  • K_{S}^{0} and Λ Production in Pb-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=2.76 TeV.
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 111:22
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The ALICE measurement of K_{S}^{0} and Λ production at midrapidity in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=2.76 TeV is presented. The transverse momentum (p_{T}) spectra are shown for several collision centrality intervals and in the p_{T} range from 0.4 GeV/c (0.6 GeV/c for Λ) to 12 GeV/c. The p_{T} dependence of the Λ/K_{S}^{0} ratios exhibits maxima in the vicinity of 3 GeV/c, and the positions of the maxima shift towards higher p_{T} with increasing collision centrality. The magnitude of these maxima increases by almost a factor of three between most peripheral and most central Pb-Pb collisions. This baryon excess at intermediate p_{T} is not observed in pp interactions at sqrt[s]=0.9 TeV and at sqrt[s]=7 TeV. Qualitatively, the baryon enhancement in heavy-ion collisions is expected from radial flow. However, the measured p_{T} spectra above 2 GeV/c progressively decouple from hydrodynamical-model calculations. For higher values of p_{T}, models that incorporate the influence of the medium on the fragmentation and hadronization processes describe qualitatively the p_{T} dependence of the Λ/K_{S}^{0} ratio.

  • Measurement of electrons from semileptonic heavy-flavor hadron decays in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D (Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology). - 1550-2368. ; 86:11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The differential production cross section of electrons from semileptonic heavy-flavor hadron decays has been measured at midrapidity (\y\ < 0.5) in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV with ALICE at the LHC. Electrons were measured in the transverse momentum range 0.5 < p(t) < 8 GeV/c. Predictions from a fixed-order perturbative QCD calculation with next-to-leading-log resummation agree with the data within the theoretical and experimental uncertainties. • Galactoglucomannan-degrading enzymes from Aspergillus niger
  • 2000
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Galactoglucomannan and galactomannan are among the most abundant plant polysaccharides in nature. The central enzymes involved in their degradation, i.e., endo-1,4-beta-mannanase (beta-mannanase, EC 3.2.1.78), beta-mannosidase (EC 3.2.1.25), and alpha-galactosidase (EC 3.2.1.22) were purified from the filamentous fungus Aspergillus niger and characterized with respect to physical properties and substrate specificity. The beta-mannanase degraded polymeric ivory nut mannan to mainly mannobiose and mannotriose, and NMR analysis of the hydrolysis of mannopentaose showed that it acts by the retaining mechanism. Unlike some other beta-mannanases it probably lacks a cellulose-binding domain, since it was unable to adsorb on cellulose. The preferred substrates for the beta-mannosidase (MndA) were linear manno-oligosaccharides, but it also hydrolyzed terminal non-reducing mannose residues from polymeric mannan and galactomannan. It was able to cleave up to, but not beyond, a galactose side group. Two alpha-galactosidases (AglB and AglC) with different substrate specificities were purified. AglC had a strong preference for terminal non-reducing galactose residues, whereas AglB hydrolyzed galactose residues linked to terminal as well as internal residues of the substrate main chain. The cooperation of individual enzymes during degradation of polymeric mannan, galactomannan, and galactomanno-oligosaccharides were investigated. The genes encoding AglC and MndA were cloned, characterized, and overexpressed in A. niger. On the basis of sequence comparisons, AglC could be assigned to family 36 of the glycosyl hydrolases and MndA could be assigned to family 2. The expression patterns of three alpha-galactosidase genes (aglA, aglB, and aglC) and a beta-mannosidase gene (mndA) during growth of A. niger on different carbon sources were studied by Northern analysis. The aglB and mndA genes were expressed early and in high levels on galactomannan, indicating that the corresponding enzymes play a key role in the degradation of this polymer.

  • Symposium on Rewriting Histories of the Use of Force: Conflicts of Interest in International Law Scholarship – Addressing An Indifference to Capitalist Imperialism
  • 2023
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • It is possible that the way 19th century International Law (IL) scholars responded to a transition from multipolar governances to North Atlantic state hegemony acknowledges a struggle between the primary agents of capital benefiting from this emerging modern state and those set to lose out. Throughout this period, the would-be profiteers of empire  struggled against fiscal conservatives, the European ‘proletariat’ expected to both labor cheaply and fight in their empire’s wars, and finally the peoples of the larger world whose resources would face capitalist plunder. By claiming a role in this transformation of the Euro-American modern state, IL scholars often adapted ‘principles’ that aimed to further the advantages gained from a push toward a global ‘monopoly of violence’ characteristic of 19th century capitalist imperialism.

  • A thermostable GH26 endo-β-mannanase from Myceliophthora thermophila capable of enhancing lignocellulose degradation
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0175-7598 .- 1432-0614. ; 100:19, s. 8385-8397
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The endomannanase gene em26a from the thermophilic fungus Myceliophthora thermophila, belonging to the glycoside hydrolase family 26, was functionally expressed in the methylotrophic yeast Pichia pastoris. The putative endomannanase, dubbed MtMan26A, was purified to homogeneity (60 kDa) and subsequently characterized. The optimum pH and temperature for the enzymatic activity of MtMan26A were 6.0 and 60 °C, respectively. MtMan26A showed high specific activity against konjac glucomannan and carob galactomannan, while it also exhibited high thermal stability with a half-life of 14.4 h at 60 °C. Thermostability is of great importance, especially in industrial processes where harsh conditions are employed. With the aim of better understanding its structure–function relationships, a homology model of MtMan26A was constructed, based on the crystallographic structure of a close homologue. Finally, the addition of MtMan26A as a supplement to the commercial enzyme mixture Celluclast® 1.5 L and Novozyme® 188 resulted in enhanced enzymatic hydrolysis of pretreated beechwood sawdust, improving the release of total reducing sugars and glucose by 13 and 12 %, respectively.

  • Tunnel Emitter Transistors
  • 2003
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The Tunnel Emitter Transistor is based on the modulation of the tunnel current in a Metal Oxide Semiconductor (MOS) structure with an ultra-thin oxide layer. The modulation is accomplished by injecting charge to the oxide-semiconductor interface from a third terminal. Its physical structure closely resembles a p-type Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor (pMOSFET) with a very thin gate dielectric, a contacted substrate and the source and drain wired together; hence it is as easy to fabricate as conventional MOSFETs. TETs work in the same temperature range as normal transistors. This thesis reports on the fabrication and characterisation of Al / SiO2 / Si TETs with a significantly higher small-signal and large-signal gain than previous work. These devices have been used mainly as a basis for constructing different device models, also presented in this thesis, from which DC and HF behaviour of devices with different designs have have been predicted. TET measurements have also been performed on pMOSFETs, showing that TETs are inherent in devices made with modern CMOS processes. There is currently no application where TETs are used, but the results in this thesis point out a new direction for TET research towards possible niche applications. That direction is a change of materials in the device. Most importantly, the dielectric should be changed to Ta2O5 or some other dielectric with similar electrical properties.
