. This QMPSF scan revealed 12 distinct 5' breakpoints located up to 200 kb upstream of the MSH2 transcription initiation site. Sequencing analysis of the rearranged allele in 17 families revealed that most of the deletions (15/17) resulted from homologous Alu-mediated recombination. QMPSF and sequencing analysis in these 21 families led us to detect the presence of 20 distinct 5' breakpoints. In 14 out of 15 Alu-mediated recombinations, we found, either within the identical region in which the recombination had probably occurred or in its vicinity, the 26,bp Alu core sequence containing the recombinogenic Chi-like motif. Compared to the equivalent regions of other human genes, the MSH2 upstream region was found to contain a high density of Alu repeats (30% within 228 kb and 43% within 50 kb), most of which belong to the old Alu S subfamilies. In conclusion, this study demonstrates the heterogeneity of the breakpoints within the MSH2 upstream region and reveals the remarkable density of recombinogenic Alu sequences in this region.
