  • Infrared Emissivity Measurement for Vertically Aligned Multiwall Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) Based Heat Spreader Applied in High Power Electronics Packaging
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 6th Electronic System-integration Technology Conference (ESTC 2016). - 9781509014026 ; , s. Article no 7764696-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Vertically-aligned multiwall carbon nanotubes were deposited on silicon substrate by low pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD), which can be utilized as heat spreaders in high power electronic packaging due to their remarkable thermal conductivity. The infrared emissivity of the vertically aligned multiwall carbon nanotubes was then characterized based on the FLIR SC600 infrared imaging system. The average infrared emissivity of the multiwall carbon nanotubes sample was about 0.92, which agrees well with experimental results reported before. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images of the multiwall carbon nanotubes were further analyzed to explain its high emissivity, and the reason can be attributed to the homogeneous sparseness and aligned structure of the vertically aligned multiwall carbon nanotubes

  • Preventing Aging of Electrically Conductive Adhesives on Metal Substrate Using Graphene-Based Barrier
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: China Semiconductor Technology International Conference 2016, CSTIC 2016. - 9781467388047
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Electrically conductive adhesives (ECAs) seem to be a promising substitute to traditional metal-based solders, because of them being environmentally friendly materials requiring much lower processing temperatures, and offering a much finer pitch. However, a critical problem related to the use of ECAs is that the contact resistance to the metal pad tends to increase significantly during aging tests due to galvanic corrosion, particularly in 85oC/85% relative humidity (RH) atmospheres. In this respect the reported impermeability of graphene, a property prohibiting most molecules including water vapor from penetrating the film, has made graphene a major candidate as an anti-corrosion barrier material. The use of graphene as an anti-corrosion barrier material on steel and other metals has already been reported in literature. In this paper, the use of graphene-based barriers[12] between the ECA and the copper pads on a printed circuit board for alleviating the galvanic corrosion problem is reported. A PCB test board was designed for monitoring the effects of introducing the graphene-based barrier on the contact resistance between ECA and copper while exposing the board to a 500 hour aging test in 85℃/85% RH. For samples without graphene-based barriers it was found that the contact resistance increased rapidly during the first 200 hours of the aging test, while the contact resistance for samples with the graphene-based barriers remained stable. For these samples with graphene-based barriers, the contact resistance showed a much smaller decay during the aging test than for those samples without graphene-based barriers. These findings indicate that graphene-based barriers could be a solution for improving the reliability of electrically conductive adhesives, especially in harsh 85oC/85% RH environment conditions.

  • Trans-ancestry genome-wide association study identifies 12 genetic loci influencing blood pressure and implicates a role for DNA methylation
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Nature Genetics. - : Nature Publishing Group. - 1061-4036 .- 1546-1718. ; 47:11, s. 1282-1293
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We carried out a trans-ancestry genome-wide association and replication study of blood pressure phenotypes among up to 320,251 individuals of East Asian, European and South Asian ancestry. We find genetic variants at 12 new loci to be associated with blood pressure (P = 3.9 × 10−11 to 5.0 × 10−21). The sentinel blood pressure SNPs are enriched for association with DNA methylation at multiple nearby CpG sites, suggesting that, at some of the loci identified, DNA methylation may lie on the regulatory pathway linking sequence variation to blood pressure. The sentinel SNPs at the 12 new loci point to genes involved in vascular smooth muscle (IGFBP3, KCNK3, PDE3A and PRDM6) and renal (ARHGAP24, OSR1, SLC22A7 and TBX2) function. The new and known genetic variants predict increased left ventricular mass, circulating levels of NT-proBNP, and cardiovascular and all-cause mortality (P = 0.04 to 8.6 × 10−6). Our results provide new evidence for the role of DNA methylation in blood pressure regulation.

  • Band-inverted gaps in InAs/GaSb and GaSb/InAs core-shell nanowires
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2045-2322. ; 6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The [111]-oriented InAs/GaSb and GaSb/InAs core-shell nanowires have been studied by the 8 × 8 Luttinger-Kohn "Equation missing" Hamiltonian to search for non-vanishing fundamental gaps between inverted electron and hole bands. We focus on the variations of the band-inverted fundamental gap, the hybridization gap, and the effective gap with the core radius and shell thickness of the nanowires. The evolutions of all the energy gaps with the structural parameters are shown to be dominantly governed by the effect of quantum confinement. With a fixed core radius, a band-inverted fundamental gap exists only at intermediate shell thicknesses. The maximum band-inverted gap found is ~4.4 meV for GaSb/InAs and ~3.5 meV for InAs/GaSb core-shell nanowires, and for the GaSb/InAs core-shell nanowires the gap persists over a wider range of geometrical parameters. The intrinsic reason for these differences between the two types of nanowires is that in the shell the electron-like states of InAs is more delocalized than the hole-like state of GaSb, while in the core the hole-like state of GaSb is more delocalized than the electron-like state of InAs, and both favor a stronger electron-hole hybridization.

  • Bark Beetle-Associated Blue-Stain Fungi Increase Antioxidant Enzyme Activities and Monoterpene Concentrations in Pinus yunnanensis
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Plant Science. - : Frontiers Media S.A.. - 1664-462X. ; 9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Yunnan pine is the most important tree species in SW China in both economical and ecological terms, but it is often killed by pine shoot beetles (Tomicus spp.). Tomicus beetles are secondary pests in temperate regions and the aggressiveness of the beetles in SW China is considered to be due to the warm subtropical climates as well as the beetles' virulent fungal associates. Here, we assessed the virulence of three blue-stain fungi (Leptographium wushanense, L. sinense and Ophiostoma canum) associated with pine shoot beetles to Yunnan pine (Pinus yunnanensis) in SW China. Following fungal inoculation, we measured necrotic lesion lengths, antioxidant enzyme activities and monoterpene concentrations in the stem phloem of Yunnan pine. Leptographium wushanense induced twice as long lesions as L. sinense and O. canum, and all three fungi induced significantly longer lesions than sterile agar control inoculations. The activity of three tested antioxidant enzymes (peroxidase, polyphenol oxidase, and superoxide dismutase) increased after both fungal inoculation and control inoculation. However, L. wushanense and L. sinense generally caused a greater increase in enzyme activities than O. canum and the control treatment. Fungal inoculation induced stronger increases in six major monoterpenes than the control treatment, but the difference was significant only for some fungus-monoterpene combinations. Overall, our results show that L. wushanense and L. sinense elicit stronger defense responses and thus are more virulent to Yunnan pine than O. canum. The two Leptographium species may thus contribute to the aggressiveness of their beetle vectors and could damage Yunnan pine across SW China if they spread from the restricted geographical area they have been found in so far.

  • SERPINA4 is a novel independent prognostic indicator and a potential therapeutic target for colorectal cancer
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: American Journal of Cancer Research. - Madison : E-CENTURY PUBLISHING CORP. - 2156-6976. ; 6:8, s. 1636-1649
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Serpina family A member 4 (SERPINA4), also known as kallistatin, exerts important effects in inhibiting tumor growth and angiogenesis in many malignancies. However, the precise role of SERPINA4 in CRC has not been fully elucidated. The present study aimed to investigate the expression of SERPINA4 and its clinical significance in CRC. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blot analyses showed that the mRNA and protein expression of SERPINA4 in colorectal cancer (CRC) specimens was significantly decreased than that in adjacent normal mucosa. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was conducted to characterize the expression pattern of SERPINA4 by using a tissue microarray (TMA) containing 327 archived paraffin-embedded CRC specimens. Statistical analyses revealed that decreased SERPINA4 expression was significantly associated with invasion depth, nodal involvement, distant metastasis, American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) stage, and tumor differentiation. SERPINA4 was also an independent prognostic indicator of disease-free survival and overall survival in patients with CRC. Furthermore, the impact of altered SERPINA4 expression on CRC cells was analyzed with a series of in vitro and in vivo assays. The results demonstrated that SERPINA4 significantly inhibits malignant tumor progression and serves as a novel prognostic indicator and a potential therapeutic target for CRC.

  • Bioengineered tumor microenvironments with naked mole rats high-molecular-weight hyaluronan induces apoptosis in breast cancer cells
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Oncogene. - : NATURE PUBLISHING GROUP. - 0950-9232 .- 1476-5594. ; 38:22, s. 4297-4309
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The naked mole rat (nmr) is cancer resistant due to the abundant production of extremely high-molecular-weight hyaluronan (EHMW-HA). However, whether EHMW-HA has similar anti-cancer effects in mice and humans remains to be determined. The present study used breast cancer cells to clarify the effect of EHMW-HA on breast cancer. First, the overexpression of nmrHas2 in 4T1 and BT549 cell lines in both two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) models to mimic tumor microenvironment was established. The 4T1/BT549-nmrHas2 cells could secrete EHMW-HA (with a molecular weight of up to 6 MDa), which was similar to that found in the naked mole rat. Second, EHMW-HA altering tumor microenvironment in both 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids significantly enhanced apoptosis, inhibiting the proliferation of 4T1 and BT549 cells. The prominent anticancer effects of EHMW-HA on the cancer-cell apoptosis phenotype were further confirmed by inhibiting tumor formation in nude mice. Finally, EHMW-HA significantly induced higher p53 protein expression, which enhanced pro-apoptotic proteins p21 and Bax in breast cancer cells; this is in contrast with the triggering of hypersensitivity of the naked mole rat cells to early contact inhibition (ECI). These results have important implications for the design of therapeutic approaches based on the application of EHMW-HA.
