  • Measurements of (XcJ)-> K+K-K+K- decays
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 642:3, s. 197-202
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using 14M psi(2S) events taken with the BESII detector, chi(cJ) -> 2(K+K-) decays are studied. For the four-kaon final state, the branching fractions are B(chi(c0,1,2) ->.2(K+K-)) = (3.48 +/- 0.23 +/- 0.47) x 10(-3), (0.70 +/- 0.13 +/- 0.10) x 10(-3), and (2.17 +/- 0.20 +/- 0.31) x 10(-3). For the phi K+K- final state, the branching fractions, which are measured for the first time, are B(chi(c0,1,2) -> phi K+K-) = (1.03 +/- 0.22 +/- 0.15) x 10(-3), (0.46 +/- 0.16 +/- 0.06) x 10(-3), and (1.67 +/- 0.26 +/- 0.24) x 10(-4). For the phi phi final state, B(chi(c0,2) -> phi phi) = (0.94 +/- 0.21 +/- 0.13) x 10(-3) and (1.70 +/- 0.30 +/- 0.25) x 10(-3).

  • Measurement of the eta -> 3 pi(0) Dalitz plot distribution with the WASA detector at COSY
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 677:1-2, s. 24-29
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the first production run of the WASA experiment at COSY, the eta decay into three neutral pions was measured in proton-proton interactions at a proton beam kinetic energy of 1.4 GeV. The Dalitz plot of the three pious was Studied using 1.2 x 10(5) fully reconstructed events. and the quadratic slope parameter alpha was determined to be -0.027 +/- 0.008(stat) +/- 0.005(syst). The result is consistent with previous measurements and further corroborates the importance of pion-pion final state interactions. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Genome-wide association study identifies eight loci associated with blood pressure
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Nature Genetics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1546-1718 .- 1061-4036. ; 41:6, s. 666-676
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Elevated blood pressure is a common, heritable cause of cardiovascular disease worldwide. To date, identification of common genetic variants influencing blood pressure has proven challenging. We tested 2.5 million genotyped and imputed SNPs for association with systolic and diastolic blood pressure in 34,433 subjects of European ancestry from the Global BPgen consortium and followed up findings with direct genotyping (N <= 71,225 European ancestry, N <= 12,889 Indian Asian ancestry) and in silico comparison (CHARGE consortium, N 29,136). We identified association between systolic or diastolic blood pressure and common variants in eight regions near the CYP17A1 (P = 7 x 10(-24)), CYP1A2 (P = 1 x 10(-23)), FGF5 (P = 1 x 10(-21)), SH2B3 (P = 3 x 10(-18)), MTHFR (P = 2 x 10(-13)), c10orf107 (P = 1 x 10(-9)), ZNF652 (P = 5 x 10(-9)) and PLCD3 (P = 1 x 10(-8)) genes. All variants associated with continuous blood pressure were associated with dichotomous hypertension. These associations between common variants and blood pressure and hypertension offer mechanistic insights into the regulation of blood pressure and may point to novel targets for interventions to prevent cardiovascular disease.

  • Genome-wide association scan meta-analysis identifies three Loci influencing adiposity and fat distribution.
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: PLoS genetics. - : Public Library of Science (PLoS). - 1553-7404. ; 5:6, s. e1000508-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To identify genetic loci influencing central obesity and fat distribution, we performed a meta-analysis of 16 genome-wide association studies (GWAS, N = 38,580) informative for adult waist circumference (WC) and waist-hip ratio (WHR). We selected 26 SNPs for follow-up, for which the evidence of association with measures of central adiposity (WC and/or WHR) was strong and disproportionate to that for overall adiposity or height. Follow-up studies in a maximum of 70,689 individuals identified two loci strongly associated with measures of central adiposity; these map near TFAP2B (WC, P = 1.9x10(-11)) and MSRA (WC, P = 8.9x10(-9)). A third locus, near LYPLAL1, was associated with WHR in women only (P = 2.6x10(-8)). The variants near TFAP2B appear to influence central adiposity through an effect on overall obesity/fat-mass, whereas LYPLAL1 displays a strong female-only association with fat distribution. By focusing on anthropometric measures of central obesity and fat distribution, we have identified three loci implicated in the regulation of human adiposity.

  • Variants in MTNR1B influence fasting glucose levels
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Nature Genetics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1546-1718 .- 1061-4036. ; 41:1, s. 77-81
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To identify previously unknown genetic loci associated with fasting glucose concentrations, we examined the leading association signals in ten genome-wide association scans involving a total of 36,610 individuals of European descent. Variants in the gene encoding melatonin receptor 1B (MTNR1B) were consistently associated with fasting glucose across all ten studies. The strongest signal was observed at rs10830963, where each G allele (frequency 0.30 in HapMap CEU) was associated with an increase of 0.07 (95% CI = 0.06-0.08) mmol/l in fasting glucose levels (P = 3.2 x 10(-50)) and reduced beta-cell function as measured by homeostasis model assessment (HOMA-B, P = 1.1 x 10(-15)). The same allele was associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes (odds ratio = 1.09 (1.05-1.12), per G allele P = 3.3 x 10(-7)) in a meta-analysis of 13 case-control studies totaling 18,236 cases and 64,453 controls. Our analyses also confirm previous associations of fasting glucose with variants at the G6PC2 (rs560887, P = 1.1 x 10(-57)) and GCK (rs4607517, P = 1.0 x 10(-25)) loci.

  • Effects of substrate temperature on Bi0.8La0.2FeO3 thin films prepared by pulsed laser deposition
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Thin Solid Films. - : Elsevier. - 0040-6090 .- 1879-2731. ; 515:13, s. 5366-5373
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Bi0.8La0.2FeO3 thin films on Pt/TiO2/SiO2/Si substrates at various substrate temperatures from 500 degrees C to 750 degrees C are prepared by pulsed laser deposition, and their microstructures and ferroelectric/magnetic properties are carefully investigated using various techniques. It is observed that the crystallographic orientation and Fe-ion valence state depend significantly on the substrate temperature, which consequently influences considerably on the ferroelectric and magnetic properties of the thin films. A considerable improvement of the ferroelectric and magnetic properties of the thin films can be achieved by optimizing the substrate temperature for deposition. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. • Preparation and photoabsorption characterization of BiFeO3 nanowires
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : American Institute of Physics (AIP). - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 89:10, s. 102506-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Perovskite-type polycrystalline BiFeO3 (BFO) nanowires (similar to 50 nm in diameter and similar to 5 mu m in length) were synthesized using the anodized alumina template technique. An energy band gap of similar to 2.5 eV was determined from the UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectrum, and its photocatalytic ability to produce O-2 was revealed under UV irradiation. Weak ferromagnetism at room temperature and superparamagnetism at low temperature were observed for the BFO nanowires, different from the antiferromagnetic order in bulk BFO, reflecting the significant size effects on the magnetic ordering of BFO. • Effect of Pr doping on ferroelectric behaviors of Pb(Zr0.65Ti0.35)O-3
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Modern Physics B. - : WORLD SCIENTIFIC PUBL CO PTE LTD. - 0217-9792. ; 22:13, s. 2070-2081
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Pr-doped Pb(Zr0.65Ti0.35)O-3 (Pb1-xPr (Zr0.65Ti0.35)(1-x)/O-4(3), PPZT) ceramic samples are prepared using conventional solid-state sintering method, and their structural, dielectric, ferroelectric, and piezoelectric properties are investigated, focusing on the effects of Pr-doping. Upon increasing Pr doping level x, a transition of the crystallographic structure from rhombohedral symmetry to tetrahedral and finally to pseudocubic symmetry is observed at x similar to 0.08. The detailed dielectric measurements present a clear indication of relaxor-like behaviors at x = 0.08, while the samples at x less than 0.08 offer slightly improved ferroelectric properties compared with pure Pb(Zr0.65Ti0.35)O-3. In spite of the dielectric relaxor behaviors induced by Pr-doping, both the ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties of PPZT are degraded at x = 0.08. The physics underlying the Pr-doping induced relaxor behaviors is then discussed.

  • Effect of carbon dioxide on sodium chloride-induced atmospheric corrosion of copper
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Electrochemical Society. - : The Electrochemical Society. - 0013-4651 .- 1945-7111. ; 152:12, s. B502-B511
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The effect of carbon dioxide (CO2) on sodium chloride (NaCl) induced atmospheric corrosion of copper was studied in laboratory exposures using microgravimetry, ion chromatography, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy with X-ray microanalysis. With lower amount of NaCl particles on the copper surface (< 15 mu g/cm(2)), the corrosion rate was higher with < 1 ppm CO2 than with 350 ppm CO2, and for higher amount of NaCl (> 15 mu g/cm(2)), the corrosion was higher with 350 ppm CO2. With lower amount of NaCl and low CO2 concentration, a secondary spreading of electrolyte occurred from the droplets that formed at the particle clusters. This led to a larger effective cathodic area and a higher corrosion rate. However, at higher surface concentration of NaCl a spatial interaction effect between the local corrosion sites counteracted the increase in the corrosion rate due to overlap of the cathodic areas from the particles. Another factor, which influenced the corrosion process, was the effect of CO2 on the pH of the surface electrolyte. Higher pH (< 1 ppm CO2 concentration) increased the formation of CuO, which improved the corrosion resistance of the corrosion product layer but hindered the formation of insoluble CuCl, whereby more soluble chloride ions were available for triggering localized corrosion and accelerating the initial atmospheric corrosion of copper. Hence, the overall influence of CO2 and NaCl depends on at least three identified mechanisms.
