- This article analyzes the Polish police narrative on Roma during the interwar time, unveiling attitudes and potential practices. According to the police journals and handbooks, Roma were mobile and disposed to theft and deceit. Their tradtitional crafts were merely a smoke screen for illicit activities. As countermeasures, searches for caravans, meticulous checks of identity documents, indicriminate fingerprinting of Roma suspects, among several measures, were recommended. This narrative constituted a part of a larger police professional discourse and is likely to be an indicator of practices on Roma. Polish police followed the contemporary European expertise on Roma produced by the fileds of criminalistics and criminology. As there were no dicriminatory laws targeting Roma in Poland, it appears that police used legislation against begging and vagrancy, among other tactics.

- Vid första världskrigets slut uppstod en rad nya stater i Östersjöområdet – den geografiskt största av dem var det nygamla Polen. Landet ställdes genast inför uppgiften att finna fotfäste och säkerhet i en föränderlig och oberäknelig omvärld. Att utvärdera andra stater i närregionen och deras försvarsförmåga blev en del av det grundläggande polska säkerhetsarbetet.I Med polska ögon analyserar militärhistorikern Piotr Wawrzeniuk hur Sveriges, Finlands och Estlands försvarsförmågor framställdes i polsk militärrapportering. Med fokus på mindre staters typiska beteende i en utdragen, konfliktfylld situation beskriver han hur de närstående försvarsmakterna tedde sig utifrån polska intressen. Vad kännetecknade de andras officerskårer, manskap och materiel? Hur skulle dessa försvarsmakter klara det moderna slagfältets utmaningar?Wawrzeniuk konstaterar att de fylliga rapporterna om ländernas samhällsstrukturer och försvarsmakter i hög grad präglades av polska nationella föreställningar och farhågor. Dokumenten speglar bitvis på så sätt kanske snarare polska utgångspunkter än redovisar objektiva intryck. Samtidigt är det tydligt att polackerna hade tagit intryck av sina militära kollegors lägesbilder i de tre granskade länderna. Lärdomarna blev en viktig del i det polska säkerhetsarbetet, där Sverige, Finland och Estland bedömdes vara bidragande till den polska säkerheten i Östersjöområdet.

- This study offers the first analysis of anti-Roma propaganda in the District of Galicia (Distrikt Galizien, the DG), a part of the GeneralGovernment (Das Generalgouvernement, the GG), by studying thedailies and several periodicals published in the District. It constitutes the first step in studying anti-Roma propaganda in the GG. While the wartime anti-Roma propaganda employed the pre-war images of Roma, those were manipulated, distorted and radicalized in accordance to the needs of the Nazi regime in the DG. The radicalization in the press paralleled introduction of regulations with anti-Roma edge and scaling up of Roma persecution in the GG. By 1943, the propaganda pieces alluded to solving “the Gypsy question” in the way that “the Jewish question” had been solved.

- The article discusses visions of future warfare articulated in recent Russian military publications. There seems to be agreement among Russian scholars that future war will be triggered by Western attempts to promote Western political and economic interests while holding back Russia's resurgence as a global power. The future war with the West is viewed as inevitable in one form or another, whether it is subversion and local wars or large-scale conventional war. While the danger of conventional war has declined, according to several scholars, the West is understood to have a wide range of non-kinetic means at its disposal that threaten Russia. In order to withstand future dangers, Russia has to be able to meet a large number of kinetic and non-kinetic threats at home and abroad. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
