  • Identification and analysis of functional elements in 1% of the human genome by the ENCODE pilot project
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Nature. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0028-0836 .- 1476-4687. ; 447:7146, s. 799-816
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report the generation and analysis of functional data from multiple, diverse experiments performed on a targeted 1% of the human genome as part of the pilot phase of the ENCODE Project. These data have been further integrated and augmented by a number of evolutionary and computational analyses. Together, our results advance the collective knowledge about human genome function in several major areas. First, our studies provide convincing evidence that the genome is pervasively transcribed, such that the majority of its bases can be found in primary transcripts, including non-protein-coding transcripts, and those that extensively overlap one another. Second, systematic examination of transcriptional regulation has yielded new understanding about transcription start sites, including their relationship to specific regulatory sequences and features of chromatin accessibility and histone modification. Third, a more sophisticated view of chromatin structure has emerged, including its inter-relationship with DNA replication and transcriptional regulation. Finally, integration of these new sources of information, in particular with respect to mammalian evolution based on inter- and intra-species sequence comparisons, has yielded new mechanistic and evolutionary insights concerning the functional landscape of the human genome. Together, these studies are defining a path for pursuit of a more comprehensive characterization of human genome function.

  • Charge order suppression and weak ferromagnetism in La1/3Sr2/3FeO3 nanoparticles
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : American Institute of Physics (AIP). - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 91:7, s. 072504-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Perovskite-type polycrystalline La1/3Sr2/3FeO3 particles with different sizes (80-2000 nm) were prepared using a simple sol-gel technique. In samples of nanoparticles with a diameter of less than 300 nm, weak ferromagnetism was observed at room temperature, which was attributed to the lattice distortion. The magnetic and specific heat measurements suggest that the charge ordering state was largely suppressed due to the lowering of the particle size, but the charge ordering temperature remained unaffected. • Synthesis, structures and electrochemical properties of amino-derivatives of diiron azadithiolates as active site models of Fe-only hydrogenase
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Inorganica Chimica Acta. - : Elsevier BV. - 0020-1693 .- 1873-3255. ; 359:4, s. 1071-1080
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The preparation and characterization of two novel amino-incorporated sulfur-bridged dinuclear iron (I) complexes of the type [NR(mu-SCH2)2]Fe-2(CO)(6), one being amino protected [N(CH2CH2NHTs)(mu-SCH2)(2)]Fe-2(CO)(6) (8) and the other [(mu-SCH2)(2)Fe-2(-CO)(6)NCH2CH2N (mu-SCH2)(2)]Fe-2(CO)(6) (9) are described. These two complexes are readily prepared in a S(N)2 manner between double lithium anion and bis(chloromethyl) amine derivatives. The structures of 8 and 9 were characterized by IR, H-1, C-13 NMR, MS and HRMS spectra and further determined by X-ray analyses. Protonation of complex 8 gave the mono N-protonated product, while for 9 the protonation occurred in both of the N atoms. The redox properties were evaluated by cyclic voltammograms. It was shown that these two complexes can catalyze electrochemical reduction of proton to molecular hydrogen.

  • Scattering database in the millimeter and submillimeter wave range of 100-1000 GHz for nonspherical ice particles
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Journal of Geophysical Research. - 0148-0227 .- 2156-2202. ; 114, s. D06201-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The inference of ice cloud properties from spaceborne sensors is sensitive to the retrieval algorithms and satellite sensors used. To approach a better understanding of ice cloud properties, it is necessary to combine satellite measurements from multiple platforms and sensors operating in visible, infrared, and millimeter and submillimeter-wave regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. The single-scattering properties of ice particles with consistent ice particle models are the basis for estimating the optical and microphysical properties of ice clouds from multiple satellite sensors. In this study, the single-scattering properties (extinction efficiency, absorption efficiency, single-scattering albedo, asymmetry factor, and scattering phase matrix) of nonspherical ice particles, assumed to be hexagonal solid and hollow columns, hexagonal plates, 3D bullet rosettes, aggregates, and droxtals, are computed from the discrete dipole approximation method for 21 millimeter and submillimeter-wave frequencies ranging from 100 to 1000 GHz. A database of the single-scattering properties of nonspherical ice particles are developed for 38 particle sizes ranging from 2 to 2000 μm in terms of particle maximum dimension. The bulk scattering properties of ice clouds consisting of various ice particles, which are the fundamental to the radiative transfer in ice clouds, are developed on the basis of a set of 1119 particle size distributions obtained from various field campaigns.

  • Preparation of aligned Ca3Co2O6 nanorods and their steplike magnetization
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : American Institute of Physics (AIP). - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 91:4, s. 042505-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Well-aligned Ca3Co2O6 nanorods (similar to 300 nm in length and similar to 40 nm in diameter) on Si substrates are prepared by pulsed laser deposition. The steplike magnetization feature as identified in bulk Ca3Co2O6 can be retained in the nanorods in spite of the enhanced distortion of the magnetically ordered spin chains due to the finite size effect. The out-of-plane magnetization value is slightly larger than the in-plane value, which shows the small magnetic anisotropy. An additional distinct transition at 54 K associated with the spin frustration is revealed, different from the bulk samples. (C) 2007 American Institute of Physics.
